Warhammer: The Time Traveler

Chapter 75 Dealing with Trouble

Chapter 75 Dealing with Trouble (Sixth Update)
Chen Yu was well aware of the value of the technology he possessed and fully understood the company's desire for it.

Although he possesses technology far ahead of this era, and could easily create weapons capable of destroying an entire city if he so desired, the problem is that what he lacks most right now is time and resources, not the ability to cause destruction.

In fact, as long as he could stabilize and maintain the dimensional portal to the Warhammer world, he could easily deploy that loyal Cleric squad from the other end.

That army, equipped with real energy weapons and covered in terracotta armor, was capable of crushing any privately owned military force that any company on this planet could be proud of.

However, opening and maintaining such a channel requires enormous amounts of energy and specific rare materials, which is precisely what he currently lacks.

Instead of wasting precious resources in an endless war of attrition, we should focus on solving this fundamental problem.

Once the channel is firmly established, these threats to the company will become insignificant in his eyes.

A full-scale war with the two companies, especially with military technology deeply intertwined with the new United States, is a situation he is trying his best to avoid at this stage.

With his current capabilities, even if the military technology were to utilize the conventional forces it deployed around Night City that were subject to the ceasefire agreement, such as the Minotaur mechs and the Lizard armored vehicles, it would only mean sending him more experimental samples and resources.

But he abhors trouble, especially the kind that is constant, requires long-term effort to deal with, and seriously takes up his precious research time.

The threat posed by biotechnology is manageable, as it is primarily a giant engaged in biological research, and its armed forces are mainly comprised of security departments and mercenaries, thus the threat is relatively limited.

But military technology is completely different.

Its predecessor was an old American arms giant that once almost monopolized the supply of all weapons to the U.S. military, from individual soldier equipment to aircraft carrier fleets, and even possessed a strategic-level nuclear weapons arsenal.

After being nationalized in some form by the new United States, current military technology and the new US government are almost two sides of the same coin and difficult to distinguish.

The current president of the United States, Rosalind Myers, is the former president of Military Technology.

This means that once the conflict escalates completely, Chen Yu may no longer be facing the company security guards and special forces of Night City, but the entire national war machine of the new United States.

Chen Yu was not afraid of war itself.

If he could stabilize the dimensional rift and successfully transport his well-equipped, battle-hardened Apostolic Guard detachment, or even more powerful war machines, from the Warhammer universe, he was confident enough to crush any organized armed force on this planet.

The war technology of the Warhammer universe, whether in the use of energy weapons, armor protection, or macro-strategic aspects, is far beyond the reach of the technology of this world.

But Chen Yu is essentially a researcher and an explorer.

His primary goal is to unravel the mysteries of dimensional teleportation, reclaim resources from the Warhammer universe, improve his own technological capabilities, and even explore a wider universe.

He viewed it as an extremely inefficient and unwise act to expend so much time, energy, and resources on a full-scale war with local forces.

He would never want to go to that point unless the war could bring enormous benefits far exceeding the investment and that could not be obtained through other means. Therefore, at the current stage, adopting a strategy of using war to promote peace, forcing the other side to sit down for negotiations by demonstrating strength and precise deterrence, or at least preventing the other side from taking any rash actions for the time being, is the optimal choice in his interests.

Chen Yu lightly tapped the control panel with his mechanical tentacles, and the holographic projection immediately displayed three detailed personnel files, each marked with a conspicuous red warning label.

“Your suggestion has merit.” Chen Yu’s synthesized voice rang out smoothly in the workshop. “We need to send a clear message to military technology and biotechnology: Don’t bother me.”

“Simply dodging and defending will only embolden them,” Chen Yu continued. “We must proactively demonstrate our strength and make them understand the cost of continuing this entanglement. These three targets require special attention.”

The mechanical tentacles pointed to each name in turn, emitting a faint buzzing sound.

“Elliott Guan, the biotechnology’s security chief, is directly in charge of this manhunt. Carl Strange of the Military Technology Special Projects Division is responsible for coordinating the joint operation between the two companies. Julia Winters, a board member of the biotechnology company, is one of the senior executives who pushed this together.”

Chen Yu's mechanical finger traced a red light across the files of Strange and Winters.

"Strange and Winters, eliminate them. Strange is a man of action; getting rid of him is like cutting off their outstretched claws. Winters represents the will of the company's top management; her death will force them to reassess the risks."

His finger finally stopped on Elliott Guan's file.

“Guan must be kept alive, but he must be sufficiently frightened. Let him witness the fate of his companions to ensure he can accurately deliver our ‘greetings.’ This survivor will become our most effective messenger.”

Mowell's gaze swept over the faces of the three targets, etching their features firmly into his memory. "Understood, Master. Execute Strange and Winters, keep them as messengers. I will ensure the message is delivered clearly and unambiguously."

“Remember,” Chen Yu added, “Guan must live, but he must feel the touch of death. Let him understand that his survival is not a fluke, but because we still need him to deliver messages.”

“Furthermore,” Chen Yu continued, “we need to make them understand in our operations that continued hostilities are not the only option. If they are willing to pay sufficient compensation for their previous offenses and promise to stop the harassment, we can consider limited technical exchanges, or at least a ceasefire.”

He deliberately emphasized the word "compensation".

"The compensation I need is mainly for special minerals and materials. Giants like those in military technology certainly have access to extraterrestrial resources. Obtaining them from them is far more efficient than searching for them ourselves."

He drew up a detailed list of materials and projected it next to the target file.

“Go,” Chen Yu commanded finally. “Demonstrate your abilities and let the company understand what they are facing. Be careful. Your primary task is to deliver information, not to make reckless sacrifices. I need you to bring back results, whether it's their fears or the price they are willing to pay.”

Mowell bowed deeply: "Yes, Master. Your will will be fulfilled."

She stood up, her newly modified body light yet powerful, like a cheetah poised to pounce. Turning and leaving the workshop, she quickly blended into the darkness outside, beginning her first mission as a Rust Seeker—to deliver greetings and choices from the Mechanic to the corporate tycoons.

Chen Yu then turned his attention back to the control interface of the dimensional teleporter. Mower's actions were merely a means for him to deal with the current troubles; his core objective remained unchanged. He needed to resolve these external distractions as soon as possible so he could focus more intently on the truly important research.
