Chapter 56 Scarlett, I Believe in You
The shelter is about to release poison gas.

Scarlett led Duke to the car and gave him three minutes to think.

Three minutes passed.

Chi Ye held the fireball in his hand to the edge of his cheek, his tone threatening: "It's fine if you don't talk, just let you feel the temperature. Next time, this fireball will hit your mistress's face directly."

Duke's eyes widened in shock, and his stubborn mouth finally loosened. "No, I'll talk."

Duke took a deep breath, his scarred face swallowed by despair, even the bloodshot veins couldn't hide the paleness on his face.

“Three months ago, my sister was killed by your superiors. Her death was gruesome. She wasn’t even left with a complete body. She was just left on the roadside to be eaten by stray dogs and cats. When I found her, her body was just bones, curled up in a corner, looking like trash.”

"At that time, I swore that I would avenge my sister."

"That's why I hate people like you. I want to kill you on the spot to avenge my sister!"

Duke spoke, but not entirely; he took the blame upon himself, excluding the true protagonist from the conversation.

How do you know we're from above?

Scarlett was somewhat horrified by his description and paused for a few seconds before continuing to ask.

Duke glanced at her, then looked at the others, and said coldly, "Your abilities are so powerful that it's obvious you don't belong in this leveling area. People in our world have limited resources and limited development. It's impossible for people of the same age to reach such abilities. There's no other explanation except for people from the world above."

Duke's statement is full of flaws; several major problems can be identified without even thinking about it.

Scarlett, however, did not intend to expose him. She wanted to hear his other answers before deciding whether to get rid of him.

"So you mean you'd kill anyone you saw without hesitation?"

"Correct!"

"How many did you kill?"

"You are the first, but you haven't succeeded in killing them yet."

Scarlett: “…”

They were quite lucky.

Scarlett paused, "What you're doing is indiscriminate killing, no different from the person who killed your sister. True revenge is to find your enemy and kill them with your own hands."

Duke's eyes hardened, and his tone became indignant: "Can't find him, can't kill him."

"why?"

"I can't go up."

The sky and the ground are separated by layers of electric fences, making it impossible for ordinary people to go up, let alone take revenge.

Scarlett suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for Duke.

The feeling of knowing where your enemy is, but never being able to reach them, is indeed painful.

It's understandable that people lose their senses in a moment of panic.

He shouldn't have dragged innocent people into this.

She asked Duke, "Do you know who your enemy is?"

"know."

"who is it?"

Duke opened his mouth but didn't speak. He suddenly looked at Scarlett warily. "What, are you trying to snitch?"

Scarlett smiled: "Tell me? No way. If I wanted to kill you, I would have just done it. Why bother with all that trouble of telling me?"

Duke chuckled coldly. "That's not necessarily true. If you knew who she was, you'd probably think informing on her would be more valuable than killing me outright."

Scarlett became interested after Duke said that, feeling that the person he was talking about was a big shot and that she could get a lot of benefits from him.

He chuckled darkly, his expression suddenly changing. He pulled out a gun from his spatial storage and pressed it against Duke's chin, his eyes narrowing, his gaze as dangerous as a viper's. "Just say what you want to say. Why all this nonsense? If you don't talk, I'll cause trouble for your mistress. I'm one of the higher-ups! Killing her is a piece of cake for me."

"No, no, no, I said!"

Upon hearing that Sherry was to be killed, Duke panicked instantly and, no longer daring to hide anything, blurted out the name of his enemy.

"Scarlett!"

"My enemy is Scarlett!"

Inside the carriage, three pairs of eyes suddenly turned to Scarlett.

Scarlett was startled, quickly regaining her composure. "No, I... she killed your sister? That's impossible. She... she's an imperial princess, how could she kill someone so easily?"

Scarlett felt incredibly guilty when she said that.

But he only felt guilty for a second before straightening his back.

She understood the original owner's memories.

She's good at fighting, swearing, and brawling.

kill.

She really didn't touch it.

The only life lost was probably Bessie's brother. Where did this debt come from? She had absolutely no recollection of it.

Seeing Scarlett defending that wicked woman, Duke couldn't help but sneer, even though he was worried about implicating Sherry: "So what if she's an imperial princess? She's still a jealous and wicked woman. My sister had contact with her beast husband because of work, and someone took a picture of her. She then ordered her to be executed!"

"My sister lost her life because of just a fabricated photo! This wicked woman is not worthy of being a princess of the empire! With her around, the empire is doomed!"

"Shut up!"

As a starship commander, Holst takes it upon himself to protect the Empire.

Someone spoke rudely, and he narrowed his gray eyes and shouted angrily.

The moment the words left his mouth, a wisp of black energy was released and wrapped around Duke's neck.

Duke suddenly had difficulty breathing, his face turned red, and he couldn't even speak out of pain as he struggled desperately.

"Stop! Who gave you permission to touch him!"

Scarlett saw through Holst's intention and immediately stopped him.

Holst raised an eyebrow, gave Scarlett a sinister glance, and remained unmoved.

"I command you, do not touch him, let go!"

Scarlett shouted again, her voice rising higher and higher, the sharp trailing tone echoing through the carriage, showing just how angry she was.

Why get angry at someone else's beastly husband?

Holst stared coldly at Scarlett, his smoky gray pupils like glaciers frozen for years, chilling and making one's heart tremble.

Suddenly.

He twitched the corner of his mouth and smiled.

As the black mist dissipated, Duke slumped back into his seat.

He coughed a few times, his voice dry and hoarse. "You can kill me, but don't implicate my mistress. She knows nothing. It was all my doing."

Knowing he was doomed, Duke didn't struggle and used his last bit of strength to distance himself from Shirley.

Female, beast, and unsubstantiated photographs.

Scarlett knew who Duke was talking about. She looked at Duke and asked, "Isn't your sister a researcher at the 403 Pharmaceutical Research Institute?"

Duke nodded. "Yes."

"What is your name?"

"Christine."

"Okay, I understand. You can go now."

Scarlett told Chi Ye to open the car door and let Duke out.

Duke stared at the open car door, stunned for a long moment, "You...you're not going to kill me?"

Scarlett looked at him quietly, a cold glint flashing in her gentle eyes. "If you're lying, I will definitely kill you."

……

……

After the third round of gas release, today's gas release is complete.

They can stay overnight at the shelter until 8 a.m. the next day.

The shelter was located in the suburbs, a simple wooden cabin nestled against a high mountain, facing a lake that stretched as far as the eye could see, surrounded by lush greenery and a subtle fragrance.

Bathed in moonlight, it appeared incredibly peaceful and beautiful.

Scarlett, however, was not in a good mood.

She feared that Christine's death was caused indirectly by the original owner of the body, just like Bessie's brother's.

If that's the case, she is indeed guilty.

However, Scarlett searched through her memories all night but couldn't find the answer.

The original owner only attacked her beast husband at the research institute and did not harm anyone else.

Scarlett sat in her room, looking at the moon outside the window. The night was long, and so was her silence.

After being forced to dispose of the poisoned corpses, Sevier washed her hands, knocked on the door, and came in to look at the moon outside the window with her.

After a moment of silence.

He said in an extremely ordinary tone, "Scarlett, I believe you."

Chi Ye leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, and gave a nonchalant laugh. "I believe you too."
