Devil's Army
Chapter 959 Recapture of Shanhaiguan
As soon as the Japanese bombers saw the First Army's pointed fighters, they immediately bypassed them.
The Japanese Type 95 fighters were no match for the First Army's Hua Xia II fighters, and could not catch up with the H-1 bombers, so they could only chase the First Army's Vultur bombers.
Although the First Army's Hua Xia II fighters tried their best to protect the Voltaire bombers, they were outnumbered and were entangled and besieged by the Japanese fighters.
After a fight in the air, five Huaxia II fighters of the First Army shot down and damaged ten Japanese fighters.
The two remaining Japanese fighter planes chased the Japanese bomber that hurriedly dropped its bombs and fled, and flew towards Qinhuangdao in a hurry.
The First Army also paid the price of having two Hua Xia II fighters damaged and two Voltir bombers shot down, but temporarily gained air superiority over Shanhaiguan.
At this time, reinforcements from part of the Qinhuangdao Japanese Army's 9th Independent Mixed Brigade and part of the 15th Independent Mixed Brigade were heading towards the west gate of Shanhaiguan to reinforce Shanhaiguan.
When the Japanese Army's 9th Independent Mixed Brigade arrived at Jiaoshan, it was blocked by the th Brigade of the st Army.
The situation in Shanhaiguan was critical. Brigade Commander Yan Yongwang ordered the tanks to open the way, eager to break through the narrow mountain road in Jiaoshan.
When the tanks reached a small mountain road at a corner of Jiaoshan, they were attacked by the rocket soldiers of the 7th Brigade. The four tanks that served as the vanguard were all destroyed, and the small road was completely blocked.
Before the Japanese 9th Independent Mixed Division could push away the destroyed tanks, the artillery deployed by the 9th Brigade on the mountain began to bombard the th Division's infantry on the path.
The Japanese 9th Independent Mixed Division, which had nowhere to hide, suffered heavy casualties.
Division Commander Iwanaga ordered the artillery of the 9th Division to suppress the artillery bombardment of the st Army.
The artillery of both sides was still bombarding each other. The First Army, which had already gained air superiority, flew two H-9 bombers towards the Japanese Independent Mixed th Division and began to fly low and continuously strafing and bombing their infantry and artillery positions.
The Japanese infantry in Shanhaiguan City were also subjected to low-altitude bombing and strafing by the First Army's bombers, suffering heavy casualties.
A large number of puppet soldiers and police were sent to the Fourth Fort and the East Gate of Shanhaiguan to participate in the attack on the devil troops. However, under the three-dimensional bombing of the First Army Air Force and artillery, they suffered heavy casualties.
With the strong support of the First Army Air Force, the First and Second Companies of the First Battalion withstood the fierce attacks of the Japanese, puppet troops and puppet police in Dongguan Jiaochang and Dongluocheng.
The Japanese troops in the Fourth Battery had no reinforcements and were chased and attacked fiercely by Captain Tian and the special forces of the Seventh Squadron, losing a series of positions on the periphery. They retreated to the narrow area of the Fourth Battery Command and continued to resist stubbornly.
Commander Leng demanded that all four artillery batteries be captured intact, otherwise the enemy's headquarters would be blown to pieces with artillery, and all problems would be solved.
The Japanese command post was built very solidly, and the Japanese inside used windows and doors to continuously block the attack of the Seventh Squadron.
Captain Tian launched two waves of attacks, both of which were repelled by the Japanese, and several special forces members lost their lives.
The 40 rockets had been used up, and the grenades were out of reach. Captain Tian was at a loss as to what to do with this small group of devils.
There was no other way to fight him off, so Captain Tian ordered a small team of soldiers to surround the Japanese headquarters, neither attacking nor retreating.
The other two teams operated the artillery on the four artillery batteries and launched fierce bombardments at the Japanese troops, puppet troops, and puppet police in Dongguan Jiaochang and Dongluocheng respectively.
The Japanese troops, puppet troops and puppet police in Dongguanjiaochang and Dongluocheng were constantly bombarded by the First Army's aircraft and artillery. Now they were also subjected to fierce bombardment by their own artillery. The artillery suffered heavy casualties and were already showing signs of defeat. They began to move closer to the Kwantung Governor-General's Office.
In the evening, more than 500 Japanese troops, puppet troops, and puppet police from Dongguanjiaochang and Dongluocheng, together with commanders including a major from the Kwantung Governor-General's Office, fled out of Shanhaiguan.
A small group of Japanese soldiers at the Fourth Battery Headquarters became abandoned, guarding the Fourth Battery Headquarters alone.
The next morning, the fourth brigade commander and the fourth deputy brigade commander rode in trucks and led the soldiers into Shanhaiguan in orderly steps.
After living in fear all day yesterday, the residents of Shanhaiguan voluntarily came to the street entrance today to welcome the First Anti-Japanese Army to Shanhaiguan.
After being occupied by the Japanese invaders for six years, Shanhaiguan returned to the hands of the Chinese people.
The soldiers of the Fourth Brigade cleared and rebuilt the garbage and houses damaged by the bombing in Shanhaiguan while searching for the puppet soldiers and police who had no time to escape.
Before the government was formed, Shanhaiguan was temporarily under the military control of the 4th Brigade.
At four o'clock in the morning of the next day, the more than 40 Japanese soldiers defending the headquarters of the Fourth Battery had run out of ammunition and food, and finally made a desperate attempt to break out.
The sound of gunfire, which had ceased for nearly a day, rang out again in Shanhaiguan.
The lieutenant at the command center initially wanted to quietly evacuate the Fourth Battery while everyone was asleep in the middle of the night, but as soon as his soldiers walked out of the command center, they were killed by a small group of soldiers from the Seventh Squadron who had been on alert.
The lieutenant immediately changed the sneak attack to a strong attack in an attempt to break away from the ambush of a small team.
The soldiers from the second and third squads of the seventh squadron heard the gunshots and quickly surrounded them.
In less than half an hour, the four artillery batteries returned to silence. Shanhaiguan was completely recaptured by the First Anti-Japanese Army.
