"What happened?" Wade paused for a moment, then walked over and asked.

He examined it closely and found that the magic runes on the vanishing cabinet remained unchanged, without any defects.

"I don't know what's wrong, it works sometimes and it doesn't."

In front of Theo was a parchment listing the items that were passed each time, and whether the pass was successful or not.

"We conducted fifty experiments in total, succeeding thirty-seven times and failing thirteen times, which means we failed about once or twice every five experiments."

Theo's notes were very detailed. Wade observed that the number of failures did not increase with the increase of the object's magical power; it was essentially a completely random probability.

"The good thing is that even if it fails, the teleported items or creatures are not damaged; they are just like being locked in a cabinet for a while."

Theo looked at Wade and asked softly, "Is there anything that hasn't been fixed yet? Maybe we can ask Professor Morrie."

Wade shook his head: "I'm sure it's fixed. I even made some improvements based on Mr. Scamander's method...of course..."

He said with some frustration, "Perhaps there's something I haven't noticed, or maybe they're not very compatible... If I can't find the problem myself, I'll have to ask the professor..."

Perhaps we must restore all magic to its original state?

But Newt's method is definitely better; it doesn't require any protagonist's halo. Wade can also judge this using his own magical knowledge.

He examined the vanishing cabinet repeatedly, but still couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Consulting Professor Morrie is one option, but Vader doesn't want to do it if possible.

Just like students in ordinary schools wouldn't go and ask their teachers, "What's the coolest pose I should use when I skip class by climbing over the wall?"

Seeing Wade deep in thought, Theo, though not understanding what Wade could see in the black cabinet, quietly stayed by his side, thinking about tonight's experiment and seeing if he could figure out any patterns.

Suddenly, he noticed a problem.

“Wade,” Theo said, “you said you improved this vanishing cabinet…”

“Yes,” Wade sighed.

"Then..." Theo hesitated, unsure if his guess was correct: "Has the other cabinet also been improved?"

Wade suddenly turned to look at him, then smacked his forehead hard.

"I can't believe I'm so stupid... Theo, you're a genius!"

He finally understood why he had failed!

Chapter 130 The Witcher and Mass Cheating

After discovering the cause, Wade couldn't wait to improve the other cabinet as well.

However, considering that he had to go to class the next day, he could only obediently go back to his dormitory to sleep.

The morning started with a transformation class.

Transfiguration is a magic that Vader can quickly master without using his eyes.

Perhaps because he had been practicing Occlumency, Vader's thinking was much clearer than his previous self, the images formed in his mind were more concrete and clear, and his magical guidance was smooth and stable.

This allowed him to succeed in Transfiguration within one or two attempts, even in the early stages of learning the art.

Moreover, Lupin was also an excellent Transfiguration teacher.

His three former companions all successfully became Animagus, and his own understanding and mastery of metamorphic theory is enough to call him a master.

His guidance to Vader was always insightful and to the point, and Vader's learning of Transfiguration progressed rapidly.

It was also Lupin's assessment that he was now at a level where he could begin preparing to become an Animagus.

The first thing is to keep a fresh mandrake leaf in your mouth for a whole month, without swallowing it or taking it out.

This process is undoubtedly difficult because people eat and drink every day; they also chew and swallow unconsciously while sleeping.

So although it's said to be a month, it's not uncommon for this process to be repeated several times or even a dozen times. Those who can't persevere will naturally have to give up.

However, the mandrakes are currently all seedlings. Professor Sprout said that it will take at least another month before the harvested leaves can be used.

All he can do now is continue to practice and improve his Transfiguration skills.

Because Wade's learning progress far exceeded the course content, Professor McGonagall granted him special permission to practice alone during class. She would come over to provide guidance a few times during her rounds.

The Transfiguration class ended relatively early, and then Vader went to the Astronomy Tower to continue learning bio-alchemy from Professor Mori.

As the tutoring session was nearing its end, one of the chess pieces finally moved.

The white knight circled the chessboard a few times, drew his longsword, and brandished it as if fighting an unseen enemy.

Then it stood with its sword in both hands and said in a deep voice: "Evil is evil, there is no distinction between big, medium and small!"

Professor Morrie chuckled, "Looks like a very unique fellow... What kind of ideas did you give it?"

