Chapter 9 Warcraft Forest
The next day, in the hazy morning, a horse-drawn cart was traveling on the road outside the city. The wheels rolled over the light snow on the road, leaving a clearly visible mark. The occasional stones caused the body of the cart to vibrate, and the occasional ups and downs were not a good experience for the passengers.
However, even so, Ina above was in a particularly happy mood.
The magnificent black city wall gradually receded and shrank behind her. A scene completely different from the slums and buildings in the city appeared before her eyes. Even though the villages and towns outside the city became bleak due to the severe winter, the white-haired girl still felt more and more excited.
This was her first time leaving the city, the first time since she could remember, and everything she saw around her was new to her.
"Maybe... I should have taken her out of the city earlier." Rick, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the cart and wearing a brown and white bear fur coat, took a look and looked around at the interested Ina, and couldn't help but sigh in his heart.
…………
The hunting location is far away from the city. The environment that human civilization can influence is not very vast. When the time comes, outside the villages and towns, there will be endless wilderness and dense jungle.
Some wild animals are active around the village.
However, in order to find more prey, hunters still need to go to more primitive and sparsely populated mountains and hills.
And at the borders of those civilizations, even the nearest villages are still very far away.
This means that hunters, adventurers, or now Rick and Ina must all walk to the uninhabited mountains and forests.
It is not a wise choice to ride a horse in the primitive jungle without a servant to lead the horse, not to mention that the horse is pulling a cart.
Ina carried the leather bag that Rick had asked her to prepare in advance, which contained various camping tools.
Because they were walking, even though both of them were extraordinary adventurers, it still greatly increased the time required. No one could guarantee whether they would hunt enough prey first or the scorching sun would set below the horizon first.
For Rick, it was easy for him to survive the night when the temperature was more than ten degrees below zero just by wearing thick clothes, but it was not necessarily the case for Ina.
"Is this the hunting location?" Ina still looked excited, but also a little nervous.
"No, it's on the other side of several mountains." Rick pointed to the high mountains covered with snow not far away. "Although it's still early, the daylight hours in late winter are also short. In order to prevent the low temperature after sunset and unnecessary accidents, Ina, we will head to the target mountain area as soon as possible."
Rick pointed at his own body again, his tone suddenly becoming serious: "Manage the magic power in your body, just like you practice every day, let it strengthen your physical abilities smoothly and evenly, and at the same time stabilize your breathing, little guy, this will help you to call them more easily."
"This is the first lesson of hunting. You must efficiently maintain your body in a low-level enhanced state for as long as possible, including your vision and hearing."
Ina nodded. It was not difficult to do. After all, this was the basics that Rick taught her.
Then he followed Rick into the woods covered with silver frost, lost himself in the white snow and many slightly bleak trees, and headed towards the mountains.
The edge of the restricted area of the Warcraft Forest in Earl Xroy Ridge is the hunting location that Rick is considering this time.
The restricted area is only relative, and it naturally cannot correspond to professionals and magicians such as Rick and Ina.
This is a forbidden place for mortals!
This is the territory of the King of Warcraft, which is different from the captive hunting grounds attached to the nobles' manors and the forests that ordinary hunters rely on.
As for Warcraft, apart from orcs, they are currently the biggest trouble and threat to mankind. They are like ordinary animals, or were once ordinary animals, and are extremely widely distributed.
At the same time, as the darlings of nature, like the dragons, angels, and Titans in ancient legends, they can use magic and have bodies nurtured by magic.
A second or third level monster could easily tear apart or shatter the plate armor of a fully armed orthodox knight. Even a small hare, as long as it was a hail of monsters, the stones it rolled up were enough to pierce a human skull.
As for high-level monsters, they can no longer be described as "horrible" or "dangerous" - they are disasters.
As their ranks rise, their spirituality approaches that of orcs, and they can command a region of magical beasts. To them, the walls of small cities are like weeds that bend in the wind, and the magic they stir up is enough to burn down the city.
In order to avoid massive casualties and losses, the kingdom even dispatched troops and set up special disaster financial expenditures to hire teams of adventurers to clean up.
Of course, this financial expenditure is not only aimed at high-level monsters.
Some magical beasts that reproduce quickly, in large numbers, and frequently attack villages and towns are the most troublesome affairs for local nobles and regional governors.
Many times, this special expenditure of the kingdom will be used to alleviate the clearing expenses in these areas, which is part of the work that Rick has taken on, as well as the source of income - the guild bounty.
The difference in terrain became more and more obvious. The woods were completely different from the plains and grasslands, and the tangled branches of the shrubs were covered with snow-white branches.
Even in March, the ice and snow had not melted in Earl Cathroy Ridge, and pure white covered the vast world in front of Ina.
If it weren't for the white clouds still moving, the "puff" sound of their feet on the thin snow, and the whistling of the cold wind beside their ears, Ina would have thought that the world had stopped in an instant when she hadn't noticed.
On the snowy mountain road where white, brown and black were interwoven, the two small black dots gradually slowed down their pace.
The two of them marched in the form of a front and a back team, with Rick in front and Ina behind.
Ina kept the bow half-drawn, and her fingers gripping the bowstring indicated the girl's nervousness and caution. In contrast, Rick was as relaxed as if he was on a trip. The snow half a shoe high under his feet and the steep mountain road were as if they were flat ground.
The two of them seemed particularly out of place in the same place.
"Is this really an area where monsters appear?" Ina raised her hand to pin another snow rabbit that jumped out of the snow pile to the ground and couldn't help but ask Rick a similar question.
After being enhanced by magic, her vision, hearing, and perception were far superior to those of ordinary hunters. Ina skillfully twisted the rabbit's neck, pulled out the arrow, and hung the harvest in the backpack behind her.
This was already the fourth rabbit that had been hunted. There was nothing else, and it was difficult for the girl to maintain her necessary nervousness and vigilance.
"Hunting is always a monotonous and boring job. It is common to get nothing. Now it's good enough. Having enough patience makes a good hunter..." Before he finished his words of advice, Rick's eyes turned cold and a cyclone of fighting spirit was already wrapped around his hands.
The next second after the girl picked up the prey, the silence around her made the girl relax her last tense nerves!
It seemed as if everything had been planned, and just like the notes written by many experienced adventurers.
The moment she let down her guard, the treetops above her head shook violently, and the object inside suddenly fell from above Ina's head like an ambush prey and a long-awaited hunter.
