Hogwarts and the Atypical Wizard
Chapter 12: Crossing the Black Lake
Seeing that someone took the initiative to approach the giant without any trouble, all the freshmen seemed relieved and followed behind.
"Okay, first-years, first-years, follow me, watch your step!"
Sainz and others followed Hagrid, stumbling along a small path. The path was extremely narrow and extended downward along a steep slope, as if walking on a strange python lying on the ground.
There were dense woods on both sides of the path, blocking out even the stars in the sky, making it pitch black.
Sainz thought about it and turned on the light, "fluorescent flashing".
A beam of white light immediately shot out from the tip of the twelve-inch, light-green applewood wand. The intensity was just enough to illuminate the road, but not blinding. "You go ahead, I'll follow behind."
When the little wizards saw the light, they gathered towards the light source and walked past him one by one. Sainz counted them roughly and found that there were less than fifty people in total.
"Thank you. You used the lighting spell very well. I must say that is rare among freshmen."
Once they reached the lake at the end of the path, Hagrid thanked him and praised his magic.
"You're welcome, Hagrid. I heard the senior students call you that. Hello, I'm Sainz, Sainz Autumn."
"Yes, I'm Hagrid, the gamekeeper and key keeper of Hogwarts. I live in a wooden house next to the forbidden forest. You are welcome to come to the house when you have time to taste the rock cakes I make myself."
"Okay, thank you for your invitation. I will definitely bother you when I have time." Hagrid seemed very happy to hear his answer.
“First-year students, everyone is here, have you seen the high hillside opposite the Black Lake?
The castle above is Hogwarts, you need to take a boat to get there." He pointed to a row of boats parked on the shore and said loudly.
"Okay, everyone get on board, but no more than four people can be on each boat."
There are four people on each boat, and they have to go on the lake. This allows the young wizards to experience the friendship of the four giants back then, and that establishing Hogwarts was a difficult and arduous goal.
Everyone got on board, and Sainz's teammates on the boat were still the kids he met in the train compartment.
"Were you talking to that giant just now?" The three people asked him stealthily after getting on the boat.
"You're so brave, what did you say?"
"Nothing, he thanked me for lighting the way for you and invited me to his cabin to taste his rock cake."
"Wow, he's pretty nice..."
"Yeah, I think he's a nice guy, after ignoring his vicious look." Sainz made a joke, and the other three agreed.
"Everyone, listen to me. Is everyone on board? Okay, then... let's go!"
Hagrid had one boat to himself.
The fleet sailed across the mirror-like lake and got closer and closer. Sainz looked from the boat and saw that under the towering spires of the castle on the hillside, the windows were blinking like curious eyes under the starlight.
As they got closer, everyone fell silent. The towering and audible castle was like a giant taking off.
"Keep your heads down!" Hagrid shouted as the boat approached the cliff.
Everyone lowered their heads quickly, and the boat passed through the ivy curtain on the rocks that looked like hair swaying in the wind, and entered a hidden open area.
In front of everyone was a dark tunnel, but fortunately, with Sainz's lights, they didn't have to grope in the dark.
After walking for a while, we came to the basement of the castle and finally arrived at an underground dock.
And it’s not over yet, we have to climb up to a gravel ground similar to the Gobi Desert.
They went up another flight of stone steps and finally gathered in front of a huge oak door.
"Let me see, is everyone here?"
Hagrid raised a huge fist and banged on the door three times.
The door suddenly opened.
Behind the door stood a tall, elderly, black-haired witch, dressed in emerald green robes and with a serious expression.
"Professor McGonagall, the first years are here." Hagrid said stiffly.
"Thank you, Hagrid. Leave it to me from here." Hagrid nodded and walked away quickly.
Professor McGonagall opened the door wide, just like Gringotts, and there were burning torches along the surrounding stone walls.
The ceiling was so high that you couldn't see the top. Looking inside from the door, opposite the main entrance was a luxurious marble staircase, which reflected the light of torches and led directly to the upper floors.
Everyone followed Professor McGonagall inside. There was a stone floor under their feet. There was a big door in the stone wall on the right. They could faintly hear voices and a buzzing sound.
Professor McGonagall took them to a small empty room at the other end of the hall. The little wizards huddled together, looking around nervously.
"First of all, welcome everyone to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall, "The start-of-term feast will begin in a moment.
I suggest you tidy yourself up while you wait."
When she glanced at them with a serious look, all the newbies quickly straightened their appearance.
After she walked out of the room, she turned around and said, "I need you to keep quiet while you wait. I will come pick you up when they are ready."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, "Sainz, why aren't you nervous at all? I don't know how they are going to separate the houses." Angelina also lost the courage she had on the train.
"Oh, I've read all the first-grade textbooks, so I should be able to pass the test."
Sainz felt a sense of mischief in his heart, and said seriously, "It's just an entrance exam, it's normal. You have been exposed to magic since childhood, so there will be no problem."
Angelina, Stebbins, Roger, and a few other children all turned pale, and everyone was terrified. Some of the children were mumbling something, apparently trying to cram for an exam.
Hiding the Sorting Ceremony from freshmen is a traditional little trick of Hogwarts. Every senior who has been caught in the rain will remove the tent above the head of the younger generation.
Many people stared at the door, waiting for Professor McGonagall to lead them to destruction at any time.
In this tense atmosphere, any movement could scare people. Suddenly, someone screamed, "Ah - what is that -"
