Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 300 Agreement
The four people who survived the disaster discussed the aftermath of the incident on their way back to Butche River Village.
The Kamassa River is not a small river, so this matter is naturally not a small matter. This river originates from the snow-capped mountains in the north and passes through Annesburg, Butcher River Village, Blue Water Swamp, Black Swamp, and finally flows into the Lanachche River near Saint Denis. It flows through two states along the way and affects the daily lives of tens of thousands of people. If what Obadiah said is true, the company that acquired the mine had shut down the excavation there several years ago, which means that the toxic minerals in the mountains had already polluted the Kamassa River several years ago. Although only the villagers of Butcher River Village, which is closest to the pollution source, have shown symptoms of poisoning, to be more serious, the people living downstream around the Kamassa River have also been affected by the toxins in the river water, and even the Van der Linde gang, who once lived in Rakai for a while, are no exception.
After everyone's discussion, they finally decided on a more compromising solution, which was to meet with the mayor of Saint Denis, Henry Lemieux, to inform him of the incident and the dangers, and urge him to send someone to deal with it as soon as possible. If the other party did not take action, they would post notices on the streets of Saint Denis to expose the matter. The mine was there, and it would be easy to find out whether the matter was true or false. When the residents of Saint Denis learned that they had been drinking "added" drinking water for several years, they would definitely spare no effort to urge the mayor to solve the matter. In this way, even if the mayor had selfish motives and just wanted to stay in this position, he would have to deal with the matter as soon as possible.
When they came to Butchehe Village again, just as they arrived at the village entrance, Lin Yan and his companions saw from afar a group of people gathered together, shouting slogans enthusiastically.
After getting closer, the four finally heard what the group was shouting.
"I told you I would save you!"
"That's right!"
"I told you I would guide you out of the darkness!"
"That's right!" "Please give us light!"
"I will! But first, you have to sign this paper..."
It turned out that the villagers of Butcher River Village gathered around the false prophet, listening to his passionate speech. At the end, the false prophet took out a piece of paper from behind and slapped it on the table next to him.
"This is not an ordinary piece of paper. I have infused a powerful magic into this piece of paper. As long as you write your name on it, it will protect you when you go out."
Lin Yan and his companions exchanged a few words in a low voice, then dismounted, controlled their emotions, and walked to a place where they would not attract attention to eavesdrop.
They want to see what this guy is up to.
Obadiah took the paper and read it while the prophet was still speaking, then read aloud with difficulty: "I...I am willing to give up...waive, exempt, and...with Roanoke Fuel Company in terms of pollution..."
Obadiah only stammered a few words, and the prophet, who had come to his senses, snatched the paper from his hand and shouted at him angrily, "Stop reading! How do you know how to read?"
"I... I would have known that..." Obadiah was confused. He didn't understand why the prophet was so angry.
"Alright! The childish tricks are over!" Arthur and Charles stepped forward, sandwiching the prophet on the left and right. Then, Arthur grabbed the other's hand and forcibly snatched the paper from his hand, and handed it to Lin Yan. "It's time to let us know your real purpose!"
"Oh, you're back!" Obadiah and the villagers all looked as if they had seen a ghost. "Just now I asked the prophet about you, and he said that he saw with his own eyes that you were cursed and killed."
Sadie walked up to the prophet and punched him in the stomach. Then she spat and pointed at his face which was twisted in pain and said, "It's this bastard curse that's trying to kill us, but this sinister and cunning villain."
Looking at the whispering crowd below, Arthur said loudly in a voice that drowned out everyone else's: "Jamie, read us what's on the paper."
Lin Yan nodded and read aloud in front of the villagers:
“Roanoke Fuel Company Agreement. Party A: Roanoke Fuel Company, Annesburg, New Hanover, U.S.A. Party B: Residents of the Village of Butcher Creek, New Hanover, U.S.A.
In accordance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Party B formally announces the following matters and promises not to discuss this matter again in the future.
'We hereby release and discharge Roanoke Fuel from any and all liability and damages arising from the contamination of the water supply discovered.'"
"Have you finished reading?" Seeing that Lin Yan stopped talking, Obadiah asked.
"It's over." Lin Yan nodded, looking at the unusually calm crowd, and asked curiously: "Why didn't you react at all after hearing this? The curse on you was caused by this guy and the company behind him. He just wanted you to sign this settlement agreement."
"Is this what is written on this piece of paper?" Obadiah scratched his head. "I can only understand part of it. As for what it means when put together, I don't understand."
I was wondering why there was no response, it seems like you didn't understand...
Lin Yan's mouth twitched slightly. He didn't blame these people for not being able to understand what was written in the agreement. After drinking polluted water for a long time, their ability to understand could no longer be measured by the intelligence level of normal people.
"Since you can't understand, let's try another way." Arthur said, taking out the bottle filled with sewage from his bag. "The water in this bottle was filled in the mine. The water in the mine was actually contaminated by some minerals in the cave. The contaminated water leaked into the river, and you drank the river water, so you got sick."
The villagers, led by Obadiah, looked at the bottle in Arthur's hand, then looked at the prophet who had given up struggling, and asked the latter: "Is what this cowboy said true?"
"Lies, all lies." Taking advantage of the fact that the villagers did not understand the content of the agreement, the prophet said in his dying struggle: "I have told you not to believe the words of outsiders, have you ignored it? They are all demons in disguise, and they are trying to seduce you!"
"That's enough!" Arthur looked at the clown coldly. "I'll give you one last chance. You have to tell them what's in the bottle yourself. If you still refuse to admit it, I don't mind pouring it into your mouth."
