Warhammer: The Time Traveler

Chapter 94 The Other Side

Chapter 94 The Other Side (First Update)
The moment they passed through the dimensional rift, the members of Mann's team experienced the most bizarre and indescribable feeling of their lives.

It felt as if I had been thrown into a fully powered industrial-grade washing machine by an irresistible force, and I was completely disoriented, spinning around.

Then, an even more terrifying sensation struck. Their bodies seemed to be completely torn apart and pulverized by an invisible force. Every cell and every nerve signal was broken down into the most basic particles and mixed together.

Consciousness floated in pure chaos and nothingness, almost completely dissipating.

At this critical point, the force suddenly reversed, reshaping and re-forming their "crushed" existence.

"Uh……!"

"Hold……"

"Oh shit……"

The process of regaining consciousness was accompanied by suppressed groans and low curses.

Without exception, everyone lost their balance and was unable to maintain their standing posture.

Mann slammed one knee heavily onto the cold, hard ground with a dull thud. He used his modified left arm to support his body and prevent himself from collapsing completely.

Dorio also knelt on one knee, his bronze face taut with muscles, and his enhanced body trembling slightly.

Falco braced himself on the ground with both hands, his sunglasses askew to one side, and he was breathing heavily.

Pila collapsed to the ground, her slender mechanical arm lying limply outstretched.

Rebecca lay sprawled on the ground, her eyes unfocused, her chest heaving violently, as if her internal organs had all shifted out of place.

Only Mowell, whose body had undergone targeted and in-depth optimization by Chen Yu, had a much higher tolerance for spatial disturbances than her companions.

She only staggered a couple of steps before quickly regaining her balance.

Almost the instant she regained her footing, her enhanced sensory system was fully activated, and the cold, composite optical lenses sharply scanned the unfamiliar surroundings.

The armor plates on the outside of his arms slid open silently, and the sonic blades, shimmering with a faint blue energy light, were not fully extended, but were already in a pre-activated state, ready to be activated at any time. His whole body was like a fully drawn bow, exuding an aura of vigilance that kept strangers at bay.

Chen Yu's previous mission briefing gave them an extremely high assessment of the dangers of "another world".

Having just recovered from that near-death teleportation experience, their strong survival instinct and vigilance against the unknown compel them to immediately confirm their safety.

"Is everyone alright?" Mann's voice was slightly hoarse from being forced. He was the first to raise his head, looking around warily, while using his right arm—the bionic arm that integrated a powerful shield generator—to protect himself in a defensive stance.

“It’s…it’s alright…” Rebecca struggled to get up, but her limbs were still a little weak. Dorio reached out and pulled her up.

"It feels like it's been taken apart and put back together, and maybe a few parts were put in the wrong place..." Pila muttered, stretching his signature long arms to check if the joints were normal.

Falco quickly put on his sunglasses, his gaze scanning the environmental parameters rapidly through the lenses. Sasha and Qiwei stood back to back, their electronic warfare cybernetic bodies silently activated, constructing a small-scale passive defense barrier, sensing the surrounding electromagnetic fluctuations and data streams.

However, the attack or extremely dangerous environment they had anticipated did not occur.

The scene that came into view surprised them, making their tense nerves feel a little taken aback.

They were inside a huge cave that appeared to have been carved out by man. The cave ceiling was high and hidden in shadow, with only a few scattered, stable but distant light sources, like starlight, barely outlining the shape of the dome.

The main light source comes from tubular light-emitting elements embedded in the walls, which emit a cool-toned, uniform, and non-glaring white light, illuminating the entire space like a sacred temple or a harsh factory.

Beneath my feet was a circular platform about thirty centimeters above the ground. The surface was not smooth, but densely covered with complex and unfamiliar geometric patterns and nested rings.

These engravings are deep and precise, as if they were instantly etched by a tool with extremely high energy, forming a structure with unknown function, resembling an altar or some kind of energy-focusing base.

All around them stood various instruments and equipment that they could not understand.

The first impression of these devices is that they are rough, primitive, and even somewhat bulky.

Huge, brass-colored or dark steel-colored gears, each over a meter in diameter, meshed tightly with equally thick drive rods, producing a heavy, rhythmic grinding sound as they slowly turned…

Thick cables, wrapped in a thick layer of black insulation, resemble dormant metal pythons, coiled in bundles around sturdy metal supports or extending along trenches in the ground. At some joints, exposed interfaces can be seen, flickering with faint arcs of electricity...

Inside some waist-high glass tubes or cylindrical containers, there are slowly flowing unidentified liquids or gases that emit a ghostly green or dark blue light. The intensity of the light pulsates in a certain rhythm, as if it is breathing...

However, this "roughness" and "primitiveness" is merely a visual illusion, a matter of style.

Upon closer inspection, one can discover the exquisite craftsmanship hidden beneath: every tooth of those enormous gears is perfectly crafted, with meshing gaps so small they are barely perceptible to the naked eye, and the metal surfaces gleam with a cool luster that comes from special heat treatment and polishing, making them far superior to ordinary brass or steel.

The insulation of those thick cables appears heavy, but its material is flexible and extremely strong. It is vaguely visible that the conductor underneath is not an ordinary copper core, but a strange metal wire braid that is dark silver in color and obviously has extremely high energy conduction efficiency.

The faint, steady, and deep hum of energy emanating from inside the instrument, without any noise or fluctuation, revealed the reliability and precision of its power core and control system, which far exceeded the level of technology commonly found in Night City.

The atmosphere of the entire environment inexplicably shared a similar feel with the workshop in the abandoned town that Chen Yu was familiar with.

It is a mechanical aesthetic that completely abandons unnecessary aesthetics and ergonomic comfort, and purely pursues functionality and pragmatism.

Every bolt and every conduit seems to exist solely to achieve a specific purpose with maximum efficiency.

However, the style here is more ancient and profound than Chen Yu's relatively "modern" and "integrated" workshop. The exposed gears, levers and steam power elements carry a solemnity that has been precipitated by the years, almost obsessively, as if silently proclaiming a kind of ancient worship and persistence in mechanical power.

"This... is the 'other end' the boss was talking about?" Rebecca shook her head, her green prosthetic eye curiously surveying the place, which resembled an ancient technological ruin more than a dangerous zone. "It looks... pretty sturdy?"

"Stay alert," Mann ordered in a deep voice. Although the environment seemed calm, he dared not be careless in the slightest.

His left arm, the prosthetic arm that integrates a precision-engineered plasma cannon, had its energy circuit glowing faintly, indicating it was in a low-power standby state.

Just then, a rhythmic sound of footsteps, accompanied by a metallic scraping sound, came from a passageway on one side of the cave.

The voice was deep and powerful, echoing in the empty cave.

All eyes turned to the source of the sound, and the nerves that had just relaxed tightened again.

The weapon system was quietly adjusted to a state where it could be fired at any time. Dorio took half a step forward, subtly protecting Rebecca, Pila, and other members with slightly weaker defenses behind her.

Mowell lowered his stance slightly, and the hum of the sonic blade increased to an almost inaudible level.
