Chapter 2: Nar's Experience

In preparation for the final battle, they equip themselves with some weapons and then summon Grendel, who arrives and attacks them. During the battle, when Grendel is destabilized by a sonic grenade, Knull's avatar engages in a one-on-one duel with Venom, and he strips Edward Brock of both symbiotes, but Edward Brock detonates the entire munitions, and the explosion affects Knull's real body.

Shocked and enraged, Knull prepared to strike, but before he could, the Tyrannosaurus restrained him and dragged him into the fire, telling Venom to close the door. Knull's avatar then perished along with the Tyrannosaurus, his connection to the Grendel symbiote completely severed, while his true body remained sealed in the center of the planet Klyntar.

However, months after the battle, a cult led by Scorn obtained the Grendel symbiote and the body of Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, intending to turn him into an incarnation of Knull.

When a sample of the Grendel symbiote bonded with Cletus, it took the form of Carnage, and Knull engaged in a mental exchange with Cletus, ultimately resisting Knull's control. Cletus, wanting to communicate with Knull again, decided to collect the imprints of various symbiotes left in their hosts, allowing the Grendel symbiote to reconnect with the mind of Klyntar, thereby helping Knull gain freedom. These symbiote remnants are called "Codex", which are found in the spine of every host.

During the Absolute Carnage incident, Bruce Banner theorized that Gnull might be an aspect of One Below All, or a being controlled in some way by the OBA. After Cletus became Dark Carnage, he called himself an Apostle and began to build a legion of red symbiotes.

As Carnage continued to collect backup samples and his connection with Klyntar grew stronger, Gnu began to slowly awaken and influence the symbiotes that remained on Earth, namely Riot, Agony, Phage, Lasher, and Scream.

In order to fight Dark Carnage, Eddie reluctantly allied with Spider-Man and contacted Reed Richards from Earth-1610 to have him build a backup sample extraction machine in Rex Strickland's old warehouse to stop Dark Carnage's actions by destroying the backup samples.

Spider-Man and Venom set out to find the various heroes, anti-heroes, and villains who had bonded with the symbiote, but were attacked by Dark Carnage.

As the machine extracted backup samples of heroes and villains, Dark Carnage infiltrated the warehouse disguised as Eddie and summoned his army to attack. When Eddie refused to fight Dark Carnage, the Venom symbiote allied itself with Bruce Banner, leaving Eddie and Spider-Man to face the symbiote army.

Miles Morales was also infected with Dark Carnage's symbiote. He learned that Dark Carnage wanted to take the Venom symbiote to become strong enough, and Dark Carnage succeeded. In addition, he learned that the extraction machine did not remove the backup sample, but kept it. In order to stop Dark Carnage, Eddie released the backup sample in the machine and combined it with it.

Cletus threatened Eddie with the threat of killing his son Dylan and absorbing the symbiote in him, or watching him take Dylan's backup sample, which would release Knull anyway. Eddie decided to save his son, killing Dark Carnage, taking back the Venom symbiote and absorbing the Grendel symbiote.

As Cletus had predicted, due to the Grendel symbiote's connection to the mind of the planet Klyntar, Knull was awakened, taking back control of the Klyntar symbiotes and transforming them into an army of symbiote dragons.

During his journey he met Wraith, Zak-Del, who was infected by Exolon and was confused by how the Exolon had changed his life. Gnar revealed the true origin of the Exolon as an imperfect symbiote and ripped it from Wraith, transforming it into a replacement for the all-black Deathblade.

After leaving Zak-Del, he resumed his conquest of the universe, but unknowingly the God of Darkness was being hunted by an unknown God of Light - his own opposite. After being freed, Gnar had a telepathic communication with Eddie's son Dylan, appeared in his nightmares, and tried to convert him to his side.

Dylan eventually regained his sanity and decided to help his father fight against Knull. Although he failed in the main universe, in the parallel universe Earth-TRN811, another Dylan succumbed to that universe's Knull, and adopted the alias "Codex", planning to turn Earth into a symbiote paradise ruled by the Dark Lord.

Arriving on Earth, Gnar and his legion breeze through the minefields, his dragons raining down on the planet, quickly overwhelm Earth's superheroes, Gnar emerges from the body of an infected Celestial and announces his intention to destroy Earth, and that he can have the planet swiftly and painlessly wiped out if a human named Brock is brought to him.

Gnar is attacked by the Sentinel, who attempts to launch him into orbit and tear him in half, but Gnar breaks free and changes their positions. Gnar tears the Sentinel apart, taking control of the dark entity "Void" that had been inside the Sentinel. Possibly due to its affinity with the Dark God, the Void is absorbed by Gnar.

Gnar uses symbiotes to cover the Earth Gnar is tired of fighting and uses symbiotes to control the heroes, surrounding the Earth with a large group of symbiotes. Eddie steps up and offers to serve Gnar if the Earth is not harmed, but Gnar refuses because the Brock he is interested in is actually Dylan Brock.

He ripped the Venom symbiote off of Eddie before throwing him off the top of the Empire State Building, satisfied that once Eddie was injured and down, his consciousness would be trapped as a codex within the Hive Mind, and would no longer be a hindrance to his plans.

Knull built a spire atop the Empire State Building and began directing his invasion on multiple fronts by remote-piloting symbiotes, implanting symbiotes, and manifesting avatars. Knull attempted to claim the Ebony Sword, the Fuxi Sword, and Ghost Spider-Gwen's artificial symbiote for himself.
