Traveling through the Tang Dynasty: The Concubine Goes to War

Chapter 20 Yunxi Returns to the Tang Dynasty

Last time, we talked about Yunxi and Xiaowan leaving the Turks with a lingering feeling and embarking on the journey back to the Tang Dynasty. They were both excited and heavy-hearted, as they were carrying the expectations of the Turkic people.

During the long journey, Yunxi and Xiaowan witnessed magnificent scenery. The mountains and rivers were majestic, the grasslands were vast, and everything seemed so peaceful and tranquil under the blue sky and white clouds. However, their minds were not on the beautiful scenery, but on the distant Tang Dynasty.

When they finally arrived at the border of the Tang Dynasty, a familiar feeling came over them. The city of the Tang Dynasty towered into the sky, and the bustling streets were full of life. People were busy coming and going, and a prosperous scene unfolded before their eyes.

Yunxi and Xiaowan felt the growing prosperity of the Tang Dynasty, which strengthened their determination to work for peace. They believed that only through peaceful exchanges and cooperation could the Turks and the Tang Dynasty develop together and the people live a stable and happy life.

With the Turkic people's wish for peace, Yunxi and Xiaowan returned to the territory of the Tang Dynasty.

Yunxi stood at the border of the Tang Dynasty, looking at the Turks in the distance. In front of her was a magnificent view. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the towering city walls stretched to the horizon, like an indestructible barrier. Outside the city walls was a vast grassland, with grass swaying in the wind, like a green ocean.

Looking far away, she could see the Turkic tents and grazing sheep. A gust of wind blew, bringing the fresh air of the grassland and the life of the Turkic people. Yunxi couldn't help but feel fortunate for her decision to go on a diplomatic mission to the Turkic people, because this experience allowed her to see different cultures and scenery.

She recalled her exchanges and friendships with the Turkic people during her time in Turkic. She was deeply impressed by their hospitality, bravery and tenacity. She also witnessed the peaceful coexistence between the Tang Dynasty and the Turks, and how precious and rare this peace was.

Standing at the border, Yunxi felt a sense of mission. She knew that as an envoy of the Tang Dynasty, she was responsible for maintaining peace and promoting exchanges. She wanted to bring back everything she saw in the Turks.

A magnificent scene emerged before Yunxi's eyes: the ancient city walls towered into the clouds, flags fluttered, and the breath of history permeated the wind and sand.

She finally met Han Xuan, the man who had been through thick and thin with her. Han Xuan was tall and resolute, and his eyes were calm and firm. Their eyes met in the air, and it seemed as if time had stopped.

They stared at each other, their eyes showing deep emotion. Time has not changed the tacit understanding between them, and the emotions in their hearts surged like a tide.

Han Xuan walked forward and gently held Yunxi's hand, giving her endless warmth and strength. Yunxi also held his hand tightly in return, as if to tell him that their love and concern had never disappeared.

At this moment, they didn't need words, each other's existence was the best proof. The wind at the border whistled in their ears, but it couldn't cover up their excitement. Yunxi and Hanxuan smiled at each other, and their smiles contained too many thoughts and emotions. They knew that this reunion was a miracle and also a fate.

The years that Yunxi and Hanxuan have spent together have become more precious at this moment. They will continue to move forward hand in hand to face the challenges and unknowns of the future. The land of the border has witnessed their love and will also witness their new journey.

However, Yunxi's eyes fell on Zhaxi who was not far away, and she felt an indescribable sadness in her heart. Zhaxi's belly was already very big, which made her figure even more bloated. Yunxi looked at her, and the memories of the past came to her mind, forming a sharp contrast with the current reality.

Tashi's face revealed a sense of fatigue and helplessness, and her eyes seemed to have lost their former luster.

Yunxi's mood was heavy and complicated. She felt heartache and loss. Perhaps it was because of the passage of time or the changes in life. She looked at Zhaxi silently, tears flashing in her eyes and her heart filled with unrelieved sadness.

Yunxi took a deep breath and tried to free herself from the sadness. She knew that life had to move on and she had to face reality, even though she had endless melancholy in her heart.

Finally, Yunxi looked at Han Xuan and said, "I have to go back to Beijing to report to the emperor." Then she turned around and rode away on her horse, burying the sadness deep in her heart. She understood that there would always be many partings and regrets on the road of life, but this is also part of growth and life experience. She will carry this memory and continue to move forward, looking for her own happiness and meaning.

Yunxi and Xiaowan rode on their horses, looking dashing. Yunxi carried important intelligence and set off on the journey back to Beijing. She was dusty along the way, but her eyes were firm and her heart was full of responsibility for the country.

