Chapter 721 Demons and Demons

Peter was diligently cleaning the church. Just as Matt had said, the small church was old and dilapidated, with many parts looking like they hadn't been repaired for twenty or thirty years. Moreover, very few people came. He cleaned the church for an hour or two but didn't see any believers come to the church.

“Although it’s not Sunday, I still find it a bit strange. According to you, this is the only church in Hell’s Kitchen, right? If it’s the only church, then there should be quite a few people here. Does that mean the people in Hell’s Kitchen aren’t Christians, but pagans?”

Peter, holding a broom, asked Matt about it, while the priest was cleaning another room. Upon hearing Peter's question, Matt simply answered him calmly.

"This isn't the only church in Hell's Kitchen; it's the only white Protestant church in Hell's Kitchen. There are quite a few Black priests in Hell's Kitchen, and their churches are quite popular. Of course, the main reason is that no one ever imagined there would be a white church in Hell's Kitchen."

After saying that, Matt half-jokingly said, "Actually, the priest himself said that he would like everyone to treat him as black, since he doesn't care about the skin color of the people who come to Mass, but unfortunately, people don't think so."

Peter shrugged when he heard this, but Matt remained sitting there motionless. Although both Peter and the priest knew that Matt was Daredevil, Matt Murdoch, as a lawyer, was just a blind lawyer. You can't expect a blind person to do cleaning.

So he just sat there, listening to Peter bustling around. Suddenly, Matt's guide cane poked the ground a few times. Peter looked at Matt, saw his mouth movements, and quickly disappeared, broom and all.

Then, someone Peter didn't expect walked into the church. It was Kingpin. He walked in without anyone with him.

"It's a pleasure to see you here, Mr. Murdoch. I'm happy to share some good news with you: my application for medical parole has been approved, and I am now free."

Kingpin sat down next to Matt, who simply replied calmly, "Temporary."

A silence fell between the two men. After a short while, Matt asked Kingpin, "So what are you doing here?"

“I just have a few questions I want answered. For example, I now know that your woman wasn’t killed by Leslie, but you did kill Leslie, yet you weren’t corrupted… Why?”

Kingpin looked at Matt, his question carrying a deeper meaning: Had Daredevil abandoned his no-kill policy?

“Because I know Bullseye won’t die, Fisk. The person who fixed his spine gave him the healing factor, and Spider-Man helped me find out about it. And compared to last time, this is nothing.”

The last time Matt mentioned was when he threw Bullseye off a high-rise building because Bullseye killed his girlfriend. In his rage, Matt genuinely believed he had killed Bullseye and even gave up Daredevil for several months until Bullseye returned alive and well.

Compared to that time, this is nothing.

Kingpin finally nodded upon hearing this. He was about to ask something, but Matt preemptively asked, "Fisk, how did you summon Ghost Rider?"

"Spider-Man asked you to ask this?"

“He is indeed investigating this, but that doesn’t mean he could have predicted that we would meet here, so I’m asking you.”

Kingpin pondered the question for a moment, then replied, "In the first half of the year, I met a man who helped me resolve some issues in prison and demonstrated some skills. So I made a deal with him and received a scroll to summon Ghost Rider." In hindsight, the deal was utterly useless. Kingpin's plan was to wait for Matt to fall, then use Ghost Rider's Penance Eye to instantly kill the corrupted Daredevil and solve the problem completely. But he hadn't expected Matt to be completely uncorrupted, just acting, and he also hadn't anticipated that the Penance Eye was ineffective against Seth.

He was instead used as a pawn by Mephisto.

Matt, who had heard this, didn't ask any more questions. Kingpin then explained his second reason for coming: "I have convinced the NYPD and the court to treat Mary, that Japanese woman, and your woman's case as a single case."

"In other words, Erica's trial result will definitely be the same as the other two. You want to make a deal: if I exonerate Erica, then the other two must also be exonerated."

For Matt, the chances of securing a not-guilty verdict for Erica are extremely high, because the Hand's brainwashing is an undeniable fact, and both the Defenders and the Avengers can provide evidence of it. In other words, Erica became a tool of the Hand's murder without her even realizing it.

However, the same reasoning could be applied to Typhoid Mary and Bullseye, and if Erica is innocent, they would also be innocent, and these people would be destined to become Kingpin's men.

Matt laughed: "Are they innocent?"

"Is your woman innocent? Sure, she doesn't know what she did, but the blood on her hands is real. How many people did she kill for the Hand?"

Kingpin paused for a moment, then continued, "Of course I know you're willing to let your woman spend a few years in prison, but we have better ways, don't we? Hell's Kitchen is yours now, you devil, do whatever you want with it. I'm leaving."

This time, Matt was genuinely surprised. He looked at Kingpin with disbelief and asked, "Where are you planning to go? Abroad?"

“New York, Matt, with the arrival of the hero era, New York has become the center of the maelstrom. The underground business is no longer suitable for the future. New York is where I should dance. I am happy to serve the citizens of New York, the people of New York, and the superheroes of New York, my friend.”

Kingpin stood up as he spoke, eagerly anticipating the trial's outcome. But before Kingpin left, Matt stopped him and asked him a question that took him completely by surprise.

What are your thoughts on the recent events involving Roxon Energy and Stark Industries?

"You're asking me?"

"Yes, Spider-Man is very interested in this, and I'd like to know why."

Fisker laughed and then gave Matt's reply: "Don't buy Roxson stock, you devil, or you'll become a devil in the literal sense."

"At least, that's what the devil himself told me."
