Operation Red Book
Chapter 118 Discovery in Morris' Office
There was a drizzle outside the window, and the glass windows in Morris' office were hit by the rain, leaving a blurry mark.
Dorian walked around the house with his hands behind his back, his deerskin boots creaking against the polished wooden floor.
Joshua turned Morris's office upside down. The piles of stationery and documents on the desk were scattered all over the floor. All the books in the desk and cabinet were taken out and placed in a thick pile on the open space.
Joshua sat down on the floor, flipping through the pile of books and notes in front of him, his flaxen curly hair swinging like a mop.
The sound of "creaking" and turning pages, along with the sound of rain, echoed in Morris' office, making Dorian, who was bored, feel very sleepy.
Suddenly, Dorian's ears moved, and he immediately stopped and listened carefully.
The sounds came into his ears unexpectedly, very subtle and slow, a sound of dragging footsteps that did not belong to this room.
He keenly caught a light cough and realized that the old nun was coming this way.
"Master Dorian, have you noticed anything unusual?" Joshua poked his head out from the pile of books.
"There are so many anomalies. The old nun is coming this way, but from the sound, she's still quite a distance away." Dorian spoke in a low voice, his whole body tense.
"What on earth are you looking for? We need to get back to square one before she gets here."
Dorian snatched the book out of Joshua's hand and threw it aside.
"The account books, the account books of this welfare home, there is only this pile in front of me left."
Joshua gestured at the pile of books in front of him. There were at least 50 books scattered around.
"Why don't you just put it back where it was and just take these three pieces of paper."
Joshua stood up, folded the three sheets of paper covered with notes on the table, and put them in his pocket.
"No, just stand there, open your eyes wide and look carefully." Dorian said to Joshua, with an unquestionable command in his tone.
Dorian put his left hand on his waist, and a ball of green flame rose in the palm of his right hand.
His olive green eyes gradually turned red, and his red lips opened slightly, revealing a row of sharp teeth.
The flames expanded several times in the blink of an eye, covering the fifty or so notebooks in front of Joshua, and the books were lifted into the air by the flames.
"Ah!" Tiny sparks burned Joshua's curly hair in front of his eyes, scaring him so much that he stepped back and sat in Morris's office chair.
The books in the flames were neatly arranged one by one, and all opened in an instant. Then, one by one, they flew in front of Joshua with green flames.
"Look carefully for me. It's the account book you mentioned that stopped." Dorian's voice was different from the usual crisp voice. Instead, it was faintly echoing and bitingly cold.
The flames in the air flew towards Joshua one by one, and then flew back automatically after Joshua shook his head.
The flames came and went quickly. Joshua did not dare to be negligent and had to tense up and glance through the contents.
Dorian also stretched out his left hand, and small balls of green flames flew out from his palm, lifting the scattered documents and books on the ground back to their original places. The opened letters were also resealed and neatly stacked in a pile.
Joshua's side moved quickly. Finally, a black leather notebook flew in front of him, but Joshua still shook his head.
The blue flame rolled up the black notebook and flew back into the cabinet. After it was neatly arranged, the flame squeezed out from the gaps between the books and finally floated back into Dorian's hand.
"Still can't find the account book? You are such a waste."
Dorian rolled his eyes in disdain and sat down on the sofa, his whole body leaning to one side.
Joshua lowered his head and sat in his office chair. The flames that kept drifting in had already dried and sore his eyes.
There was always some white light blurring his vision, and Joshua had to blink desperately.
There was a rustling noise outside the door, accompanied by a few faint coughs. It must be Ms. Maggie.
Joshua jumped up from his office chair and flew to sit next to Dorian, continuing to sit upright and blinking.
His vision finally became clearer, and Joshua looked at Morris's tidy office in astonishment.
The envelopes and documents that had been turned out were restored to their original state, and the books scattered on the ground were neatly placed in the bookcases and desks.
With a "click", the door opened and a white figure slowly moved in.
"Sorry for the wait, Master Dorian."
An old and weak voice came from that wrinkled face, and Joshua couldn't even see whether Ms. Maggie opened her mouth.
Joshua sat upright, leaning slightly, and turned his gaze away from Ms. Maggie's bloated figure.
It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t turn, but it’ll be a surprise if it turns!
On the white wall facing Joshua, there were still large and small dents left by the trophy. The large and small shadows on the white wall were particularly conspicuous, and Ms. Maggie was about to turn around and look at the white wall!
"Master Dorian, Master Dorian!"
Joshua pushed Dorian in panic, and successfully earned a red glare from Dorian.
Joshua hurriedly pointed at the white wall in front of him, indicating the potholes and broken soil. At this time, Ms. Maggie's body had already turned halfway.
Joshua's heart was beating in his throat. At this moment, he wished Jacob was by his side. After all, with time, everything would be easier.
Dorian raised his eyes lazily, and snapped his fingers with his left hand. All the potholes on the wall were instantly restored to their smooth state.
The entire wall acted as if nothing had happened, and naturally did not arouse Ms. Maggie's suspicion.
Ms. Maggie took out a stack of documents and discussed the adoption with Dorian.
Joshua sat aside, not listening carefully to the conversation between the two, but looking around the office, wondering where the account books might be placed.
He had just searched the bookcases, desks and places where books were stored carefully. It was unlikely that he could find the answer in obvious places, so he could only look carefully in hidden places.
"Maybe it's in another room? Maybe in the prayer room," Joshua guessed.
"No, no, the prayer room is crowded with people coming and going, it's too dangerous."
"Maybe it's Ms. Grace's or Ms. Maggie's room?" Joshua guessed again.
"If it's a daily income account book, it's likely to be in the care of Ms. Grace, but I'm not looking for an open account book."
Joshua thought about it and finally came to the conclusion that it was still in Mr. Morris's private space.
Joshua looked around the small house, from left to right, from top to bottom, not missing any details.
Under the desk, under the floor, on the ceiling, in the sofa compartment...