After arriving in the capital, Yunxi went straight to the palace. Her steps were steady and powerful, showing her determination and confidence. After entering the palace, she met the emperor, who was very pleased and expressed great surprise at Yunxi's return.

The emperor bestowed upon Yunxi the title of First-Rank Imperial Lady in recognition of her outstanding performance in Turkic affairs. Yunxi thanked him, her posture straight and her expression solemn as she accepted this noble title.

After receiving the reward, Yunxi reported the situation of the Turks to the emperor in detail. She spoke sincerely and clearly, describing the dynamics and situation of the Turks one by one. The emperor listened attentively and nodded his approval from time to time.

After Yunxi finished her report, the emperor slowly said, "Yunxi, I already know about Han Xuan and Zhaxi. Zhaxi is a princess of Goryeo, and since she is pregnant with Han Xuan's child, I will make it happen and let Han Xuan marry Zhaxi as the second wife of the general's mansion. This will also deepen the friendly ties between Goryeo and Han Xuan. You won't blame me, will you?"

Yunxi knelt on the ground, looking at the emperor with a slightly sad look in her eyes. Her voice was clear and firm: "Your Majesty, I ask you to grant me a mansion. After thinking for a long time, I decided to divorce Han Xuan."

The emperor was slightly surprised, and a strange emotion flashed in his eyes as he looked at Yunxi in front of him. After a moment of silence, he slowly said, "Yunxi, this matter is of great importance. Have you thought it through?"

Yunxi raised her head, a determined light flashing in her eyes: "I have made up my mind. The relationship between Han Xuan and me has broken down and can no longer continue. Granting you the mansion is an opportunity for me to start over."

The emperor stared at Yunxi, a special feeling welling up in his heart. He nodded and said, "Since you have decided so, I will grant you a mansion. I hope you can find your own happiness in the new environment. But the new mansion will take time to build, and it will not be completed for a while. During this time, will you return to the general's mansion or stay in the palace temporarily?" "I will go see the prince first and then decide." Yunxi said hesitantly.

Yunxi thanked the emperor and left. The emperor looked at her leaving and fell into a long contemplation. Her steps were firm and resolute, as if she was saying goodbye to everything in the past. Perhaps she knew that divorce was a painful choice, but it was also the only way for her to pursue freedom and happiness. After leaving the palace, she went straight to the prince's bedroom.

Yunxi stepped into the East Palace and saw the prince from afar. The prince, who was about six years old, was still so young, with an innocent smile on his pink cheeks, like a flower blooming in spring. His eyes were like bright stars, sparkling with curiosity and intelligence.

He wore a gorgeous yellow robe, but he ran and played in the palace as if it was his playground. His laughter was clear and melodious, as if it could dispel all sorrows and worries. The eunuchs and palace maids all played with the prince.

When he looked at Yunxi, his clear eyes would melt her heart. "I've seen you before. You were in Lady Lian's palace, right?" The prince's childish voice rang out. His questions were always so innocent and cute that people couldn't help but want to answer all his questions. Yunxi looked at the cute prince and thought about the years since she left the palace. She couldn't help but have tears in her eyes.

When Yunxi leaned over to take a closer look at the prince, the prince stretched out his delicate little hands to gently wipe away Yunxi's tears. At this tender age, the prince showed incomparable innocence and kindness. He would not hesitate to help those in need, and use his warm little hands to comfort and care. "Why are you crying? Come and play with us." The prince said cutely.

Looking at him, Yunxi couldn't help but sigh that he was so cute, as if he was a precious gift from God to the world.

His existence allowed Yunxi to see hope for the future, and also filled the entire palace with vitality.

Yunxi was touched by the prince's action. She held the prince's hand and said with a smile, "Thank you, Your Highness. I just feel a little touched." The prince took Yunxi to play with him. They laughed and chased butterflies, enjoying the happiness of the moment. Time passed quickly and night fell. Yunxi said goodbye to the prince and stepped out of the East Palace.

She looked up at the starry sky, her heart filled with emotion. In this palace, she had experienced too many separations, joys and sorrows, but the prince's innocence and kindness gave her a little comfort. She decided to let go of the pain of the past and cherish the beauty of the present.

Yunxi is heading towards a new chapter in her life, and the mansion will become the starting point for her to start anew. She is looking forward to the future and believes that happiness will come again.

After leaving the East Palace, Yunxi returned to the General's Mansion. She strolled in the familiar courtyard, feeling the tranquility of the night. The moonlight sprinkled on the pond, reflecting her lonely figure. Yunxi sat quietly by the pond, thinking about her future. She knew that life after the divorce would face many challenges, but she also believed that she could face them with strength.

