Chapter 785 Superheroes Shouldn't Be Like This!
Miles Warren, codenamed Jackal, is a professor of bioengineering at Imperial State University in New York. He has this codename because he is not only a master in the field of cloning, but also, like Spider-Man and many of his adversaries, Jackal has genetically modified himself, becoming a cyborg.
Yeah, this guy looks a lot like a Kamen Rider villain from every angle.
What he's doing now is creating a whole bunch of supervillain and Spider-Man clones. His cloning technology is far superior to that of Doctor Octopus from Earth 616—he has been researching cloning for decades and has successfully completed unparalleled research on perfect clones.
Ben Riley, or rather, the Peter Parker clone from Earth 1616, is one of his most outstanding achievements. When he completed all his research and intended to take revenge on Spider-Man, he discovered that Spider-Man had changed, becoming an idle, melancholic, and unproductive slacker.
This Spider-Man is not the Spider-Man Warren wanted to destroy! Everything was ruined! So Warren first created a perfect Spider-Man, a Spider-Man with 17 years of combat memories, and then implanted five years of memories and deleted everything about Miles himself, making him believe that he is the real clone, with peak physical fitness and combat power.
Imagine a Spider-Man like this appearing in the city, fighting long-dead supervillains. He'll steal all the glory from the real thing! He'll become the real Spider-Man! Everyone will think this Spider-Man is the real deal, the true one!
And he can take everything away from that damn fat otaku! Even his lover, his social connections, and in the end, that fat otaku can only die in a fit of rage, mistaken for a clone or something else.
Even if we take a step back and Peter Parker really rises up and is resurrected, he still has to compete with his clone, doesn't he?
As a result, everything was ruined! That damn clone Spider-Man actually joined forces with that damn fat nerd, and for some reason, these clone villains were so weak that they were easily defeated and destroyed.
Especially Venom and Mr. Negative, how exactly did they lose? Jackal pondered this question for a long time but still couldn't figure it out.
Superheroes shouldn't be like this!
Jackal gritted his teeth. The sinister sixteen were all ruined. Except for Green Goblin, his genetic sequences had been tampered with, and they couldn't have lasted more than a few hours. Now, they were probably completely broken. This was also Jackal's brilliance. Even if the clones and the originals could work together, they would still face the most crucial hurdle: a life-or-death separation.
Thinking of this, even the jackal couldn't help but hum a little tune.
Gwen, who used Mysterio's helmet to create illusions and quietly infiltrated the area with everyone, saw the guy's expressions constantly changing and then, after going on a rampage, asking in confusion, "What's wrong with this guy?"
“I don’t know either, but I have a general idea of why Miles Warren hates Peter Parker of this world so much. Of course, this is just some… guesses.”
Some speculations were based on information about the jackal from previous comics, but after Peter realized that the jackal's actions towards Spider-Man stemmed from disgust and hatred, he immediately investigated and found that this was indeed the case.
“Miles Warren was Gwen Stacy’s college advisor at Imperial State University. Gwen, your universe’s Gwen, worked and studied in his research group.” Upon hearing this, both local Spider-Men turned to look at Peter, and then Ben Riley asked uncertainly, “Wait, you mean he discovered my true identity and thinks I killed Gwen? So he’s seeking revenge for his student?”
"To be honest, it wasn't entirely for his students. I have a theory, purely a theory... Some time ago, when you were still in high school, Miles Warren led an experiment on human genetic evolution. In the experiment, he created a clone of himself with jackal genes. This clone unexpectedly gained his memories and then killed his wife and two daughters."
As Peter spoke, he took out photos of the jackal's wife and daughter. Fat Peter asked uncertainly, "You mean, this guy thinks Gwen looks like his wife or daughter? They don't look alike at all, except for the blonde hair, okay?"
"...This is just speculation, otherwise you wouldn't be able to explain why he hates you so much."
The two local Spider-Men seemed unfazed, but Gwen herself was clearly disgusted. She leaned close to Peter and whispered, "I remember you said there's one of these guys in our world too? Can't we just grab him?"
"If someone doesn't commit a crime, but is arrested or killed simply because their counterpart in a parallel universe has committed a crime, even if you know that this person is likely a bad guy, the whole world will be in chaos. Besides, in our universe, Miles' wife is alive and well, and his experimental project has already been rejected by Norman."
Compared to the "knowing he's a villain, so even without evidence, eliminate him" mentality, Peter is more wary of another scenario. The comic book universe's *Civil War II* stems from a similar reason: Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, believes in the prophetic abilities of an Inhuman, preemptively arresting or eliminating criminals before they commit crimes, thus triggering a notorious civil war that utterly ruins Carol Danvers' reputation.
"Alright then, can I beat up this guy in front of me?"
“Sure, but the problem is that this guy is most likely a clone. I’ll go find the real one for you, then you can beat him up.”
As Peter spoke, he looked at the fat Peter and Ben Riley from 1616: "Then I'll trouble you two to go and raid this guy while wearing the fishbowl head of this universe. Gwen and I are going to find the real Miles Warren."
The two men gestured in agreement, then stood up. Fat Peter, sporting the fishbowl-shaped haircut of the local Mysterio, walked out and said, "Hey, Miles, your days of creating clones and wreaking havoc in New York are over. Turn off the cloning machine."
“If you want this, then go get it yourself… I guess he won’t say that,” Ben Riley added from the side, watching the jackal stand up and look at the two of them in surprise: “How did you find this place?!”
"I saw him. Villains are always so cliché."