Upon hearing this, the white knight suddenly raised his head.

"Based on my first impression of you, I don't like your attitude, but I will listen to what you have to say."

"I had read a short story in a magazine before, and I found it very interesting, so I came up with a similar idea for it," Wade said.

"Interesting... Most people only tell the pieces what to do, and their personalities are given unintentionally."

Professor Morrie then asked the chess piece with great interest, "Are you a knight with the eight virtues?"

The white knight was silent for a moment before saying seriously, "No, I am not a knight, but a witcher!"

"A witcher?" Professor Morrie almost laughed out loud. "You want to hunt demons and vampires?"

"Go ahead and laugh at me; I know how difficult it is for people to understand each other."

The white knight said solemnly, "You may find it hard to believe, but even in the sunlit places, there are shadows that cannot be seen."

“What if I let you fight against the opposing pieces?” Professor Morrie asked.

The White Knight glanced at the mindless black pieces, shook his head, and said, "I will not harm innocent people!"

"But you are a pawn, this is your mission."

Professor Morrie actually started arguing with it.

The White Knight disagreed, saying, "I don't agree with the mission you've imposed on me. I know what I have to do... even if my path is destined to be lonely."

Seeing that Professor Morrie was having a great time, Wade decided to leave the chess piece behind, said goodbye, and departed.

The afternoon class was Defense Against the Dark Arts.

“I heard from Ryan and Harry that their Defense Against the Dark Arts class yesterday was a disaster.”

During lunch, Michael recounted the news he had heard from the Umbrella House: "Professor Lockhart took a cage of Cornish elves, made a mess of the classroom, and then ran away."

“Not only that,” Padma leaned closer. “Several people have been bitten or scratched, and Mrs. Pomfrey is furious.”

Lisa said incredulously, "I heard that before class, they actually did a test! It was all about Lockhart's favorite color, Lockhart's achievements, and things like that."

Anthony Goldstein quietly gathered the second-year Ravenclaw students into a small room behind the Great Hall and slipped each of them a note.

He said, "Honestly, I think the questions Professor Lockhart asked are worthless, and there's no need to read the book about them."

"These are the questions and answers I found out. Take a look at them beforehand and just get by in class."

"By the way, don't take out your cheat sheets during the exam. After all, he's a professor; he might have some way to detect cheating."

“I understand.” Terry unfolded the note and looked at it, saying, “I really didn’t want to try to please him this way.”

“It’s still necessary to make a good first impression,” Anthony advised him. “After all, he’s a professor, and sometimes we need to get approval notes from him. And if your grades are too bad, he might put you in solitary confinement.”

Terry fell silent.

A group of students looked at the slips of paper, muttering to themselves as they quickly memorized the answers.

While Ravenclaw students don't have photographic memories, very few have poor memories either.

Some students read it once and remembered most of it. Since they weren't aiming for a perfect score, they put the note down.

Some students—especially most of the girls—watched it two or three times.

Wade was also silently memorizing the answers.

He wasn't interested in Lockhart, but he also knew that it would be easy to get the permit for the restricted area from that man.

So Anthony is right, making a good first impression is indeed very important.

However, you can't get a perfect score.

If the score is too high, the professor might think I'm some kind of fanatical admirer, and then drag me up to perform ridiculous plays in every class. That would be a real problem.

After finishing the recitation, the students all turned over their notes to avoid being caught cheating by the professor.

When they arrived at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, the Slytherin students were already inside. The Ravenclaws had barely settled in when Lockhart, beaming, entered carrying a stack of papers.

“Very good, children, it seems you are all eager to start class. And you have all bought my complete works, so I’m sure you have seen my various glorious deeds in them.”

Lockhart said in a high-pitched and cheerful voice:

"Perhaps some students might think—"

He mimicked a little girl's high-pitched voice, saying, "Oh, when will I be able to speak like the great Professor Lockhart—a third-class recipient of the Order of Merlin, an honorary member of the League Against the Dark Arts, and a five-time winner of the Wizarding Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award—"

He flashed what he called his "most charming smile" and said, "—So amazing, huh?"

“Don’t rush, children. All I can say is, don’t rush,” Lockhart encouraged. “As long as you study as hard as I do, you will one day become great wizards.”
