Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 317: Plan within a Plan
"Dutch agreed." Sadie said to Arthur with a smile.
"What?" Arthur was stared at by Sadie and his mind was stunned for a moment.
"Tomorrow's mission is to kill Cornwall. Dutch agreed to let you go."
"Ah...this...Dutch..." Arthur didn't expect that Sadie could actually convince Dutch, and in such a short time. He was not mentally prepared at all and became incoherent.
Sadie raised an eyebrow: "Why, you don't believe it? How about I let Dutch tell you in person?"
"No, no." Arthur waved his hands quickly, "I believe it. I really believe it."
Seeing this, Sadie looked at Lin Yan proudly, put her hands on her hips, and snorted, "Done."
Lin Yan was upset. Even though Sadie was helping him, the method she used this time was something Lin Yan couldn't afford.
"I have helped with everything I should do. You can handle the rest yourself." After saying this to Lin Yan, Sadie walked past him with her head held high and went about her own business.
From Arthur's perspective, Sadie's last two words before she left completely confirmed that she was instructed by Lin Yan to do this. So after Sadie left, Arthur looked at Lin Yan with a look of certainty instead of suspicion.
He crossed his arms and took a deep breath, then patiently asked Lin Yan: "Tell me, why do you have to drag me into this?"
"I'm not...I didn't..." Lin Yan looked like he was about to cry.
Unforeseen disaster, this is pure unforeseen disaster! Sadie is a woman, it's ok that she has a strong imagination, but Arthur, you are a grown man, why do you also have wild imaginations...
In the end, Lin Yan used all his words and tricks, and it took a full hour to convince Arthur that he was also a victim in this matter. He only told Sadie about tomorrow's mission, and the rest of the matters were decided by Sadie on her own.
After sending Arthur away with all his might, Lin Yan fell on the bed exhausted, looking up to the sky and sighing: "Alas! Women..."
Because he was always thinking about this, Lin Yan, who usually fell asleep at bedtime, unexpectedly suffered from insomnia that night. He didn't know whether Sadie's self-willed behavior was good or bad, whether it was a deliberate arrangement of the system or Sadie's awakening. He kept thinking about it and tossed and turned in bed for most of the night. It was not until the second half of the night that Lin Yan forced himself to fall asleep.
"Jamie, wake up, we should go."
"Ha! Is this kid scared, so he's pretending to be asleep here to get away with it?" Before Lin Yan opened his eyes, he heard Micah's sneer with a strong hint of sarcasm.
The next morning, Lin Yan was woken up by Arthur. In addition to Arthur and Micah, who had just spoken, surrounding his bed, Dutch, who was dressed neatly, was also standing a little further away.
Realizing that he had gotten up late, Lin Yan sat up from the bed, picked up the clothes beside him, put them on and apologized, "Sorry, I've kept you waiting for so long. I'll be there soon, soon..."
"No rush." Dutch said, taking out his pocket watch and checking the time. "If our old friend Cornwall is punctual, we still have... um... one hour and twenty-three minutes to prepare."
"Isn't this urgent?" Micah complained loudly, "It takes us twenty minutes to ride to Annesburg on horseback. Even if we set out right now, we won't have much time to plan an ambush and retreat when we get there. I think we should have kicked this lazy guy out and let him go wherever he wants. I don't think it's worth wasting one more second on him."
"Don't pay attention to this scumbag, Jamie." Sadie appeared out of nowhere, holding a cup of steaming hot coffee in her hand. She walked up to Lin Yan, who was dressed and ready to leave with everyone, handed him the coffee in her hand, and said in a tone that did not allow any arguments: "Have a cup of coffee to refresh yourself before leaving."
When Lin Yan heard Sadie's tone, he dared not refuse her kindness. He took the coffee from her hand, blew on it twice, felt the temperature, and drank it all in one gulp.
"Thank you." Lin Yan returned the cup to Sadie, turned to Dutch and said, "I'm fine, let's go."
The four men rode at full speed without saying a word along the way, each with their own thoughts, and arrived in Annesburg on time at nine o'clock in the morning.
Thick black smoke kept coming out of the chimneys of the mines and factories on the edge of this mining town. All kinds of dust were floating in the air as usual. The streets in the town were still empty. Most of the townspeople had already gone to their respective jobs at this time, working in mines or factories, exchanging their hard work for a meager salary.
After entering the town, the group did not immediately go to the dock where Cornwall would appear. Led by Dutch, they first circled the town. Lin Yan knew that Dutch was planning their escape route.
After circling the town for most of the way, Dutch finally decided to tie the horse halfway up the mountain near a company called the Jameson Mining and Coal Company.
Arthur was puzzled to see Dutch leave his escape tools in such an inconvenient place. "Why choose here? Wouldn't it be better to choose near the dock? We can just ride on horses and escape right away after we're done."
Micah chuckled and explained for Dutch, "You may not know this yet, but the company that will be signing a contract with Cornwall is the Jameson Mining and Coal Company. We are only trying to settle accounts with Cornwall today. Our main goal is to get the contracts and documents he signed."
Arthur chuckled, "Why, are we going to take over Cornwall's property under the name of the Van der Linde Gang?"
"It's like this." Dutch was worried that Micah couldn't explain it clearly, so he explained himself: "Cornwall has more than just the contract used today, but all the contracts he has signed with others before. If we get those contracts from Cornwall, we can control the lifeline of his company. Do you understand? What's really important is not Cornwall's life, but the contracts in his hands. As long as we get those contracts, we will have the capital to negotiate with those people behind Cornwall. At that time, let alone asking them to cancel Pinkerton's pursuit of us, they will have to pay even if we blackmail them for hundreds of thousands of dollars."
"Are you sure this plan is reliable?" Arthur's mind was still fresh in the minds of all the previous failed scenes. He no longer trusted Dutch's plan as unconditionally as before.
Dutch's face darkened. "Are you doubting my ability? Who do you think I'm doing this for? If it was just for myself, I could have chosen to kill Cornwall and run away directly, but I didn't do that. Instead, I chose to take a huge risk to get those documents. I did this all for the gang, for everyone, so that we can have a better life, but you question me at this time. Frankly speaking, Arthur, you disappoint me so much."
