Super Magician: The Magic Network Collapsed Again at the Start
Chapter 6 Warrior Blatt
Chapter 6 Warrior Blatt
The mage tower has no basement because the ground is too hard to excavate. The storage room is located on the first floor for easy transport of supplies.
Anser had lived here for five years and knew it like the back of his hand. He squeezed through the dilapidated door and found the place had been ransacked, with things scattered everywhere.
'Damn, it must have been those gray dwarves.'
He cursed inwardly, but his movements were swift, quickly gathering up the useful supplies.
Candles, shovels, soap, water bags, ink, a stack of white paper, clothes, binoculars... nothing valuable, but very useful for those about to flee.
I filled a big bag and casually tossed it in the lobby.
But the most needed rope could not be found.
He had no choice but to muster his courage and run upstairs to the dormitory, kitchen, alchemy room, meditation room...
Most of the rooms were ransacked, but not thoroughly. He knew the area well and actually found quite a few good things.
There were several money bags, two spellbooks, some food, and a bundle of rope. The most valuable item was a spare staff found in Fabian's room.
'The gray dwarves don't know their stuff, or maybe it was just those brainless goblins and orc slaves who searched it. Too bad they didn't find Fabian's secret treasure chest.'
The staff was six feet long, about the same height as Anser when it was planted on the ground. It looked like a gray-green stick with dull patterns on its surface, and was very inconspicuous.
He doesn't know the Appraisal skill and can't immediately know its terms and usage, but he can use it as a regular spellcasting tool.
The mentor, Fabian, once said he would reward the best-performing apprentice with this staff. In return for this promise, he received a group of highly motivated and enthusiastic students, who even paid for their own jobs.
It's ridiculous!
Most of the dozens of apprentices at the Mage Tower had little potential; some were unaware of their own limitations, some harbored ulterior motives, and most were simply unwilling to accept their fate.
In an effort to curry favor with Fabian and vie for limited resources, the apprentices constantly fight amongst themselves, scheming against each other for a teaching assistant or purchasing position, unaware that these are all Fabian's petty tricks.
Anser suddenly remembered the first teaching assistant, Gus, who had harmed the original owner. If he encountered him, he wouldn't mind killing him and rightfully "inheriting" Fabian's belongings.
He shook his head, clearing his mind of the chaos, changed into the new clothes and boots he found in his room, then packed all his valuables into a black leather backpack and carried it on his back along with his staff.
The other miscellaneous items were packed into a bundle and hidden in a corner outside the mage tower, to be retrieved later.
He carried the rope to the edge of the giant pit, peered down, and saw nothing but darkness.
With no other option, he could only pull out the glowing wooden stick from the side of his backpack, lift a corner of the black cloth and shake it, then immediately wrap it up again.
"I'm here, I'm here!"
Blatt's voice came from below, his tone filled with barely concealed surprise.
Anser scanned the area with the rope and found that the area directly above the stone pillar was not a good location.
After the Brampton and East Road areas collapsed, the Chossa River breached its banks, and the mighty river flowed from the southwest into the giant pit, forming waterfalls of all sizes. The water flowed for a whole day and only decreased slightly.
Blatt's location wasn't ideal; coming straight up meant facing the force of the current, which made things quite difficult.
Anser avoided the area, moved sideways for more than ten meters, and then secured the rope to a broken, thick tree stump.
"Watch out for the rope!"
After saying that, he threw the rope forcefully towards Blatt.
A few seconds later, the rope tightened, and Blatt's response came from below:
"I've caught it, you don't need to pull me, I'll climb up myself."
“Okay.” Anser smiled faintly, knowing that the other party was worried that the rope would break when they pulled.
He pulled over a tattered blanket that he had prepared beforehand and placed it under the rope to prevent the stones from rubbing against it.
A few minutes later, Blatt came into Anser's sight.
He made a safety device using a belt, buckles, and ropes. The buckle on his waist looked very professional and would tighten quickly with each step he took. It wasn't fast, but it was very safe. When he got tired, he could hang halfway on the rock face to catch his breath for a few seconds.
