Chapter 753 The Seven Cities of Tiandu
Chapter 753 Seven Cities of Tiandu
Going to Kunlun is a very time-consuming endeavor. According to Iron Fist, he spent over a decade practicing martial arts there. Peter neither has the time nor the inclination. He simply wants to go to the Spider Kingdom and ask the Mountain Spider: "Can I have a beating, and then give me your heart?"
It sounds strange, but it's true. Peter doesn't plan to stay in Kunlun or the Spider Kingdom for long, so he's going to try a more forceful approach if soft tactics fail. That's why he's not in a hurry to go to Kunlun; besides, Daniel needs to arrange some company matters before leaving.
So he decided to relax.
“I really hope that the way you relax isn’t by lying down here.”
Strange sighed helplessly, glancing at a book while occasionally twitching his finger. Peter sighed back, "I need to ask someone who knows the situation. I was thinking, since Kamar-Taj and Kunlun are so close, maybe you know something about this mountain spider?"
Strange was quite helpless. Kamar-Taj was indeed very close to Kunlun, but the problem was that apart from Kunlun, the other cities of the Seven Heavenly Capitals had been lost for who knows how long, and there was almost no intelligence to speak of. Even if there was, it was very perfunctory intelligence.
“If you want to know, all I can tell you is that the last immortal weapon of the Spider Kingdom to appear in history was a Tang Dynasty general named Pei Min.” Strange casually picked up another book and tossed it to Peter. “Apart from that, there is almost no information about the Spider Kingdom. Some say that the Seven Cities of Heaven are part of an even older extra dimension, and when they are combined, they form a vast extra dimension—known as the Heart of Heaven.”
"I know that. Iron Fist said it happens every 88 years."
Strange nodded. "And that's it."
Seeing Peter's confusion, Strange sighed and said, "The Heart of Heaven is the area where the Chinese gods, or immortals, reside. Gods and immortals are slightly different—the earliest Eastern gods, like the gods in other mythologies, were created by the ancient people's lack of understanding of the natural environment. But later, an Eastern monarch did something called 'severing the connection between heaven and earth.'"
"Simply put, he severed the connection between the gods and the mortal world. The gods could no longer interfere with anything in the mortal world. As a result, the ancient myths soon ceased to have any influence on the earth. Later, newer myths, or fairy tales, were born. These new gods were based on stories of people at that time. Many of them were even originally humans who, after death, merged with the stories and became gods in a similar way."
At this point, Strange paused, then spoke slowly and deliberately: "And at this time, when these new gods decided to search for Kunlun, they discovered that the gods had vanished, the celestial realm was shattered, and only a few immortal divine beasts remained in their respective fragments, waiting for the reorganization that only happens a few days every 88 years. Tell me, what happened to the Eastern pantheon? All the old gods disappeared, the newly born gods were too young, and something happened in between that led to the severing of the connection between heaven and earth."
So Kamar-Taj knows nothing about what happened in the Heart of Heaven, or how it shattered into the Seven Cities of Heaven. Not only does Kamar-Taj not know, but the gods themselves don't know either. They are all too young; a significant portion of their existence has not exceeded two thousand years, so it's impossible for them to know what happened before.
"And what about the seven cities of Tiandu now?"
"The current Heavenly Court pantheon is basically located in Kunlun. They have followed the tradition of their ancestors, which is to sever the connection between heaven and earth. They have almost no contact with the mortal world. Apart from occasionally recruiting some servants and disciples—which the locals call 'seeking immortality and asking questions'—they have almost no contact with the outside world."
Strange essentially explained the situation in the Seven Cities of Heaven: nobody knew what was going on inside, not even Iron Fist himself, since he trained there and emerged as Iron Fist. Peter nodded wistfully after hearing this, then returned to his seat on the Sanctum Sanctorum sofa. This cryptic information seemed crucial; everyone could see it likely involved a major event. However, Peter was now indifferent, like someone who had become numb to the dangers of life. He already knew of so many terrible, impending disasters, one after another, and had no time to concern himself with such matters.
It's better to ask for other information.
"Speaking of which, do you really not need to give me this Bloodstone Amulet? I always feel that this thing is very dangerous. It only needs one Bloodstone from our world to summon Xisorn, so it doesn't seem very safe to keep it with me."
"Keep it. I'm also quite curious about what Lady Spider said. If you ever encounter a very dangerous enemy that prevents you from casting spells normally, you can use the Bloodstone. Trust me, it can help you solve many problems."
Peter looked at the bloodstone amulet in his hand, then asked in astonishment, "Isn't this thing made from human souls?"
“Yes, if that person is still alive, we can perform a resurrection ritual on the Bloodstone to help her repair her soul. For example, Magik is preparing for this ritual. Once it's completed, she can regain her full human soul and then use that half of her soul from the Hell Frontier to make a new weapon.”
After Strange finished speaking, he turned around and spread his hands: "But the problem is, the bloodstones in your bloodstone amulet were all made by Velasco during the Renaissance. The owners of these bloodstones are long dead, and you have nowhere to return these souls. If you forcibly restore them, then only half of the soul will remain, which could easily cause trouble. Although it's not very ethical, they've already gone through all this, so you might as well use it for spellcasting."
Upon hearing this, Peter couldn't help but sigh.
"You truly deserve to be a doctor."
Strange initially nodded, but then, considering the reputation and basic practices of American doctors, he couldn't help but glance back at Peter, staring at him for a while before turning back: "Sometimes the mission we have is far more important than the morals we uphold, Spider-Man. At least these minor moral considerations should be abandoned when truly necessary."
"Just like when you dealt with Sithon?"
Strange pondered for a moment: "No, it's much more serious than that."
