Harry Potter: Miss Malfoy
Chapter 27: In the Shadows of the Forbidden Forest (First Encounter with Centaur)
Apart from the bright moonlight and the yellowish light twinkling like stars in the castle, the only light for the figure walking towards the forest came from the lantern in Hagrid's hand.
Unfortunately, the light was completely blocked by Hagrid's tall figure.
Draco, Harry, Hermione and Neville, who were following behind him, could only follow him in confusion.
We slowly walked around a bend in the woods and found the castle behind us. We discovered a muddy path in the gap.
"Look there! Do you see that shiny thing on the ground?"
Hagrid stopped and pointed at the liquid on the path that was reflecting the light like a silver mirror.
The evening breeze blew gently, bringing the smell of liquid.
It was an indescribable scent, definitely not a subtle fragrance, but also without any fishy smell.
Somehow, Draco's heart suddenly twitched violently, and he felt inexplicably sad.
Hermione beside him had lowered her head, took out a handkerchief and gently wiped the corners of her eyes.
"That's unicorn blood."
"A unicorn was attacked and seriously injured."
This is the second time this has happened. I found one dead last Wednesday.
We have to find it quickly, maybe we can help it get rid of it..."
Hagrid turned around, looked at the four people, and spoke heavily.
He turned to Hermione and Draco with particular concern.
"Don't worry, it's normal for you to feel upset when you smell unicorn blood."
"In ancient legends, there is a mysterious magical connection between unicorns and girls."
To Draco's surprise, Hagrid's eyes were filled with pure sadness and kindness.
Draco could only hold back his anger and nodded helplessly as tears threatened to well up in his eyes.
"We don't have much time left, I'm afraid we have to split up."
"Harry, you men will stay with Fang, okay?"
Harry looked at Hagrid steadily, though his face was pale.
"Good boy!"
Hagrid responded approvingly and continued explaining.
"Don't be afraid. Remember, whoever finds the unicorn first will shoot green sparks into the air."
If you are in trouble, shoot the red sparks and everyone will come to help you."
"Practice, okay?"
Under Hagrid's guidance, Harry, Draco, and Hermione each held their wands low.
He fired a beam of light at the grass, avoiding sparks in the air and startling the creatures in the forest.
Only a few sparks came out of the tip of Neville's wand, but he was unable to cast a spell.
"Hah...Harry...I...I..."
While he was helplessly asking for help, his face was full of a mixture of frustration, tension and fear.
Draco stood quietly by, watching Harry and Hermione exchange glances.
Before Hermione could say anything, Draco stepped forward and spoke softly, suppressing his fear.
"Let me exchange with... with him."
"At least, if we really encounter danger, each group can have two people cast spells."
He ignored Harry's surprised expression and stared at Hagrid.
He also ignored his heartbeat which started beating faster.
"You want to be with Fang, huh?"
"Let me warn you first, it's actually a coward."
Draco raised an eyebrow at Hagrid's response.
But it was Hermione who continued to ask the question that really worried her.
"What if...the creature that hurt the unicorn finds us first?"
"What could it be? Is it possible that the werewolf Malfoy just mentioned could kill a unicorn?"
Hagrid fell silent, causing Draco and Hermione to look at each other in fear.
"Werewolves probably can't kill unicorns, and they usually don't want to try."
"It's unusual to deliberately hurt a unicorn like this."
"Unicorns are magical creatures with great power, and I've never seen them injured before."
Hagrid continued talking to himself, and seemed to finally realize that his words only made the children more nervous.
"Don't worry, we won't go too deep."
"That unicorn can't get far with such serious injuries."
"And the thing that hurt it would not be willing to expose itself so easily..."
She hastily added, but the uncertainty in her tone made Draco narrow his eyes again and Hermione raised her eyebrows.
"Uh...well...well, let's get going!"
"If we find the unicorn soon, we can come back."
Perhaps because he was under too much pressure from being stared at by Hermione and Draco at the same time, Hagrid abruptly announced the disbandment.
Soon, he led Neville and Hermione to the left side of the path and disappeared from Harry and Draco's sight.
Fang whimpered.
"So..."
Harry gestured and said it, and Draco looked into his green eyes quietly.
“‘Let’s go.’”
After saying this in unison, Harry quickened his pace and let Draco walk between him and Fang.
As soon as we entered the forest, the dense branches quickly blocked out the moonlight.
Harry and Draco blinked, trying to adjust to the darkness.
In the foggy forest, the unseasonable chill mixed with moisture was also attacking the bodies of the two.
Draco shuddered unconsciously and pulled his robes closer.
As if he noticed Draco's reaction, Harry slowed down, turned around, and opened his mouth to speak but didn't utter a word.
They looked at each other blankly, turned their heads away, and Harry walked forward again.
