According to poems and literature, there were traces of human activities on the Ryukyu Islands very early. The Xu Fu mentioned in the poems was a famous liar in the Qin Dynasty. He claimed to be a Taoist alchemist and lied that he could make elixirs that would make people live longer or even immortal. He cheated the First Emperor of Qin of a lot of gold, silver and various materials. Later, he couldn't make effective elixirs and couldn't report to the emperor. In order to survive, he came up with a plan and tricked the First Emperor into building him many ships, as well as a guard team and 500 boys and girls, to go out to sea to find immortals. It is said that Xu Fu wandered around in the East China Sea for several months and finally arrived at the Ryukyu Islands.

Strictly speaking, Ryukyu at that time was not a real country, but a regional organization like a clan tribe, without a unified political power or national organizational form.

Lin Chong and Wu Song led more than 50 people and wanted to land on the island's port in the name of replenishing fresh water, but they were sternly rejected by the so-called tribal leader, who arrogantly blackmailed them for a large amount of gold and silver.

In the name of agreeing to give gold and silver, Lin Chong sent Wu Song and several others to the port with gold and silver to understand the situation. Then Lin Chong, Wu Song and the four Ruan brothers spent several more days leading thirty ships each to act separately, destroying all the armed forces scattered around the other small islands, and recruiting most of the soldiers who were willing to surrender and using them for their own purposes.

Lin Chong made a detailed investigation and made a specific analysis based on their evil deeds. Then he publicly executed the tribal leaders who were guilty of numerous crimes and a dozen of their cronies. He also promoted and selected a group of ordinary soldiers as the backbone of the army, established two Ryukyu native guard camps, and recruited a large number of mercenaries. After training like this for half a month, Lin Chong replenished all the ships with the corresponding provisions and supplies. He added about fifty local Ryukyu soldiers to each ship, and then left Ruan Xiaosi to lead the Ryukyu armed forces in the local area and continue to advance towards Kyushu Island of Japan in the east.
