Devil's Army
Chapter 1654 Attacking Shoushan Fortress 1
The last time, the order that Brigadier General Li received was to wait for an opportunity to recapture Liaoyang City and Anshan City.
Now Brigadier General Li received an order to recapture Liaoyang and Anshan within three days.
So no matter how difficult it is to conquer Shoushan, we have to do it.
The battle was fought on logistics. Brigadier General Li first sent elite troops to cut off the Japanese army's retreat in Shoushan. He then built a defensive line between Shoushan and Anshan City to prevent the Japanese army from breaking through the line and reinforcing Shoushan.
This move was indeed effective, causing the Japanese troops in Shoushan Fortress to panic, and they sent two urgent telegrams to the Japanese troops in Anshan requesting reinforcements.
The first to rush to support were the Japanese Marines from Yingkou.
For the safety of Yingkou Port, the navy of Yingkou has been paying close attention to the battle situation in Shoushan Fortress in Liaoyang City.
As soon as he heard that Shoushan Fortress was in danger, he immediately ordered the Marines stationed in Anshan City to go and reinforce.
Although these black dogs don't get along well with the army, they are indeed fierce when fighting.
Under the cover of mortars, wave-like attacks were continuously launched against the positions of the 3rd Brigade.
This company of the vanguard of the Third Brigade stubbornly withstood wave after wave of attacks from the Japanese Black Dogs.
The battle lasted all day, and the Japanese army withstood the bombing of the Fengtian Air Force and the fierce resistance of the vanguard company of the 3rd Brigade, and managed to cripple the vanguard company of the 3rd Brigade.
At night, the battalion commander replaced the second company to defend the position and arranged for the third company to attack the black dog at night.
The deputy battalion commander suggested:
"The fighting during the day was fierce, resulting in heavy casualties. We don't know how many days we have to hold out. Should we put off the night attack for now?"
"We suffered heavy casualties, and the Black Dogs, as the attackers, suffered even greater casualties. Offense is the best defense. If the Third Company can succeed tonight, their offensive momentum will be greatly reduced tomorrow."
During the day, while the First Battalion was struggling to hold back the attack of the Japanese Marines in Yingkou, another unit of the Third Brigade also launched an attack on the Shoushan Fortress, but was met with crossfire from the pillboxes and bunkers of the Shoushan Fortress.
Although the Fengtian Air Force later carried out a fierce bombing on the bunkers and tunnels of the Shoushan Fortress, the Japanese army blocked the roads to Shoushan with the fierce firepower of the bunkers, and the attack of the Third Brigade made no progress.
The Third Brigade Commander focused his attack on blocking the logistics transport lines of Shoushan.
When the Battle of Shoushan broke out, the commander of the Third Brigade sent two other troops across Shoushan and into Anshan City.
Part of the Second Regiment set out from Liaoyang, heading west through Liuerbao Town, and moving southwest along the rural road on the south bank of Taizi River, passing Mujia Town and Tangmazhai Town, then turning southeast, passing through the northern part of Tai'an County, and crossing the suburban villages to reach the southwest of Anshan City.
This route relied on farmland and villages along the Taizi River and was relatively hidden, but the road was narrow and difficult to travel, making it difficult for the baggage train to pass through.
Part of the 3rd Regiment headed southeast from Liaoyang, passing through Lanjia Town and Xiadahe Township, using the mountain roads on the west side of Qianshan Mountains to bypass the eastern mountains of Shoushan, then southwest through Dagushan Town and Tanggangzi Town, and finally entered the southeastern part of Anshan City.
This route is mostly mountainous and hilly, suitable only for small groups of people to pass through secretly. It is also difficult for baggage trains to pass through.
The second and third regiment commanders each sent an advance battalion to explore the way.
The advance battalion lacked heavy weapons support and found it difficult to attack the well-defended town.
Fortunately, there were not many Japanese and puppet troops on this road. They attacked camps and captured strongholds along the way and recaptured many towns and villages.