The speed of advancement, however, was much slower.
This allowed Draco, who was originally walking behind Harry, to walk side by side with Harry.
Yaya followed closely behind the two men with his tail raised.
"you-"
"Shhh."
Finally, Harry spoke.
Draco put his index finger on his lips alertly, signaling him to be quiet.
Quietly, he pointed to a figure not far away, slowly walking towards the core of the forest.
Wearing a cloak, it looks like a human figure.
Draco and Harry exchanged glances.
Without saying a word, they both knew each other's decision: to stay where they were and wait and see.
Draco whispered until the figure was far away.
"That person...could he also be looking for a unicorn...?"
"I have no idea..."
"Do you think we should tell Hagrid that there are other people in the forest?"
Harry asked back, looking back.
"Are you relying on my ideas, Potter?"
Draco felt somewhat smug listening to his confusion.
It's rare that the stupid boy in front of me finally understands to ask the right person.
But Harry just shrugged and turned to look at himself.
Draco then realized that Harry had unknowingly stood in front of him again.
Just like the night I first saw the three-headed dog.
Somehow, my cheeks felt slightly hot and I deliberately took half a step back.
Before he could open his mouth to speak, he saw Harry step in.
At the same time, he raised his hands and stretched them towards his ears.
"You...what are you going to do!"
Her fair and flawless face suddenly turned red, and she quickly turned sideways, dodging while shouting.
Harry was so scared that he stopped moving, his face full of embarrassment.
"There are fallen leaves on your shoulder... on your shoulder."
As he spoke, he withdrew his right hand that was suspended in the air and scratched the back of his head.
He quickly lowered his head and looked at the half-fallen leaf resting on the shoulder of his robe.
After pushing the fallen leaves onto the grass, he thanked me with a blushing face.
"Thank you."
Immediately, he spoke with a pouty expression.
"But you can use words, Potter."
"Uh... apologies..."
As if realizing his abruptness, Harry's face also turned red.
They stood there silently until Yaya whimpered a few times and then they came to their senses.
"babble-!"
Draco was almost frightened to scream by the sudden scene in front of him.
Harry stood in front of him with a grim look on his face.
On the grass in front of me where the shade of trees was sparse, a tall figure appeared without me noticing.
The figure has a muscular upper body and the four hooves of a horse.
Harry looked back in surprise and confusion, and Draco murmured in disbelief.
"Centaur...?"
"The wizard's young children."
"Are you also so cruel and bloodthirsty?"
The centaur spoke sadly, his face was gentle but his expression was gloomy.
Draco and Harry looked at each other, unsure how to respond.
“We are still students.”
"I'm Harry Potter and this is Draco Malfoy."
But it was Harry who first mustered up the courage to introduce himself.
"Yes, students, I have discovered. Have you learned a lot?"
"I'm Luo Nan."
The centaur replied dimly, and after confirming that the two posed no threat, he raised his head and calmly looked out at the starry night through the sparse branches.
“We only learned a little.”
Draco tried to speak.
I once heard my mother say that centaurs are creatures with profound wisdom.
"A little? That's good. Mars is particularly bright tonight."
Luo Nan listened and seemed no longer interested in the students' topic.
Draco also looked up in confusion and found that although the branches were no longer dense, they were not enough to see Mars.
He frowned in confusion and looked at Harry.
Harry shrugged helplessly, then took a deep breath and asked a question.
"Ronan? Excuse me, we're helping Hagrid, do you know—"
"Yes, I know Hagrid."
"Great! We're helping him, there's an injured unicorn-"
"The purest and most innocent are always the first to be sacrificed."
"It has always been this way, and it is still this way now."
"Uh... yes, Mr. Luo Nan."
"Sir? That's a wizard's title. I'm a centaur."
"S-sorry, I just wanted to ask-"
“Although the etiquette was inappropriate, the intention was still worth appreciating.”
"Uh...thank you."
"You're welcome, Harry Potter."
After listening to Harry and Luo's slow and rambling conversation, Draco finally couldn't help but ask.
"Luo Nan, is there anything unusual in the recent forest?"
"Mars is exceptionally bright tonight. Unusually bright."
However, Luo Nan kept his head up and slowly repeated his previous response.
"I know. You just said that."
"We want to know other things, like, are there any strange figures entering the forest?"
Draco raised his delicate eyebrows and asked again, but Luo Nan just fell silent.
I couldn't help but look at Harry, and in the direction of Luo Nan, I rolled my bright eyes.
When Harry almost raised the corners of his mouth to laugh, Luo Nan finally spoke.
"There are many secrets hidden in the forest."
As he spoke, he stood still like a stone statue in deep thought.
Harry and Draco looked at each other again and seemed to have reached a consensus.
Passing Luo Nan, he walked deeper into the forest.
