Hagrid had just entered the Forbidden Forest, at least a mile away from where the firelight was, so there was no danger whatsoever.
Wade also rode his broom into the Forbidden Forest, pulling himself up high and using his excellent eyesight to navigate through the black canopy.
Ahead, Hagrid, clutching the barrel of wine and calling "Norber," charged headlong into the Forbidden Forest toward the direction from which the firelight was coming, his hounds close behind. Harry, seeing that Hagrid was unharmed, had already flown ahead toward the dragon.
They moved quickly and soon arrived at a cave. Wade saw Harry standing to one side, his face pale, while Norbert, as big as a house, lay on the ground with huge, gruesome wounds on his eyes and chest, from which bright red blood gushed.
"Nober—"
Hagrid cried out in anguish, rushed over and embraced his baby dragon, trembling as he checked to see if it was still breathing.
A few sparks, as if about to go out, shot out from Norbert's nose.
"Don't be afraid, my sweet baby... Mommy will treat you right away—"
Hagrid's hands trembled as he rummaged through his pockets for healing potions.
Vader remained in the air, scanning his surroundings warily. The dark forest was silent; the roar of the fire dragon had silenced all other sounds, leaving only the wind, Hagrid's howls, and the crackling of dry branches burning in the fire.
Vader fired two red spark signals into the sky and cast detection spells around the area before landing.
Hagrid was pouring white peony extract onto Norber's wound, but the blood, like a faucet turned on, quickly washed the medicine away.
"These are wounds caused by dark magic; ordinary healing potions won't work."
Vader said, pointing his wand at Norber's wound and whispering a counter-spell—luckily he had learned it from Remus just two days ago—and half a minute later, the bleeding finally stopped.
Hagrid watched anxiously, only daring to ask now, "Is he better?"
“No,” Wade said. “That’s all I can do. The rest will require more specialized personnel. But at least… it… uh, his life should be saved.”
“Thank you, Wade… thank you so much!” Hagrid’s tears streamed down his face. “If Norber had died, it would have been like my heart had been ripped out.”
He held tightly to the ferocious head of the Norwegian Spinosaurus, whose eyes were wide open, watching Hagrid wail and spitting out hot gas from its nostrils.
"What happened here?" A cold, seemingly angry voice rang out nearby, turning Harry, who had been in a daze, pale.
Snape, clad in a long black robe, emerged from the darkness. His gaze fixed on each person as if he wanted to drain their blood. The black robe billowed behind him like a dark cloud, making it seem as if he had flown rather than run towards them.
Immediately afterward, a spotted cat leaped down from a branch, landing as Professor McGonagall in her pajamas. Looking at the scene, she cried out in alarm, "An injured fire dragon! What happened?"
Before Harry could answer, more people appeared—Professor Quirrell, stumbling through the woods while clutching his scarf, and Dumbledore, who suddenly appeared with a burst of firelight.
In a daze, this scene was very similar to Halloween, except that Professor Flitwick was missing and Dumbledore was in his place.
only……
Harry's body trembled slightly, and he instinctively took two steps toward Hagrid.
"Someone has hurt Norbert, Dumbledore!" Hagrid pulled out a large handkerchief to wipe his tears, and said in a sob, "Please save him, the boy is badly injured!"
Dumbledore leaned down to look at Norbert. The wounds, clearly inflicted by dark magic, showed signs of closing up. Dumbledore was only slightly surprised, but quickly realized which of the three people present was capable of doing so.
“A very beautiful Dark Magic Counterspell, Mr. Grey,” Dumbledore praised.
Wade bowed slightly but did not speak.
“Don’t worry, Hagrid,” Dumbledore said gently. “Madame Pomfrey will heal her. Minerva, please find a more suitable place for the child.”
"--OK."
Professor McGonagall was staring sternly at the two students when she heard Dumbledore's instructions. She then used the Levitation Charm to take Norbert away.
