Hogwarts and the Atypical Wizard
Chapter 38 Quidditch Selection
When people adapt to a certain pace of life, time will pass very quickly.
"Saenz, there are Quidditch tryouts today. Everyone will go to the field. For Merlin's sake, you won't have to go to the library, will you?"
"Ben, I remember that only people in the second year and above can participate in Quidditch trials. I think it was you who said that."
Sainz glanced at his mechanical watch. It was six o'clock.
"If I remember correctly, this is the only time you got up early in the two weeks since you started school, and it was on a Saturday morning?
You are not sick, are you?
Ben ignored his quip, "Come on, it's Quidditch tryouts!
You see, even Adam is ready.”
What Ben said was right. Adam, the "poor student" of Hogwarts who needed to catch up on sleep during breaks from time to time, also got up early for once.
It seems that Quidditch is really attractive to children of wizarding origin.
Sainz thought about it and decided that there was no need to push himself too hard, so he nodded in agreement, "Okay, but I can't guarantee that I can see the end."
"That's right, you won't regret it." Ben nodded as if Sainz had made the right decision of the century.
Dumbledore said at the opening banquet that Quidditch player selection will begin in the second week, and those who are interested in representing the school should contact Madam Hooch.
In fact, Mrs. Huo Qi will not interfere in the selection of players for each college team. It is up to the captains to decide for themselves.
Yes, it’s already the weekend of the second week.
After one week of school, most of the young wizards had gradually adapted to campus life, and the second week was quite peaceful.
The only course with some problems was Potions, where Sainz lost five points again.
But none of this matters. Compared to the speed at which he earns points, Snape's dunk is just a drop in the bucket.
Sainz didn't care, and his two roommates were very angry again. After all, they had never added even one point to the college in the past two weeks.
Following my two excited roommates to the Quidditch field, the field was already surrounded by people, most of them were Hufflepuffs, but there were also a few students from other colleges.
The two days of the weekend were divided into four time periods, morning and afternoon. The four colleges drew lots to decide which time period to use the Quidditch field for student team selection.
At six o'clock, just after dawn, when Sainz and the other two arrived at the stadium, there were several figures hovering above the stadium, all wearing yellow Quidditch uniforms.
One of the boys pushed his broom forward a little. "I'm the goalkeeper of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, B. Dunstan. I'm honored to be elected as the captain this year. The ones next to me are Anders Nalvi, the chaser, Hemano Pike, the beater, and K. Bundy, the seeker."
Sainz looked in the direction of his hand and saw four people in the air. Among them, the seeker K. Bondi was a girl, and the other three were boys.
"Now, we have three players retired, and today we need to select a beater and two chasers from all the applicants."
B. Dunstan waved the list in his hand and said, "I'm glad that there are so many... forty-six... students who have signed up. Unfortunately, we can only select three. To save time, all the students who have signed up, please get on your broomsticks and fly quickly around the court for ten minutes."
As soon as B. Dunstan finished his words, dozens of people flew up from the edges of the field and, under his command, began to fly their brooms around the Quidditch field.
It was obvious that many lower grade students did not have the qualities of players. After flying at full speed for less than three minutes, more than twenty of them gave up automatically.
Most of them are girls. It is obvious that they signed up for the selection just on a whim. However, they found that it was not the case when they actually got to the field. When they flew at full speed, the pressure created by the strong wind heading in their faces even made it difficult for some people to breathe.
With more than half of the players gone at once, the situation on the field became much clearer.
Ten minutes later, several more people voluntarily withdrew from the selection.
Although Quidditch is not a racing sport, basic physical strength is still required. I heard that some games can last for a very long time, and those with poor physical fitness are simply born with disadvantages.
There are no substitutes in Quidditch games. If a player is absent during the game, he or she will have to rely on other players to carry on.
But the team has a total of seven people, and if one person is missing, the combat power will be greatly reduced. If the missing person is the goalkeeper, then let him cry.
When the ten minutes were up, Seeker K. Bundy opened the ball box and released the Bludgers. After being released from the box, the two Bludgers quickly flew towards the reserve players flying around the field.
Don't think that someone is deliberately doing bad things. The purpose of the bludger on the court is to cause interference to players on both sides.
That's why batsmen exist. Their job is to use the bat in their hands to knock aside the bludgers that are heading towards their own players.
Of course, you can also hit the Bludger towards the opposing player, which is allowed on the court.
Sainz noticed that the Bludgers released by Bondi were plastic balls used for adaptive training for beginners. They were relatively soft and even if they were hit, the danger was not great.
Most of the preparatory players were dodging, but four students began swinging their bats to intercept the plastic balls that were coming from both sides.
Those who came with bats probably signed up to be batters.
Although Sainz was not very interested in Quidditch, he had read the book "Quidditch: The Magic of Quidditch" and had some understanding of it.
Take the Bludger for example. The ones that are flying around on the field nowadays are toy-like plastic balls. When the Hogwarts house team competes, the Bludgers they use are made of hardwood, which already have a certain power, otherwise Harry would not have broken his arm in the second grade.
The Bludgers used in real league or international Quidditch matches are all made of iron, with a diameter of ten inches, equivalent to a diameter of 25.4 centimeters. If they are solid, their mass is around 37.6 kilograms.
Just imagine, what would happen to you if a metal egg weighing more than 70 kilograms hit you at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour?
Even if it's not solid, even if it only weighs ten pounds, I wonder if anyone has ever tried to hit themselves with a ten-pound shot put?
Otherwise, Muggles would think wizards are crazy!!!
Sometimes it's not that Muggles are being pretentious, it's because what may seem like a harmless little joke to wizards may very likely cost a Muggle's life.
I remember that in the original storyline, Ron once said that the twins once gave him a sour candy when he was five years old, which directly burned a hole in his tongue.
That would be so damn sour. Even if you drink a mouthful of concentrated sulfuric acid, it wouldn't react that quickly.
Wow~~~~
Thunderous applause!
It turned out that the batsman had chosen.
A fourth-grade girl named Makexing O'Flaherty hit the Bludger ten times in a row, protecting herself and four students around her from being hit, while several other contestants missed the ball.
"Great, Makestar!" B. Dunstan cheered loudly, "Please go to the side and have a rest. There are two more Chasers to be selected..."
