Chapter 32 Color Change Show
"So, the next guy I'm going to face is Mysterio? I'm really looking forward to it."

Spider-Man's brand-new suit rustled in the New York night air as he darted past the neon-lit skyscrapers. Peter had little interest in this impending foe—especially after recalling Quentin Beck's hypocritical demeanor in Far From Home. Though this universe's Mysterio differed radically from the MCU's setting and its power source, Peter simply had a preconceived notion of dislike.

What's more, the upper limit of Mysterio's power is ridiculous. It's still considered weak as shown in the movies. If it were only as strong as in the movies, it would be fine. However, in some versions, Mysterio's illusions can even interfere with Spider-Sense and manipulate other senses besides vision, completely losing people in a false reality.

"I hope the Mysterio in this universe is not so perverted..." Peter muttered. He specially upgraded the infrared vision function for Mysterio, hoping that it would be useful when the time comes.

But the problem doesn't end there.

Behind the stolen high-tech equipment, there is obviously a more dangerous character - a genius who can integrate cutting-edge technologies such as light particle projectors and neural connectors. Doctor Octopus? Norman Osborn?
Peter rubbed his temples. He still knew too little about this world.

Peter Parker wasn't the only one with similar thoughts. Detective McDonald Gargan, a notorious New York detective who specializes in collecting dirt on various gangsters and threatening them, looked up at the new Spider-Man flying overhead and couldn't help but lament his lack of understanding of him. After confirming that Spider-Man had indeed changed into a brand new uniform, he quickly called Kingpin.

"Mr. Gargan, what's going on? Have you figured out Spider-Man's true identity?"

"Not yet, Mr. Wesker."

Gargan looked around, turned into the alley and began to speak in a low voice: "But has your plan to ruin Spider-Man's reputation been launched? If not, delay it immediately!"

"I'm afraid the chameleon has already started to act on its own. Has something happened?"

"No, nothing." Gargan didn't dare to speak loudly to the Kingpin, so he tried his best to pretend that nothing was wrong and suppress his emotions: "It's just that Spider-Man changed into a new costume. If you want to continue with your plan, you have to consider a new look."

Kingpin hung up the phone, and Gargan had to continue his aimless quest to find Spider-Man's true identity. As for the plan, it was indeed as Kingpin had said, too late to abort it.

Chameleon was ready. His custom-made suit allowed him to transform into anyone he met. It was essentially a bionic artificial skin modeled after Mystique, the current leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants. It was a one-of-a-kind piece. I'd heard S.H.I.E.L.D. had similar mimicry masks, but they were definitely not as convenient as his own.

He was communicating with his special effects artist, Quentin Beck, through a tiny headset.

"Are you sure you've got the equipment set up? I see a good target."

Quentin Beck was crammed into a van disguised as a delivery truck, his back pressed against the cold metal. Two burly men held him like door gods, while three monitors in front of him displayed a real-time 3D projection of Hell's Kitchen.

"Any time, Mr. Dimitri."

The chameleon, who was walking on the road pretending to be a passerby, threw out a small round ball. The light began to change, and he disappeared without knowing it.

Not far away, two thugs were robbing a passerby. This was Hell's Kitchen, so similar things were not uncommon. But Quentin was quite curious about Chameleon's choice.

"Mr. Dimitri, why did you choose to start in Hell's Kitchen? If you want to discredit Spider-Man, shouldn't you go to a more well-known place like Times Square?"

"It's a simple truth. If you want to frame someone, you can't just do the exact opposite. That would make people suspicious." Chameleon said as he changed into Spider-Man's old uniform and picked up a grappling hook gun. "You have to make slight changes to fit the character."

"It's like mixing a drink, dear Baker. You don't put milk in whiskey. You have to put vodka in it—strong enough, but not so strong that it tastes fake."

If passers-by looked up, they would see Spider-Man swinging on the spider web, bypassing the building and entering the street. Even the sound of his landing was so real. The chameleon rolled over and, under Quentin's cover, used light projection to perfectly merge with the projection of Spider-Man who was posing.

"Guys, I have to say, can't you find a way to make money on your own?"

Spider-Man stood up and said this to the two men. Seeing Spider-Man, the two thugs quickly ran away. Then Spider-Man fired a spider silk, hooked one of them, pulled him over, and punched him directly, making his mouth full of blood. "Sorry, I didn't expect you to be so weak. Are you okay, friend?"

"Uh...I'm fine, thank you, Spider-Man."

Passersby came up cautiously to express their gratitude, and then watched as "Spider-Man" bent down, took out the gangster's wallet, took out all the money inside, and then stuffed it into his pocket.

"What are you...?"

"Nothing much. After all, being a superhero doesn't get you any salary. Do you want some? Maybe it can be used as your compensation."

Spider-Man smiled faintly, then leaped and flew away. As for the Chameleon, he didn't get far away.

Several of Jin Bing's men looked at each other in bewilderment. After all this time, this is all you're doing?
"Don't worry. We still have a lot of things like this to do today. Spider-Man fights crime, but he takes money from criminals. Is that considered stealing? Maybe, but it's not enough to shake Spider-Man's image as a hero."

"People only discuss his moral flaws, not that he's not a hero."

Dimitri laughed. The next thing was much simpler. The next step was Spider-Man occasionally making mistakes and injuring a few people. Then Spider-Man "executed" a few villains.

As the controversy over Spider-Man grows in public opinion, his performances become more and more extreme, as if the public's accusations have caused Spider-Man to explode and give up on himself. As for the arrival of Spider-Man himself, it doesn't matter. After all, what Spider-Man can see is just an illusion created by Quentin.

It was impossible for him to distinguish between himself and the illusion.

Quentin was incredibly excited about this. He could see that in the holographic projection, the Chameleon not only mimicked Spider-Man's motivations and tone, but even micro-movements like the slightly faster movement of his head were perfectly replicated.

"This, this really makes sense, Mr. Dimitri, you are simply the best actor I have ever seen... Your performance just now was so perfect, just like Spider-Man..."

Even though Quentin Beck was just a minor character that Kingpin looked down upon, Dimitri was still very pleased to hear such praise. He could tell that Quentin was actually very envious of his acting, or rather, his ability to act.

He's a very talented special effects artist, but he might prefer to be an actor.

Thinking of this, Chameleon wondered if he could use this to build a good relationship with Quentin and then bring him to his team. If he had such a special effects artist, his corporate espionage and assassination business would undoubtedly be able to reach a higher level.

Forget it, let’s help Kingpin get rid of Spider-Man first.

Thinking of this, Chameleon couldn't help laughing. He didn't know yet that Spider-Man had already changed into a new uniform.

That same evening, a post titled "Is Spider-Man starting a robbery?" began to circulate. In the grainy video, Spider-Man was seen stuffing money into his belt. Jin Bing's online troll army began to massively promote the post.

Only the chameleon was quietly observing all this.

Chameleon, first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (March 1963), is a former Soviet and Russian spy and half-brother of Kraven the Hunter. He has the ability to transform into anyone, and his true identity has never been revealed.
