Reborn Cat Sheriff
Chapter 96 New Map
Chapter 96 New Map
Lin Ge ran more than a hundred meters in one breath before realizing that he was in an unfamiliar place.
Judging from the bus stop sign next to it, thankfully we are still in Zhangzhou City.
However... this area is not within the jurisdiction of Zhanghe Police Station. It is located in a place called Longquan Street, between Zhanghe Police Station and the train station.
In other words, he ran into the territory of Longquan Police Station.
They belong to the neighboring friendly forces.
This is currently the most prosperous area in Zhangzhou, and also the area with the most development and population concentration in recent years. Putting everything else aside and just talking about housing prices, the prices of high-rise apartments here have reached almost double those in Zhanghe Street.
However, rapid development has brought not only prosperity, but also the shrinking of green spaces and the reduction of public resources.
It's rare to find parks with lush greenery here, and there are no green belts or rows of trees along the roads. The wide ten-lane road and countless billboards, shopping malls, and tall buildings on both sides make this commercial street prosperous and luxurious; but the scorching sun baking the ground makes it less gentle and refreshing, giving people a feeling of anxiety and restlessness.
Everyone says that the pace of life is fast in big cities, and that's probably the reality of people and cars rushing around in this kind of environment.
Lingo didn't like this environment.
Without flowerbeds, green trees, or places to hide, it's like a cat standing naked in the public eye, feeling extremely insecure.
Lin Ge determined his direction from the bus stop sign and began to slowly walk towards Zhanghe Street.
He walked straight down the hot brick road, brushing past many people. But no one paid any attention to the cat. People passing by might murmur a few words, but no one stopped to play or cuddle with it.
Lin Ge didn't care, he just sped up a little and finally reached the end of the street.
Finally, a patch of green came into view—an open space between the bridgehead and the bank building. Several very old ash trees stood in the open space, surrounded by a ring of red photinia.
Beneath these trees were several stone tables and chairs, with bank advertising banners hanging nearby. A group, presumably selling insurance or conducting training, was giving a presentation, while a few elderly men lingered nearby to observe.
Lin Ge was a little tired, so he went straight to the shade of a photinia tree with dry soil and lay down to rest for a while.
He was thirsty, but there wasn't even a tap in the area. Back in the Zhanghe district, there were public toilets and parks everywhere, and Lin Ge had never worried about being thirsty.
"a cat?"
An old man with his hands behind his back stepped out from the group of people giving propaganda and noticed Lin Ge and paused for a moment.
He hadn't seen a stray cat in the area for a long time.
Upon closer inspection, however, the cat was wearing a collar, meaning it wasn't a stray. This made the old man sigh with some regret; he really wanted to tug on the cat's ears and play with it.
The old man sat down on a chair not far from Lingo and coughed softly, clutching his chest.
The heat made him uncomfortable, and the alternating hot and cold weather was also putting a strain on his health. He took a thermos from his pocket, took a sip, thought for a moment, then filled it to the brim and placed it on the ground in front of him.
"Mimi? Come on, want some water?"
"What are you talking about!"
Lin Ge opened his eyes unhappily but did not refute. Looking at the old man's kind face and feeling his dry throat, he obediently stood up and walked towards the old man, then lowered his head and drank without any politeness.
"Haha...so good!"
The old man smiled happily.
The most endearing cats are those that aren't afraid of strangers. The old man bent down and placed his hand on Lingo's head, then began to rub Lingo's ears with his index finger and thumb.
He was having a great time, but Lin Ge wasn't happy about it.
When his ear twitched but he couldn't shake the old man off, Lin Ge simply took two steps back with the water cup lid in his mouth, moving to a place out of the old man's reach.
In no time at all, the cup lid was licked clean.
Lingo licked his lips, still feeling a bit unsatisfied, and felt his strength returning; he could continue his journey.
"Want some more?"
The old man added some more water to the lid and looked at Lin Ge with great interest.
"This old man isn't so bad."
Lin Ge muttered something to himself and walked over to continue drinking water.
Want some sunflower seeds?
The old man took out a handful of sunflower seeds from his pocket, each one plump and full. Seeing the cat looking up at him, the old man rubbed two more seeds out and handed them to Lin Ge in his palm.
"..."
Lin Ge could tell that the old man was quite lonely.
