Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 301 Witness
Arthur twisted the prophet's arm, "Come on, tell these people loudly what's in the bottle!"
"Hiss... Gently..." The prophet gasped in pain. He was in a dilemma. If he told the truth, he would not be able to do his job after the villagers knew the truth. If he didn't tell the truth, he knew how poisonous the water in the mine was. What if these nosy guys really let him drink it? It was scary to think about it.
After weighing the pros and cons, he gave up resistance and told the truth in front of everyone: "The company found arsenic and lead in that mine. During the excavation process, the workers accidentally dug into a group of caves, and then things got out of control. The ores containing arsenic and lead spread rapidly after being exposed to the air... I originally wanted everyone to leave here. At first, I did have good intentions..."
"Heh." Arthur snorted and looked at the villagers of Butcher River Village, led by Obadiah. "You all heard it, right? Your prophet himself admitted it."
"Oh my god..."
"That mine is so dangerous..."
"Luckily we sold it..."
The villagers who learned the truth gathered together and whispered for a while, and Obadiah stood up again.
"There's nothing to argue about." He looked heartbroken. "There's no doubt that we are cursed!"
Arthur Lin Yansha Di Charles looked dazed: "Ah?"
The false prophet who has given up: “Huh???”
"What are you talking about? There is no curse at all!" Arthur didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Did you really listen to what he said just now?"
"A powerful force has invaded this town. It's those evil ghosts who did it!" Obadiah insisted stubbornly.
Lin Yan felt that these people's IQs were completely offline, but he still shook the agreement in his hand to try to correct their thoughts. "It's not the ghost, it's all the fault of this 'Roanoke Fuel Company'." He pointed at the prophet who was lost in thought: "Didn't he admit it himself just now?"
"No! It's the ghost!" Obadiah was surprisingly stubborn this time. "It was the ghost who sent the message to us through that company. They manipulated you to come here. They controlled you and the prophet. From now on, we won't believe anyone's words!"
After saying this, Obadiah turned around and waved to the other villagers: "Come on, brothers and sisters, let's go and pray. God will protect us no matter what."
"Don't just pray, do something!" Even Sadie couldn't stand it anymore. "You didn't sign this agreement, so you have to ask this company for some compensation, right?"
"Don't worry about us, just leave now." Obadiah turned around and said, "This is our curse, we will solve it ourselves, you outsiders should stop interfering."
"Did you hear what he said?" Sadie looked disappointed. "We helped them so much, but in the end we became redundant. Are these guys so stupid that they can't even tell right from wrong?" She turned to look at the drooping prophet and kicked him angrily. "Tell me! What did you do to these people?"
The prophet wanted to cry but had no tears. He also felt a little wronged. "I didn't do anything! If I had known they were so easy to deceive, why would I have gone to so much trouble, making up stories and hanging talismans? Do you know how difficult those trees are to climb..." After the identity of the liar was completely confirmed, the prophet simply stopped pretending and stopped talking in mysterious and evasive ways.
"Were you the one who detonated the explosives in the mine just now?" Arthur asked him.
"It was me." He admitted generously, "I followed you this morning and saw you walk into the mine. I was worried that you would tell the villagers about the pollution, so I found a way to get some explosives to completely seal you in. The entire mine tunnel has collapsed. How did you get out?"
Sadie raised her hand and hit him on the head. "Just answer whatever we ask. You have no right to ask questions here."
The prophet looked at Sadie with resentment, and naturally received a beating as a result.
After being tired of fighting, Sadie held the Prophet's face, which was swollen like a pig's head, by the collar and asked the others: "How should we deal with this guy? Should we drag him to death on the road when we get back?"
The prophet shuddered when he heard this way of death and begged, "For the sake of my honest answer, please let me die quickly."
Lin Yan thought about it and shook his head. "No, we can't kill him."
Sadie was surprised by Lin Yan's decision. She said puzzledly, "But he almost caused us to die in the mine. Just based on this, he should have died several times."
Arthur also stood up and agreed with Lin Yan's point of view. "Jamie is right, we can't just kill him like this."
"Why? Shouldn't this guy die?" Sadie was so angry that she kicked the prophet again.
"Of course he deserves to die." Lin Yan comforted Sadie. "But he was just a small errand boy in the whole thing. The one who deserves to die is Roanoke Company, which planned to cover up this from the beginning."
Arthur continued Lin Yan's words and said, "Isn't this company in Annesburg? We will go to Annesburg later and hand him over to the sheriff there, and he will be in charge of handling this matter. This guy knows all the inside stories of this matter. Not only can we not kill him, we have to protect him. There is no place safer than the police station."
"Didn't you say that we should let the mayor of Saint Denis handle it?"
"The mayor can only play a supervisory role at best. The real work still has to be done by the people below. We can't bring him directly to the mayor, can we?"
"Well then." Sadie said sensibly, "I've already vented my anger, so you guys decide how to deal with him."
After discussing the next steps, Lin Yan and Arthur split up. Lin Yan and Sadie took the prophet to Annesburg, handed him over to the sheriff there, and asked him to write a written evidence of all the events in front of the sheriff. Arthur and Charles went to St. Denis to inform the mayor of the Butcher River Village. Arthur said that the mayor had met him alone after they attended a dinner at the mayor's mansion last time, and he had helped him with a few small favors, so he would most likely meet the mayor himself this time.
On the way to Annesburg to surrender with the prophet, Sadie asked Lin Yan a question that came to her mind.
"What do you think...are those people in Butcher River Village really stupid or are they just pretending to be stupid?"
"Didn't you see it all?" Lin Yan felt a little amused. "It's bad enough that they don't understand what's written in the agreement, but they don't even know who the real instigator of this incident is."
"Is that really the case?" Sadie asked.