In the last few meters, Anser did not go up to help. Instead, he stepped back a few paces, watched him climb up, and then collapsed on the ground, panting heavily.
"Thank you, okay... I'm tired..." Blatt brushed his messy hair from his face, revealing a thin face with pale lips and a pair of very distinctive emerald-like eyes.
He wasn't as lucky as Anser. After the water flow shifted, he was soaked for a long time, losing his strength and becoming both tired and hungry.
"Very professional, adventurer?" Anser looked him up and down.
“I’ve done this before. Before last night, I was the security captain at Lingang Hospital, a professional soldier.” As he spoke, Blatt struggled to his feet, unfastened the lock, and coiled the rope neatly to put it away.
"Then you're quite lucky," Anser remarked.
The Lingang Hospital, not far from the Mage Tower, had already disappeared below ground. In the face of a disaster of this magnitude, professionals were no different from ordinary people; surviving was definitely a stroke of luck. "Meeting you was truly my good fortune; I owe you my life," Blatt said sincerely, his eyes involuntarily focusing on Anser's face.
Those were tiny dragon scales, gleaming with an extremely subtle metallic sheen under the moonlight, only noticeable upon closer inspection.
"Come over here and talk." Seeing that he had regained some strength, Anser led him to the place outside the mage tower where he had hidden the package.
This place is more secluded, so it won't be seen by passersby or underground creatures.
Blatt, carrying his longsword, walked heavily. His eyes lit up when he saw the large package in the corner: "Is there any food?"
Yes, but not many.
Anser took a cloth bag out of the package, pulled out a piece of black bread that was more than 20 centimeters long and more than 10 centimeters wide, tossed it to Blatt, and then took one out for himself to eat.
"Brown sugar walnut bread, good stuff." Blatt didn't stand on ceremony and started eating it right away.
Brown sugar walnut bread, also known as Ammu black bread, comes in many varieties and is a standard staple food in the Mage Tower, but for the poor, it is a delicacy that can only be enjoyed occasionally.
From this perspective, Fabian still has some conscience.
Anser was also hungry. He hadn't felt it before, but once the soft, sweet bread entered his mouth, the hunger surged like a tidal wave.
He took out a water bag and casually tossed one to Blatt.
In the corner, the two sat facing each other, neither speaking, focused only on eating.
However, Anser did not relax; he kept his ears perked up, listening intently to any sounds coming from outside.
Blatt was the same; he would stop chewing at the slightest sound, keep his longsword at hand, and be much more vigilant than Anser.
His gaze occasionally swept over Anser's clothes and staff, his expression revealing a hint of understanding.
After drinking water and finishing the last bite of bread, he hung the water bag on his waist and asked in a low voice, "Are you a mage from the Mage Tower?"
"I suppose so. My name is Anser." Anser didn't explain much. "It's dangerous here. What are your thoughts?"
“We can’t stay here any longer. The north and northeast are full of underground creatures, the south is the Chongsa River, and the east is Dust Eagle Mountain. We’d better go to Dust Eagle Mountain to take shelter…” Blatt pondered.
His idea was to hide. The Baldur's Gate Council wouldn't stand idly by. As long as the Flamefist Legion and the Sentinels took action, this wave of invaders, mainly grey dwarves, would soon be driven back underground.
Even if the Baldur's Gate leadership can't handle it, they can seek help from the Lords Alliance, including Silvermoon City, Neverwinter City, Waterdeep City, and many others.
"The Magic Network...something's happened!" Anser said in a deep voice.
This is the real disaster!
"What?" Blatt's eyes widened in shock, then, as if realizing something, he asked, "Then... how can you still cast spells?"
“The magic network hasn’t collapsed yet,” Anser explained. “I unexpectedly awakened my dragon bloodline and switched to magic casting.”
Blatt lowered his head, his eyes flickering, and after a long silence, he slowly spoke: "Then you are truly a genius."
Obviously, it is not an easy task to get professionals who are used to casting spells from the spell slots to switch to magic casting.
"Maybe." Anser, unaware of the difference between himself, who possessed a job panel, and other job seekers, could only give a vague answer.
