These words startled Ida. She nodded subtly and said, "Watch your headset."

She then left the clinic.

……

Ida's figure quickly disappeared from their sight.

Jill looked away and said to Shen Ye with dissatisfaction, "You should have tried to persuade her to stay. It's too dangerous for her to be alone."

"Don't worry, she's not an ordinary woman, she'll take good care of herself." Shen Ye said, taking out his gun holster and handing Jill a rifle and some ammunition.

“We should go find Brad,” he added.

Jill could only nod, pick up her gun, and go out with Shen Ye.

Since Jill and Brad had previously exchanged locations over the phone, and Jill was very familiar with Raccoon City, finding him wasn't difficult. It didn't take long for them to meet Brad at the designated location.

That was in front of a bar.

Seeing Jill and Shen Ye appear together, Brad forced a smile onto his haggard face: "That's great, you're both alright."

He had heard noises on Jill's phone earlier and had been worried about her safety. Now that he saw Jill standing in front of him unharmed, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

"Looks like you haven't been doing too well these past few days, Brad. Your face has gotten so thin!" Shen Ye stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder. Although their relationship wasn't as good as his relationship with Chris, they were still acquaintances, so he made a joke.

Brad gave a wry smile: "I haven't had a proper rest these past two days. That monster in the black trench coat has been chasing me the whole time."

Although he is usually timid and cowardly, he is quite capable to be a member of the STARS team, and he survived being chased by the Nemesis for two days and two nights.

Perhaps it was because they couldn't get rid of him that the trackers changed their target to Jill.

"Do you know why that monster is chasing us?" Jill asked, frowning, when Brad mentioned the Tracker.

“I’m not quite sure either,” Brad shook his head.

At this moment, Shen Ye suddenly said, "Guys, although I know you have a lot of questions, this is not the place to chat."

He pointed to the zombies separated by barriers around them, who were eyeing them menacingly.

Jill nodded: "Shen, you're right. We should go somewhere else. How about we have a drink first?"

She glanced at the bar behind Brad, then pushed open the door and went inside.

There were a few survivors inside the bar. When they saw them come in, they were startled at first, but after realizing they were human, they relaxed and put away their weapons.

After bypassing the survivors, the three of them went to the bar. Jill casually grabbed a bottle of whiskey and three glasses, poured the drinks into them, and placed them in front of them.

Shen Ye picked up the glass in front of him, smelled it, but didn't drink it. He simply couldn't accept this foreign liquor with its peculiar aroma and taste.

Jill, however, acted much more aggressively. She downed the drink in her glass in one gulp, and immediately her face flushed red from the alcohol.

But she clearly had a good tolerance for alcohol, and poured herself another glass. This time, she didn't drink it all at once, but took a small sip.

Although Shen Ye wanted to tell her that drinking in this situation might cause problems, he also knew that Jill hadn't been doing well these past few days, and that moderate drinking could help her relieve stress.

Sure enough, Jill's furrowed brows relaxed considerably, and she looked at Shen Ye with somewhat unfocused eyes, lost in thought.

At this point, Brad, who had also finished his drink, began to tell Jill some of his knowledge about the Tracker, especially how he could always hear the monster shouting "STARS" from its lipless mouth whenever they encountered it. He speculated that the monster was after him and Jill.

"Damn it, I shouldn't have joined STARS," Brad said, then cursed again.

Jill didn't immediately respond to her old friend's complaint. After finishing the rest of her whiskey, she said, "It's too late to say anything now, Brad. We just have to face it."

She then looked at Shen Ye and said, "Shen, you heard what Brad said too. You must leave us."

"Are you worried about implicating me?" Shen Ye asked.

Jill nodded: "I don't want you to get into danger because of me."

“If I were afraid of danger, I wouldn’t have come to you, Jill.” Shen Ye shook his head, pouring the wine from his glass onto the ground; he ultimately didn’t drink it.

Shen Ye's words deeply moved Jill, her eyes becoming even more dreamy, and a urge to tease him rose within her. However, after glancing at Brad beside her, she shook her head with some regret.

Chapter 26! Warehouse Building

The impromptu drinking session didn't last long before it ended. The three of them composed themselves and prepared to leave the bar.

Before leaving, Jill tried to persuade the survivors to come with her, but no one agreed.

The survivors gave a simple reason: the outside world is full of man-eating monsters, so it's better to stay here and wait for the army to rescue them than to venture out and risk their lives.

Jill stopped insisting, left some bullets behind, and left the bar with Shen Ye and the others.

……

Shortly after leaving the bar, they began looking for a building that was tall enough or sturdy enough, because only buildings that met these two conditions could support the landing of rescue helicopters.

Jill and Brad had been around Raccoon City for years and knew the terrain very well. They quickly identified a target not far from the bar: a large warehouse building that met all their requirements in terms of both height and sturdiness.

