Devil's Bible

Chapter 2 Forgiveness

Chapter 2 Forgiveness
Downs, hunched over, stood outside the door, clutching the hem of his burlap coat, anxiously awaiting the homeowner's response to his plea.

Although only a few seconds had passed since the knocking, Towns already felt like he was about to suffocate.

The door opened the next moment, and Downs shuddered. He felt all his strength drain away, his mind went blank, and only his instinct kept him standing still.

"What's the matter?" Nems looked at the other person, a typical villager from a small town, with a strong smell of wool and sheep on him, most likely a shepherd who herded sheep for a landlord.

His words were like a spring breeze, flowing into Towns' body and infusing him with vitality.

"Ah." Upon hearing the Paladin's words, Downs trembled again, then realized what he meant and stammered, "Paladin, I'm Downs, the shepherd, my sheep are lost..."

Downs then blurted out everything he knew: "There are claw marks on the sheepfold, and a huge hole in it. I discovered that one sheep is missing. Last night, the village guards also heard screams. Lord Opp suspects it's a demon, so he sent me to invite you. He will punish me!"

"My lord paladin, please capture that demon and save me!"

“I see. Then lead the way.” Nemus said with a smile, “Don’t be nervous. Since it’s the work of a demon, the loss of the sheep is not your fault. I will plead for you.”

Nemes immediately saw through Towns's current panic.

The village of Dorsal Fin is not very large, with a permanent population of only about one hundred households.

Most of the villagers work for Mr. Op.

The sheep that Towns raised were also the property of Op. In this case, if the sheep were lost, it would be a dereliction of duty on Towns' part. He could very well lose his job and be punished, thus becoming a prospective village keeper.

With Naim's comfort, Towns felt much more at ease.

Nemes found Nair's knight's sword in the house, took it with him, and then set off with Downs.

"Lord Nair is truly like a ray of holy light, warming people's hearts..." Downs thought to himself, "Why did those people spread such bad things about Lord Nair before?! They were so wicked!"

Resentful, Downs led the way and soon arrived at the sheepfold on the edge of the village, where he met the village chief, Op.

The village chief, Op, was a middle-aged man. He was wearing a robe that was not quite suitable for the rough stone roads in the village, and his slightly fat face was covered with sweat.

“Mr. Nair, you look great today.” Op looked at 'Nair,' whose appearance hadn’t changed much, but whose demeanor had been completely transformed. He wiped the sweat from his brow with a handkerchief, his expression shifting. Instead of discussing the sheep pen, he started exchanging pleasantries with Naim.

"It's just that I've been blessed by the God of Discipline and have come to understand some things," Nemus said with a smile, quite naturally.

"Ah, the glory of the God of Discipline is eternal." Upon hearing this, Op couldn't help but chant the glory of the god, and then his gaze fell on Downs, who was bowing his head to the side.

“Don’t blame the young man too much. God teaches us to be strict with ourselves but to forgive others.” Seemingly noticing Op’s gaze, Nemus offered this words of comfort.

“…Then, as Mr. Inner says, let this lowly commoner be exonerated.” Op was momentarily stunned, and after a while, he replied, not caring at all about this kind of lowly commoner.

What he didn't know was that as soon as he said those words, a piece of information flashed through Nemus's mind.

The precepts have been updated.

[Identity 2: Paladin Nair]

[Main Law: Forgiveness—You pardon the mistakes of others and forgive their sins]

[Discipline Feedback: Every time you forgive someone, you will receive a portion of their life bonus.]

At this moment, a certain power was also faintly emanating from Towns and falling upon Nems, making Nems' life force even more vigorous. This enhancement was not a plunder, but rather a continuous support that would be provided as long as Towns existed.

After casually dealing with Towns' problem, Nems and Op went to a corner of the sheepfold.

At this moment, a hole has been cut in the sheepfold fence, and the cut is very clean, which shows the strength of the vandal and the sharpness of the weapon.

On the grass outside the sheepfold, a splash of blood stood out prominently, along with numerous drag marks.

Anyone with a discerning eye could tell at a glance that a 'demon' had broken through the fence, grabbed a sheep, and dragged it away.

The damaged fence was in a rather remote location. If Towns hadn't been so familiar with the number of sheep, and if the village guards hadn't vaguely heard shouts the night before, prompting Op to patrol the sheepfold, they probably wouldn't have discovered the hole so easily.

He then asked, "Mr. Nair, was this the work of a demon?"

"Hmm, a fairly clear demonic scent. It's probably an unexpected little demon." Nemus made a professional assessment: "No one knows demons better than me, so it's not a big problem."

When it comes to demons, no one is more professional than him.

The Abyss of Hell is a lower dimension. In the lower dimension, demons possess physical forms, but those forms become formless and intangible when they come to the material plane, because demons do not possess actual matter.

Therefore, in order to remain in the material plane for a long time, demons need to absorb matter in various ways to anchor themselves.

The demon statues that Nemus previously used were anchors, using the image of demons in popular perception to maintain their own existence.

This little devil doesn't have that skill, so it's highly likely that it has corrupted and taken over the beast's body.

However, due to the conflict between its demonic nature and its beastly body, it needs to consume large quantities of other animals to alleviate this conflict.

Only a little devil with a muddled mind who unexpectedly gains the opportunity to enter the material plane would do something so awful.

However, imps happen to be the most numerous group among demons, which is why the negative stereotype that demons are mindless is so persistent.

"So, you'll leave the rest to me?" Nems asked Op.

“Since it’s a minor demon, I believe Mr. Nair can handle it.” Op nodded and then said, “I’ll have to trouble Mr. Nair this time. Resolve the demon problem as soon as possible, and I will donate enough tokens to the church afterwards.”

What Op was unaware of was that, with the moment he finished speaking, a simple contract was formed through verbal agreement.

The shamanic vows of Nemus's demonic identity require sufficient covenant oaths to continuously strengthen the artifacts he forges.

A smile appeared on Nemus's lips as he watched Op leave.

It all felt like a mess made by an ignorant little devil, and the scene reeked of evil.

But as he said, no one understands the devil better than him.

The demonic auras we see now, though pure, are not ferocious enough. A real demon wouldn't just steal a single sheep.

Even if it were a little devil, the sheep pen, including the Towns around it, should have been torn to pieces!
This demonic incident was by no means an accident.

Please read it carefully, it's very important for the new book, thank you!