“Slow down, Professor McGonagall,” Hagrid couldn’t help but remind him. “He’s still a baby! It’s all my fault for not taking good care of him…”
"Private ownership of dragons is prohibited," Snape said ominously from the side. "Hagrid, I thought you knew that."
Hagrid bit his lip, his massive body looking pitiful.
“We’ll talk about that later,” Dumbledore said calmly. “Harry, Wade, what are you two doing here? Running out of the castle at night and coming to the dangerous Forbidden Forest is not a wise move.”
"I couldn't sleep at night, so I stayed in my dorm... looking at the stars and stuff." Harry suddenly stammered, "I accidentally saw Hagrid walk into the Forbidden Forest... then I heard the roar of a dragon and saw firelight... I was worried something had happened to Hagrid, so I flew over to check on him... and then Wade came too..."
He omitted the fact that the two had violated curfew and been flying around the school.
"Did you see what injured the dragon?" Dumbledore asked.
Harry shuddered, seemingly still frightened. Wade said, "No. It was already like this when we arrived."
Dumbledore nodded, looking at the pool of blood at the scene, seemingly lost in thought, while the others held their breath and waited.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from inside the cave. A pure white, holy creature emerged from within, its entire body radiating a faint light. Its long legs limped, and silvery-white blood dripped down its body.
"Merlin!" Hagrid cried out in alarm, "That man dared to harm a unicorn!"
The unicorn curtsied to Dumbledore, then leaned close to Hagrid, seemingly seeking his help.
Dumbledore used a spell to heal the unicorn's wounds and said to Hagrid, "Take it to Madam Pomfrey too. Take Wade and Harry with you—I think they need a tranquilizer."
Hagrid nodded, picked up the unicorn without hesitation, and said, "Come with me, children—thank you for your concern for my safety. But I must say—this is too dangerous, really very dangerous. Don't run around like that again."
Harry responded with "uh-huhs" and turned around to see Snape frowning, seemingly objecting to Dumbledore's nonchalant way of letting them go. But Dumbledore said, "Severus, Quirinus, could you please patrol around the Forbidden Forest tonight? Perhaps the one who injured the dragon is still wandering around... Of course, for safety's sake, you'd better not separate..."
The dense forest blocked Harry's view.
Chapter 100 Infirmary
Lady Pomfrey's healing magic was superb, and the medical room was well-stocked with medicine. After a few bottles of potions, the dragon and unicorn, who had been in pain from their wounds, calmed down and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
Professor McGonagall prepared to temporarily house the dragon in the Quidditch pitch, busily casting spells around it to prevent students from accidentally wandering in and being harmed. Meanwhile, the unicorn was able to rest near Professor Sprout's greenhouse, where the plump witch happily prepared plenty of berries and fresh oat grass for it.
Other professors also rushed over upon hearing the news, making Hogwarts so lively for the first time late at night.
"Fire Dragon!"
A strange little old man rushed to Norbert's side with shining eyes. He was covered in wounds, and both legs and one arm were wooden prosthetics. At this moment, he used his only remaining hand to stroke Norbert's dark wings and said excitedly, "Hagrid, you should have told me you had a dragon!"
Professor McGonagall, having set up the barrier, walked over and, upon hearing this, said angrily with a stern face, "Professor Kettleburn, keeping dragons privately is a serious illegal act!"
The fury that everyone at Hogwarts feared seemed to have no effect on the little old man. He smiled slyly and said, "Don't be so rigid, Minerva! Who illegally keeps dragons? It was just a wild young dragon from the Forbidden Forest that wandered into Hogwarts because it was hungry. We, the kind gamekeepers, simply fed it a little food! It's not illegal at all..."
"Oh...you can do that too!" Hagrid exclaimed, clapping his hands in sudden realization.
"Please stop encouraging illegal activities, Professor Kettleburn! Don't forget you're still on probation!" Professor McGonagall, who had been quite serious, started laughing as she spoke.