Soon, the emperor ordered Han Xuan to take Tashi back to Beijing. He also told Han Xuan that Yunxi wanted to divorce him and asked him to marry Tashi. After receiving the imperial edict, Han Xuan felt mixed emotions. He understood that this was the emperor's will and he could not disobey it. He looked at Tashi beside him and felt conflicted.

At the same time, Yunxi packed her luggage in the general's mansion, preparing to take Xiaowan away from this former home. She was in an unusually calm mood, as if she had already let everything go.

A few days later, Han Xuan and Zhaxi returned to the capital. The wedding was held as scheduled, and the whole capital was filled with a festive atmosphere. Zhaxi's family, the King of Goryeo and Zhaxi's mother, also came. They originally did not approve of Zhaxi marrying Han Xuan. However, when they learned that Yunxi had divorced Han Xuan and Zhaxi had been following Han Xuan and was pregnant, they had no choice but to accept it. To them, their daughter was just a princess who married into the Tang Dynasty. In this grand wedding, at the wedding scene, Han Xuan's expression looked particularly serious, and there was no joy in his eyes. The corners of his mouth were always tightly pursed, without even a hint of a smile. It seemed that the joy of the wedding had nothing to do with him, and he was just a bystander.

When the bride walked into the hall, the guests all blessed the couple, but Han Xuan's face remained expressionless. His eyes wandered, as if he was thinking about something else or looking for someone. Throughout the wedding, Han Xuan's body language also showed his indifference. His shoulders drooped slightly, and his hands moved mechanically as the ceremony progressed. This was in stark contrast to the guests around him who were all smiling.

Yunxi moved into the mansion given by the emperor and bid farewell to the past completely.

Yunxi stood silently in front of the window, staring into the distance. An indescribable pain surged in her heart, as if a heavy burden was pressing on her, making it almost impossible for her to breathe.

She learned about Han Xuan's wedding, and that the man she once had a deep affection for had now entered a new stage of life. Her eyes revealed endless sadness and loss, and tears rolled in her eyes, but she stubbornly refused to let them fall.

Yunxi recalled every moment she had spent with Han Xuan. Those wonderful times played in her mind like a movie. She missed the happy moments they had in the imperial kitchen, the concerted efforts they had on the battlefield, and the dreams and joys they had shared in the general's mansion. But now, all of this had become a thing of the past.

The wedding scene emerged in her imagination. Han Xuan was wearing a handsome suit and smiling to welcome his bride. But she could only silently bless him from a faraway place. She felt a cold wind coming, blowing through her body and chilling her heart.

Yunxi took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She knew that the journey of life was always full of variables and twists and turns, and some things could not be changed. Although she was heartbroken, she also understood that she had to learn to accept and let go. She silently wished Han Xuan happiness and hoped that he would find his true home in his new journey of life.

Finally, Yunxi turned away from the window, burying the sadness deep in her heart. She believed that time would slowly heal all the pain, and she would find her own happiness and future.

As the days passed, Yunxi gradually adapted to her new life. She devoted her energy to the management of the mansion and her own cultivation, trying to forget the pain of the past. However, the gears of fate seemed to start turning again.

One day, Yunxi received a mysterious letter. The handwriting in the letter was familiar to her. The letter mentioned an important matter that needed her assistance. Yunxi was curious and decided to go to the agreed place to find out. There, she met an expected person - Han Xuan. Han Xuan's eyes revealed a trace of anxiety and confusion. He explained the whole story to Yunxi. It turned out that a huge conspiracy had emerged in the court, endangering the security of the country. He needed Yunxi's wisdom and ability to solve this crisis together.

Yunxi hesitated for a while, and finally decided to put aside personal grudges and devote himself to the national cause. They began to secretly investigate, collect evidence, and start a thrilling contest with evil forces. In this process, Yunxi and Han Xuan re-established tacit understanding and trust. They found that each other's existence was so important that they could support and rely on each other.

As clues gradually surfaced, Yunxi and Han Xuan were getting closer and closer to the truth. They were not afraid of hardships and were determined to pursue justice. In a critical operation, Yunxi was in danger. Han Xuan rushed forward without hesitation to protect her. At that moment, Yunxi felt Han Xuan's deep affection for her. In the end, they successfully exposed the conspiracy and saved the country. Yunxi and Han Xuan's names once again became heroes in people's mouths, and their stories spread. After this storm, Yunxi and Han Xuan also re-examined their feelings for each other.

They realized that true love can stand the test of time. Despite all the ups and downs, their hearts are still closely connected. Perhaps it is fate that allows them to realize the importance of each other again in the turbulent times.

However, their love was separated by Tashi, the new general's wife...