But Jill and Brad clearly didn't realize that "not far" referred to their usual perception when traveling by car; on foot, it was a rather long journey.

Especially in the current situation, they need to spend even more time.

Several hours had passed by the time they arrived at the warehouse.

Of course, they spent most of their time dodging zombies, and very little time actually traveling.

The three of them were not at the front door of the warehouse, but at the back door, where there was only a small iron door that could only accommodate one person at a time.

The iron gate was locked, but Jill was an expert at picking locks, so it was no problem for her. She opened the gate in less than ten seconds.

“You’re more talented at being a thief than a cop, Jill,” Shen Ye remarked.

Jill just smiled and didn't say anything.

They entered through the iron gate one by one, with Shen Ye at the front. Just as he entered, before he could even see what was inside, he heard the sound of guns being cocked.

Shen Ye recognized the voice all too well. He immediately dodged to the side and shouted, "Take cover! There are armed men!"

Jill and Brad were both elite police officers. As soon as Shen Ye spoke, they spread out to the left and right, looking for advantageous terrain.

However, after the sound of the trigger being pulled, no gunshot was fired. Clearly, the owner of the gun had realized that it was a human who had entered.

"Come out, I won't shoot." A male voice rang out from inside the warehouse.

Shen Ye turned his head and gave Jill a wink, then peeked out from behind the cover and saw a short, stout middle-aged white man standing next to a truck, holding a pistol with the muzzle pointing downwards, as if to prove that he meant no harm.

Even so, Shen Ye still didn't stand up. He shouted at the other person, "Could you reset the hammer of your pistol first?"

"You should know that this distance is very dangerous when facing a pistol that is already in the firing position."

“Sure, that’s a very reasonable request.” The middle-aged man responded loudly, then raised his pistol, reset the hammer in front of Shen Ye, and turned off the safety.

His actions made Shen Ye feel somewhat embarrassed. He immediately stood up from behind the cover and said, "I'm sorry, I was overthinking it."

“That’s normal. I would be worried too if I were in your shoes.” The middle-aged man was surprisingly understanding.

Are you all alone here?

While Shen Ye was talking to the middle-aged man, Jill and Brad also came out from their cover. Seeing that only the middle-aged man was there, Jill asked...

“If it counts as a person, then there are two.” The middle-aged man pointed to one of the trucks in the warehouse. Inside the truck’s cab, a zombie was baring its teeth and claws at them, but it looked somewhat comical due to the window.

“Well, looks like you’re not lonely.” Jill shrugged.

Then she added, "It's too dangerous to stay with zombies. Why don't you come with us and leave this place?"

"Leave here?" the middle-aged man asked. "How do you plan to leave?"

“Let’s go to the top floor. Jill said it’s incredibly big there, with a flat and sturdy rooftop that can accommodate several helicopters,” Shen Ye interjected. “And it’s high enough that rescue helicopters can spot us more easily.”

"In fact, it can accommodate not only helicopters but also trucks, because it's a parking lot." The middle-aged man had probably worked here before and was very familiar with the place.

“That sounds even better,” Jill laughed. “So, would you like to come with us?”

The middle-aged man shook his head: "I don't want to leave."

"Why?" Jill asked. "Are you also waiting for military reinforcements?"

“I never expected anything from them.” The middle-aged man continued to shake his head. “I just want to stay here, in my car, alone.”

As he said this, a hint of sadness flashed in his eyes. He then turned and climbed into the cargo bed of his truck. As he closed the cargo bed door, he said to Jill, "Listen, ma'am, if you really want to go to the top floor, you'd better take the stairs, because the elevators are full of monsters."

After he finished speaking, he closed the cargo box door completely.

Hearing the sound of a lock clicking shut coming from inside the cargo container, Jill sighed helplessly and said, "Why would they do that?"

“Not everyone has the courage to face danger; avoiding danger is also a survival instinct.” Shen Ye patted her shoulder, then glanced at Brad waving at them in the distance, and continued, “Alright, Jill, let’s go. Brad should have found the way to the rooftop parking lot.”

Jill could only nod and walk with Shen Ye toward Brad.

Brad discovered two paths: one was the stairs, and the other was, of course, the elevator.

Shen Ye first checked the elevator and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was still working and had not been damaged in any way.

He immediately forgot what the middle-aged man had said. Who would take the stairs when there's an elevator?

Jill thought the same thing. She was tired enough after a night's work and didn't want to waste her energy climbing stairs. She decisively pressed the elevator open button and then took a few steps back with Shen Ye and Brad.

With a click, the elevator doors opened, and the zombies inside rushed out.

Because they took a few steps back, they had enough distance for all the zombies to rush out of the elevator. Only after the last zombie came out did they shoot it and approach to enter the elevator.

Just as Shen Ye was about to press the floor number for the top floor, a loud bang suddenly rang out, accompanied by a man's scream.
