Chapter 3 Kill
Chapter 3 Kill
"There's no need to belittle yourself," the female voice replied. "Your strength is enough for a trainee soldier, it's just that your skills are really lacking."
"A trainee soldier can't even take down an undead in its sandbag form?" Su Ming couldn't help but complain, his tone filled with frustration.
“Liches are high-ranking undead creatures. Although they are not known for their toughness, they are not weak either,” the female voice explained calmly, then added, “Let’s revise this. Your strength is barely that of an apprentice warrior, and your weapon’s hardness is decent. It would be even better if you could sharpen it a bit more. Based on simulations, well, an apprentice warrior would probably need about fifty leaping slashes to solve the problem.”
"I'll f*** you!" Su Ming almost blurted out a curse.
Fifty strokes? Su Ming was certain that if he did that, he'd be the first one to give up!
He wiped the sweat from his brow. "How much longer until Galio finishes his transformation?"
“Two farads—roughly the time since you traveled through time until now,” the female voice replied. “I don’t quite understand how to transmit units of time.”
"Damn it!" Su Ming exclaimed anxiously. "Quickly think of a way to kill him. Using a crowbar won't work; he'll heal faster than I can stab him—wait, can you help me?"
Although only the sound was heard, the actual entity should be nearby, and it seemed quite powerful.
"I'm sorry, I can't help with anything beyond language guidance," the woman replied curtly.
"...Then tell me what it's afraid of!"
“It’s afraid of many things, but in this situation, I can’t think of an easier solution than smashing it to pieces,” the woman’s voice replied.
"Is it afraid of fire?"
"Of course, burning it will make it disappear. Are you skilled in fire-based powers?"
"No, I'm not good at it."
Su Ming glanced at the truck's fuel tank, which contained at least 200 liters of diesel fuel.
"But this 'alchemy behemoth' excels at it!"
****
Su Ming found a basin in the driver's cab, then used a wrench to loosen the drain plug, filled it up, and poured it onto Galio.
"Will the floor burn through?" he asked, remembering that the floor was made of bone.
"Yes, but it doesn't matter. This is the first level of the Tower of Bones," the female voice replied. "Below is rock."
Tower of Bones? Amidst the gurgling sound of diesel fuel, Su Ming looked around and indeed, it was all bones. What a simple and straightforward name.
After pouring oil into four basins, Su Ming stopped. He took a few steps back, lit a piece of cloth with a lighter, and threw it out.
Flames spread from the cloth until they rose into a raging inferno, engulfing Galio completely.
The heatwave forced Su Ming to take a few more steps back. A piercing wail came from the flames, accompanied by a series of pounding and struggling sounds. The tires were also ignited, producing thick black smoke and a foul odor.
Suddenly, Su Ming realized something and turned to run. Sure enough, two explosions followed immediately, the huge shockwaves extinguishing the flames. Only two bare wheel rims remained where they were. As the carriage tilted, the rims pressed down on Galio again, even wedging themselves in, accompanied by several crisp sounds of bones breaking.
The scattered sparks spread again, and the flames once more enveloped everything in the black smoke.
**
The screams lasted for a full three minutes before finally ceasing. The diesel fire subsided, leaving only a charred human figure where Galio had stood.
Su Ming poked it with a crowbar; the outside felt very soft. "Burned to this extent, it should be dead, right?" he asked.
“I can’t be sure,” the female voice replied. “There’s no precedent for burning and transforming liches. Perhaps we need more experimental data?”
"Understood, burn it again." Su Ming was already used to the woman's way of speaking. He extinguished the remaining fire and then poured four more basins of diesel oil onto the corpse.
Just as Su Ming was about to light the fire, he saw the charred corpse in front of him suddenly open its eyes, its gaze filled with a tangible venom. Before Su Ming could even scream, he was enveloped by the dark aura emanating from those eyes. In an instant, Su Ming felt a chill run through him, his entire body stiffening.
“Dark Edict, a control spell,” the female voice explained. “I underestimated the lich’s fire resistance. Write it down.”
"Wait, what should I do now!" Su Ming cried out in his mind, "Has Galio already completed the transformation?!"
"No, he's only halfway through the transformation, and now he's given up." The female voice seemed to be struggling with how to describe it. "A half-baked lich, no, an incomplete lich? A lich not yet fully developed?"
"No, don't think about that, just tell me what happened! What should we do?"
“Galio was half-burned to death by you. If you had been allowed to set him on fire again, he would have been gone for good. So he gave up the conversion and barely managed to control you with a spell,” the female voice replied. “Of course, the backlash from stopping the lich conversion and forcibly casting the spell was severe.”
Su Ming had also noticed this. After Galio cast the spell, his eyes almost lost all their luster, and he lay there for a long time without making any further moves.
"What do I need to do to lift this dark edict?"
"No need to undo it, this spell will only last for about the time it takes you to pour three buckets of oil on it," the female voice said. "But you're dead, don't bother struggling anymore."
"Why?" Su Ming asked, puzzled. "If I understand correctly, he's already at his last gasp!"
That's true, but—
Before him, Galio's dark humanoid form seemed to have recovered, and began to open and close its mouth as if speaking to the air.
A sound was heard, but Su Ming couldn't understand it. The conversation ended, and Su Ming saw a bone spear glowing with an eerie light begin to solidify in the air before him, followed by another.
There was another spellcaster here. Galio had just been giving it commands, and now this spellcaster was about to kill him! Su Ming suddenly understood the situation before him.
No wonder the woman's voice said he was doomed.
A sudden realization dawned on Su Ming's mind.
"Are you one of his men?" Su Ming asked. "You're the one who's trying to kill me."
“Yes.” The female voice admitted, “I’m sorry, Galio is my master. Although I can chat with passersby, pretend I didn’t see the intruder, and slack off when I’m working—I can’t hurt Galio, much less disobey his orders.”
During their previous telepathic connection, the female voice never directly told Su Ming what to do—although her hints were almost overflowing.
"Your strength is average, you have no spellcasting ability, and no other abilities beyond comprehension. My observation of you is correct, isn't it, guest from another world?"
"Exactly."
"Then there's no solution." The woman sighed. "What a pity, I thought I could use this opportunity to break free from Galio's control. By the way, what's your name?"
“Su Ming”.
"My name is White Bone. Mr. Su Ming, do you have any last words?"
"..."
"No? Goodbye then. I thought you'd bring me something new and exciting," the woman said in farewell.
Before him, the number of white bone spears had increased to twenty. A feeling of unease arose in Su Ming's heart as his entire body stiffened; it was the spellcaster's mental lock.
