Devil's Army
Chapter 960 Recovering Huangdianzhuang Town
The 4th Brigade entered Shanhaiguan and rebuilt Shanhaiguan, while the 7th Brigade continued to attack the Japanese reinforcements in Qinhuangdao.
The Japanese 9th Independent Mixed Brigade was subjected to continuous bombardment by the First Army's Air Force and artillery. It was unable to withstand the fierce attack of the Seventh Brigade and continued to retreat.
The commander of the 9st Regiment of the th Brigade led a regiment of soldiers in a triumphant march, chasing after the soldiers of the th Independent Mixed Brigade of the Japanese Army all the way.
The 15st Regiment of the th Brigade pursued the enemy all the way to Sandaguan, but was blocked by the th Independent Mixed Brigade of the Japanese Army, which had already built fortifications.
Sandaoguan is located 8 kilometers northeast of Shanhaiguan City and is an important part of Jiaoshan Great Wall.
From top to bottom, Sandaoguan has three gates built according to the mountain terrain, namely "Upper Pass", "Middle Pass" and "Lower Pass". It is built between valleys, with steep peaks on both sides and only a narrow passage in the middle, which can be described as "one man guarding the pass, ten thousand men cannot open it".
The 9th Independent Mixed Brigade of the Japanese Army reinforced the Japanese troops in Shanhaiguan. When a fierce battle broke out with the Devil Forces at Jiaoshan, a part of the 15th Independent Mixed Brigade of the Japanese Army built defensive fortifications at Sandaguan in advance.
The Japanese Army's 15th Independent Mixed Brigade also had an artillery position on the mountain peak, which could overlook and suppress the First Army soldiers on the trail. If they attacked by force, the casualties would surely be heavy.
When the 9st Regiment of the th Brigade was pursuing the defeated soldiers of the th Independent Mixed Division of the Japanese Army and reached the path in front of Sandaguan, they were bombarded by Japanese artillery.
In order to reduce unnecessary casualties, the commander of the 7th Brigade, Honglang, decisively ordered to stop the pursuit and build fortifications in the dangerous terrain in front of Sandaoguan. He also sent a regiment to station here to confront the Japanese troops at Sandaoguan across the three passes.
Another large force marched along another road towards Changli County, Qinhuangdao, and continued to open up the passage between the two bases.
When the troops arrived near Huangdianzhuang Town, it was already dark. The commander of the Seventh Brigade ordered the troops to stop advancing and temporarily stay in the wild.
Leng Feng was deeply surprised when he received telegrams from the commanders of the Fourth and Seventh Brigades.
In 1933, the Japanese army, with air force support, fought for two days before occupying Shanhaiguan.
Now the Japanese army has been deeply rooted in Shanhaiguan for six years. The Japanese army defending Shanhaiguan is completely different from the Northeast Army that hastily responded to the battle at that time.
Leng Feng made multiple preparations to capture Shanhaiguan. He specially arranged the veteran brigades that had fought for many years: the 4th Brigade and the 7th Brigade to attack Shanhaiguan and block the reinforcements from Qinhuangdao.
A large number of troops were sent to infiltrate Shanhaiguan in advance, and the Battle of Shanhaiguan was launched at the critical point when the large force of the Japanese Kwantung Army attacked the Nomonhan Soviet-Mongolian Allied Forces.
The original plan was to capture Shanhaiguan in about a week, but unexpectedly it was captured in just two days.
Once Shanhaiguan was taken, the subsequent battle to open up the Tangshan base would not be so dangerous.
Leng Feng sent a telegram to Huilang, informing him of the progress of the Battle of Shanhaiguan and asking him to pay attention to the movements of the Japanese troops in Tangshan.
Gray Wolf was also surprised when he received Leng Feng's telegram. He had passed Shanhaiguan the year before last and knew that the city had high walls and thick terrain, and the Japanese army had many artillery pieces, making it easy to defend but difficult to attack. He had never expected that it would be recaptured in two days.
He immediately called the commander of the Third Brigade and asked him to notify the defenders of Luan County to pay attention to the movements of the Japanese troops nearby and prepare to meet up with the troops in the old base.
The strategic location of Huangdianzhuang Town is not very important, with only two city gates connecting it to Shanhaiguan and Changli County.
The next morning, the commander of the Seventh Brigade arranged for the Second Battalion of the Second Regiment to ambush on both sides of the path leading to Changli County. The First Battalion of the Second Regiment began to attack Huangdianzhuang Town.
A reinforced Japanese squad and more than one hundred puppet troops were stationed in Huangdianzhuang Town.
They had received the news that Shanhaiguan had fallen and had stepped up their vigilance.
When the first battalion began to attack Huangdianzhuang Town, most of the Japanese and puppet troops in the town went up to the city wall to block them.
The Japanese squad's only two mortars continued to bombard the first battalion.
Under the guidance of the golden eagle, the mortar soldiers of the first battalion quickly locked onto the Japanese mortar positions.
Two waves of mortar shells came, and all the Japanese mortar soldiers in the city were killed. The two mortars were also blown into pieces.
After resolving the threat of the Japanese artillery, the mortars of the first battalion began to bombard the Japanese machine gun fire points on the wall of Huangdianzhuang Town. Under the cover of the mortars, the soldiers of the first battalion continued to approach the gate of Huangdianzhuang Town.
Under the suppression of the First Army's mortars, the Japanese and puppet troops on the city wall of Huangdianzhuang Town found it difficult to organize a dense firepower network to stop the attack of the First Battalion's soldiers.
Amid a series of "boom" explosions, the city gate of Huangdianzhuang Town collapsed.
Soldiers from the first battalion rushed into the town one after another and continued shooting at the Japanese and puppet troops on the city wall.
The Japanese and puppet troops in Huangdianzhuang Town could not resist and began to retreat to Changli County through the north gate.
The Japanese squad leader led the remaining Japanese and puppet troops out of Huangdianzhuang Town and retreated to Changli County at full speed. He secretly felt lucky: Fortunately, the devil troops did not surround the north gate of Huangdianzhuang Town, otherwise they would have been blocked in the town.
Who knew what happened next would slap him hard in the face.
