Fan Shengmei followed the police into the police station. The room was filled with a faint smell of disinfectant, and the dim light cast an ambiguous shadow. She sat on an old chair, feeling a little anxious. The police began to ask questions expressionlessly, in a steady and serious voice: "Please recall the situation at that time and describe in detail what you saw."

Fan Shengmei closed her eyes and tried to recall the scene. She imagined the shabby little apartment and the cold face of Director Bai. Fan Shengmei said softly, "His room was really shabby, with almost nothing valuable, just some ordinary daily necessities." She paused and added, "There were some cups, decorations, quilts and a few simple clothes."
