As a main force regiment of the Sichuan Army entered Tonghua County, the other two city gates of Tonghua County were successively occupied by the Sichuan Army, and the Japanese army retreated to some streets and houses in the city to put up a stubborn resistance.

Upon learning that the civilians in the houses occupied by the Japanese army had basically evacuated, Commander Wang ordered the rocket troops to bombard the houses where the Japanese army was hiding and stubbornly resisting.

In an attempt to evade air raids, the Japanese launched a fierce attack on the positions of the 2nd Border Defense Brigade and the Training Brigade, trying to blend in with them. However, they were met with fierce resistance from the 2nd Border Defense Brigade and the Training Brigade.

As night fell, the 728th and 727th Regiments of the Sichuan Army did not stop their attack, but continued to attack the Japanese troops entrenched behind the rubble.

At daybreak, soldiers from the 364th Brigade of the Sichuan Army successfully joined forces with the 2nd Border Defense Brigade and the Training Brigade in Tonghua County.

The main forces of Japanese and Korean puppet troops in Tonghua County were basically wiped out, and the battle entered the mopping-up phase.

Just as dawn broke, the artillery of the 364th Brigade of the Sichuan Army arrived in Tonghua County, belatedly.

Brigade Commander Wang deployed artillery positions at Beida Dingzi Mountain (core priority) and Yuhuang Mountain, north of Tonghua County.

Beida Dingzi Mountain is a key high point on the outskirts of Tonghua County. It has always been a military stronghold. Its high elevation and unobstructed view cover Tonghua County and the surrounding river valleys.

Furthermore, the mountain slope is moderate, allowing for the construction of simple roads for artillery transport, and there are natural ravines to conceal artillery positions, as well as the ability to construct bunkers based on the terrain.

Yuhuang Mountain (the core point near the county seat) is located on the south side of Tonghua County: it is adjacent to the surrounding area of ​​Tonghua County and has a wide view overlooking the county seat and the Hunjiang River.

The terrain transitions from hills to low mountains, providing adequate cover and allowing for quick connection to county transportation lines. It is also convenient for ammunition resupply and is suitable for deploying close-range support artillery to protect urban or suburban defenses.

In addition, the artillery of the 728th Regiment, which arrived in Tonghua County first, deployed its positions on the Changshabao South Mountain +571 Hill.

The 571 high point is at a moderate elevation, directly facing the main transportation route of Dalongzhaogou and Xia Siping, and its range can cover the surrounding plains and valleys (an important passage in western Tonghua County).

The mountain is low and mountainous with no steep slopes, which facilitates the deployment of artillery. It is also adjacent to Hill 915, which can provide fire support. Together with the artillery positions of the brigade headquarters located on Beidadingzi Mountain and Yuhuang Mountain, they form a mutually protective and supportive network.

The Japanese army was completely unaware of the artillery positions of the 364th Brigade of the Sichuan Army. After being repeatedly defeated by the Sichuan Army, they retreated to the Chuan Valley Pass in Guosong Town, Tonghua County, where they finally gained a foothold thanks to the pass's treacherous terrain.
