Wilderness Redemption Tour

Chapter 315: The Gap of Trust

After bidding farewell to Hamish, the veteran with a broken leg, Lin Yan and Sadie returned to the beaver cave before nightfall.

After the uncle left, the entire camp became much quieter. The evening should have been the time for camp members to chat and share their experiences of the day with others, but now no one was talking loudly. Everyone was silently busy with their own things, even Sean, who was known as the gang's funny guy.

Micah, who hadn't been seen for a long time, also came back today. Not long after Lin Yan came back, he saw him coming out of Dutch's tent. The two must have been secretly planning something again. Now that Molly was gone, it was more convenient for him to discuss things with Dutch.

After a while, Daqi also walked out of the tent. He stood at the door of the tent and glanced around the camp, and finally fixed his eyes on Lin Yan who was staring at him.

He waved at Lin Yan expressionlessly, motioning him to come over. Lin Yan scratched his head, not knowing why Daqi called him alone, and walked over with trepidation.

When Lin Yan came closer, he said "Come in and talk" and turned back into the tent.

"Why is it so mysterious? What's going on..." Lin Yan muttered silently, then followed Dachi and walked in through the curtain.

Inside the tent, Dutch, who had a blank expression just now, put on a kind smile. He pointed to the bed and stool in the tent and said gently, "Sit anywhere you like."

"I can just stand..." Lin Yan rubbed his hands, seeming a little restrained.

"Okay, whatever you want." Dutch sat down on a stool at the head of the bed and looked up at Lin Yan. "Jamie, you've been in the gang for quite some time. How are you doing? Are you used to it?"

"It's fine. Everyone is very friendly to me." Lin Yan was a little puzzled. Is Dutch trying to win me over and play the emotional card with me?

"That's good." Dutch smiled when he heard this, and stopped being polite with Lin Yan. He went straight to the topic of today's conversation: "Come with me to Annesburg tomorrow morning."

When Lin Yan heard Dutch mention Annesburg, his heart moved, and he immediately thought of Dutch's plan to ambush Cornwall.

"Is it about Cornwall?" Lin Yan asked directly.

Dutch nodded, "Yes, Micah heard that he will come to Annesburg tomorrow to carry out the acquisition work."

"Do we have to go?" Lin Yan asked a question that seemed a little ridiculous to Dachi.

"Yes, I have to go." Dutch's expression was extremely serious.

"Okay..." Lin Yan sighed silently in his heart, thinking that the Van der Linde Gang could not escape this disaster.

"Who is going?" Lin Yan asked again.

"You, me, and Micah. Just the three of us."

"Why don't you bring Arthur?" Lin Yan asked in confusion: "For such an important matter, Arthur is more suitable than a newbie like me, right?"

Daqi did not answer Lin Yan's question. He looked at Lin Yan directly, changing his previous friendly expression and said in a stiff tone: "I have my own plan for this. You don't need to know."

Lin Yan originally wanted to continue asking why Javier and Bill, his two die-hard fans, were not invited, and whether he could invite Sadie, but when he saw Dutch's reaction, he realized that he had probably said something wrong, so he swallowed the rest of his words back.

"Well... okay then..." Lin Yan answered cautiously.

Seeing Lin Yan's expression, Dutch seemed to feel that his reaction was a bit extreme. He softened his expression and comforted him softly, "Kid, I know what you want to ask, but I can't tell you the details for now. Don't worry, I have planned what to do tomorrow, you just need to follow me. According to my investigation, Cornwall is the culprit who has made us run around for the past two months. As long as we get rid of him, Pinkerton will have no financial support from Cornwall and will most likely give up the hunt for us. Without Pinkerton detectives to mess with us, our gang will soon become bigger and stronger, and then good days will not be far away for us."

In today's workplace, what Dutch said is nothing but empty promises. As a veteran, Lin Yan has heard various versions of Dutch's rhetoric countless times, whether from personal experience or hearsay, so he doesn't believe a word of the bright future that Dutch described for him.

But even if he didn't believe it, Lin Yan wouldn't be stupid enough to ask Daqi about the specific details of the cake, such as how much flour was used, how much water was added, and how big it was. The boss personally came out to draw the cake for you, which was already giving you enough face. It would be impolite to ask more details.

So Lin Yan could only respond with a few words casually, pretending to be a passionate young man with dreams and little knowledge. He still knew how to do it.

After Daqi realized that his goal had been achieved, he personally escorted Lin Yan out of the tent. Lin Yan was smiling and full of confidence the moment before, but as soon as he returned to his position, his whole face immediately drooped. He really didn't want to do this mission. People always say that those who are involved are confused, while those who are on the sidelines can see clearly. Now, even if he is confused as an official, he can see clearly what is good for the gang and what is harmful to the gang.

What Dutch is doing is playing with fire, and he is playing with fire while being covered in gasoline.

"What did Dutch say when he asked you to come over?" Sadie walked over and asked curiously. Arthur and Hosea, who were chatting in a low voice nearby, also stopped talking and focused their attention on Lin Yan.

Lin Yan turned around and looked back at Dutch's tent. After finding that Dutch had gone back, he whispered to Sadie why Dutch had called him in.

"Dutch is going to ambush Cornwall in Annesburg tomorrow, and he wants you to go with him without Arthur..." Sadie squinted her eyes and lowered her head to repeat the incident in a low voice, and gave her own guess: "Didn't Arthur oppose Dutch doing this before? Could it be that Dutch no longer trusts Arthur?"

Arthur and Hosea did not hear what the two said due to the distance, but they could tell from the lip movements of Lin Yan and Sadie that the incident was probably related to Arthur.

It is related to Arthur, but Arthur is not found, which is quite intriguing.

Arthur himself might not think too badly, but who is Hosea? As an old man, the brain trust of the Van der Linde gang, and the only person in the world who knows Dutch better than Arthur, Hosea immediately linked this incident to the thing he expected that he didn't want to see, but felt that it would happen sooner or later - Arthur was no longer trusted by Dutch because of his recent performance.

"Have things deteriorated to this point..." Hosea muttered to himself and sighed helplessly. Dutch had just returned a few days ago, and the old-fashioned train of the Van der Linde Gang was about to deviate from its original direction. The people who could have gotten off the train safely at the next stop were about to fall into the abyss ahead with this train that deviated from the scheduled route. Before this train completely fell, he, as a conductor, had to do his best to make these confused passengers on the train recognize the danger ahead and persuade them to jump off the train early.