He wasn't bored; otherwise, he wouldn't be wandering around outside in this heat. He wasn't idle either; he wouldn't be hanging out at an insurance sales stall. And if he wasn't lonely, why would he be playing with a strange cat like this?
Does this old man live here? Or is he here to look after his son's house?
Lin Ge thought to himself, and did not refuse the old man's kindness.
To be honest, he doesn't really like sunflower seeds. Cats don't have chew teeth, and their upper and lower molars don't align properly, making it difficult for them to crush small nuts. Sunflower seeds are no fun to eat if swallowed whole. But… I'll give the old man face!
Lin Ge used his tongue to roll a few sunflower seeds into his mouth, his tongue slicing across the old man's palm, making him laugh out loud.
The old man thought for a moment, then went to the supermarket next door and bought a bag of spicy dried fish. He tore it open and handed it to Lin Ge, but Lin Ge refused, wagging his tail.
The person and the cat played together for a while.
At some point, the old man stood up, rubbing his back, and waved to Lin Ge.
"Oh dear! Goodbye, little Mimi, I'm off to pick up my grandson."
Lin Ge turned around gracefully, bid farewell to the old man, and continued on his way to Zhanghe Police Station.
‘Poof! ’
A strange sound made Lin Ge turn around in surprise, and he saw that the old man had actually knelt down on the ground.
He clutched his chest desperately with one hand, while struggling to reach into his pocket with the other. But due to his physical condition, his trembling hand couldn't reach into his purse.
"What's going on here?"
The people setting up stalls over there looked over, each with a surprised expression.
Some people quickly turned their heads, some pointed and whispered with others, and a young girl curiously came over and asked cautiously, "Grandpa, are you alright? What happened? Do you need me to call an ambulance for you?"
The old man was trembling all over and could no longer speak.
But judging from the surrounding people, no one seemed to intend to help or assist the elderly man. Even the most enthusiastic girl, seeing that she wasn't getting a response from him, quickly stood aside and started making a phone call.
"Idiot! He's having a fit!"
Lin Ge quickly ran over here.
He couldn't judge whether others were right or wrong, but it was clear that someone with this condition would carry medication with them at all times. Taking medication immediately was infinitely safer than waiting for an ambulance.
Amid the astonished gazes of the onlookers, Lin Ge rushed to the old man, knocked him down without a word, and then quickly reached into his pocket after the old man was lying flat.
"Hey! You cat! Get away from me!"
The onlookers were startled and kicked him without saying a word.
Lin Ge dodged, bared his teeth and gave the man a threatening look to scare him away, then continued searching the old man's pockets.
"Call 110! This cat is hurting people!"
One of the onlookers, watching from a distance, gave instructions from afar, while remaining completely still himself.
"All stray cats should be killed; they're too dangerous!"
"It looks like you fell pretty hard. Who do you think should be responsible for the medical expenses?"
Others have also offered their opinions.
Lin Ge didn't care about anything else. After searching for a long time, he finally pulled out a paper prescription bag from the pocket on the old man's Zhongshan suit.
He used both hands and feet to pry open the bag, revealing seven or eight small white pills inside. He quickly picked one up with his fingernails and ran to the old man to put it in his mouth.
The old man was still somewhat conscious and subconsciously swallowed the pill.
He wanted to smile at Lingo, but his cheeks twitched and he couldn't manage a smile.
"Hey, should we give him some water?"
Seeing Lin Ge feeding the old man medicine, the kind-hearted girl took out a bottle of mineral water from her handbag and then asked the cat a question.
"How do I know!"
Lin Ge rolled his eyes. "Are you crazy, an adult, asking a question to a cat?"
"Oh, oh!"
The girl, perhaps understanding what Lin Ge meant, quickly squatted down, unscrewed the bottle cap again, and carefully poured some water into the old man's mouth.
The old man made a swallowing motion, and Lin Ge breathed a sigh of relief.
An ambulance arrived shortly afterward.
When the girl received the call, she quickly got up to greet the caller.
A doctor and a nurse got out of the car and performed a simple examination on the elderly man. After confirming it was a heart attack and that he had already taken his medication, their tense expressions eased somewhat.
However, just to be on the safe side, it is still recommended to go to the hospital for observation.
With no family members around, the girl, who had called the police, followed the doctor's advice and got into the ambulance.
Just before leaving, she picked up Lin Ge and took him with her.