“Yes, yes, sixty-two probationary periods. But it doesn’t matter, I’m retiring soon anyway.” Professor Kettleburn shrugged, then leaned closer to the dragon and asked, “Does this kid have a name, Hagrid?”
“His name is Norbert!” Hagrid said proudly. “I saw him come out of his shell with my own eyes!”
"—He?" Professor Kettleburn paused, looked at it carefully again, and then laughed, "It should be 'she'... It's a little girl!"
"What?" Hagrid exclaimed in surprise, and stepped closer, while Professor Kettleburn began to teach him how to distinguish the sex of a baby dragon.
"In that case, wouldn't it be inappropriate to call her Norber?" Hagrid quickly switched into "silly dad with a daughter" mode, seemingly worried that his precious daughter would be discriminated against because of her name.
“How about Norbert?” Professor Kettleburn suggested. “It sounds like a girl’s name, and it’s quite cute.”
"Oh, you two, I've been looking all over for you!" Madam Pomfrey suddenly appeared, staring at Wade and Harry hurriedly saying, "Come with me—Dumbledore said you might need a tranquilizer?"
“No, we weren’t frightened,” Wade said.
But Mrs. Pomfrey wouldn't listen. She took the two of them to the school infirmary, shoved a bottle of sedative into each of their hands without a word, and said, "Drink your medicine and go to bed early. There are only a few hours left until dawn."
When Wade looked at it, he realized it was the potion he had brewed himself!
"Is Dumbledore back?" Harry asked hastily as she was about to leave.
“How could I know that, child?” said Mrs. Pomfrey.
“But you said—he told you we need tranquilizers?” Harry pressed on stubbornly.
"Dumbledore sent his Patronus to inform me."
What is a guardian angel?
"Drink the potion, and sleep, child."
Under Mrs. Pomfrey's rather oppressive smiling gaze, the two had no choice but to drink the tranquilizers in one gulp, and drowsiness quickly overcame them.
……
The next morning, although no one had deliberately publicized it, it seemed that the entire school knew what had happened the night before. They all rushed to see the dragon and the unicorn. After wandering around, the SSC members learned that Wade and Harry had also been involved, and then went to the school infirmary to find them.
"I heard someone attacked a dragon!" Hermione rushed in, asking worriedly, "Are you all alright...did you run into that guy?"
"Never mind the dragon for now, I—" Harry looked around and said, "I have a secret to tell you about the attacker from last night—"
“Wait, Harry.” Michael suddenly interrupted him, walked to the door, looked outside, and then closed the door.
Ryan realized what was happening and went to the window to make sure no one was eavesdropping outside.
Wade asked, "Did you see that guy?"
“Yes, I got there a little earlier than you. I saw what that person looked like, he was…” Harry couldn’t help but shudder and said, “Professor Quirrell.”
The room fell into a deathly silence.
Harry, somewhat anxious, hurriedly said, "You might think I'm lying—but I'm not! Actually, I overheard it several weeks ago—in the woods! On the day of the Quidditch match, the day Gryffindor won! I heard Snape threatening Quirrell to cooperate with him in stealing the Philosopher's Stone hidden on the fourth floor! Last night, they were also the first to arrive in the Forbidden Forest!"
Theo asked, "I heard that Professor McGonagall was also there first?"
“You weren’t there, so you didn’t see it—Professor McGonagall arrived still in her pajamas! She was clearly woken up by the dragon!” Harry tried to explain his reasoning: “But Snape and Quirrell… they were fully dressed, they might have been wandering in the Forbidden Forest before, and even attacked Norbert and the unicorn! It was only when Hagrid arrived that they had to run away, and then pretended to be woken up and ran over, but they didn’t have time to change into proper clothes!”
No one spoke for a moment.
In the silence, Neville looked around and, trying to make conversation, said, "Harry, I've noticed you've been particularly enthusiastic about Professor Quirrell lately... I thought you'd grown to like him a lot..."
