Chapter 469 We must put it in!
Indeed, the Thousand Sunny began to rock irregularly. And its descent speed suddenly increased.
"What's going on?" Nami gripped the railing nervously.
"The pumice system seems to be malfunctioning!" Franky frantically adjusted the controls. "The buoyancy is fluctuating unstablely!"
"Is it a problem with the air pressure?" Robin speculated. "As altitude decreases, atmospheric pressure increases, which might be affecting the performance of the pumice!"
“That’s possible!” Borusalino also realized the problem. “The pumice in Lavala is mined and used at high altitudes; perhaps it will behave differently at lower altitudes!”
The ship was rocking more and more violently, and the rate of descent was increasing.
"Slow down! We have to slow down!" Franky shouted, frantically adjusting the position of the light stone warehouse.
But the effect was not obvious. The Thousand Sunny, like a kite out of control, plummeted rapidly towards the sea.
"Hold on tight!" Zoro shouted.
"Aaaaaah—!" Chopper was so frightened that he clung to the mast.
Just before impact, Franky managed to adjust part of the pumice system. The ship's descent slowed slightly, but it was still rapid.
"Bang!"
The Thousand Sunny crashed heavily into the sea, creating a huge splash. The ship shook violently, and everyone was thrown about.
"Is everyone alright?" Luffy was the first to get up.
"I'm fine," Nami said, standing up groggily.
"How's the hull?" Zoro asked with concern.
Franky immediately began examining her. His expression grew increasingly grim.
“This is bad,” he said. “The hull is damaged. It’s not fatal, but there are several cracks, and the pumice stone installation system is malfunctioning.”
"Can it be fixed?" Sanji asked.
“It can be repaired, but it requires specialized equipment and materials,” Franky said. “We need to find a shipyard.”
"Where is the nearest island?" Borsalino asked Nami.
Nami took out the sea chart and examined it carefully.
“According to the records,” she pointed to a location on the nautical chart, “the nearest island to us is called Green Harbor, about thirty nautical miles away. There’s a large port there, and there should be a shipyard.”
“Thirty nautical miles,” Franky assessed. “In our current condition, we should be able to make it there. But we must sail carefully and not too fast.”
“Then let’s go to Green Port!” Luffy decided.
The Thousand Sunny began to slowly sail towards Green Harbor. Although damaged, Frankie's emergency repairs allowed the ship to maintain basic navigational capabilities.
“Really,” Nami sighed. “We’ve only just left Lavara and already there’s trouble.”
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Robin comforted her. “After all, pumice is a material used in special circumstances.”
“It was my oversight,” Franky said remorsefully. “I should have considered the potential impact of changes in air pressure.”
“Don’t blame yourself,” Borsalino said. “No one can foresee everything. And your emergency response was timely, preventing more serious damage.”
"That's right!" Luffy patted Franky on the shoulder. "Franky is already amazing!"
“Thank you, Captain,” Franky said, moved.
After sailing for about two hours, the outline of land appeared in the distance.
"I see it!" Usopp shouted from the lookout tower. "The island is just ahead!"
"That's great!" Nami breathed a sigh of relief.
As they drew closer, the full view of Green Harbor gradually came into view. It was a medium-sized port town, with various ships moored at the docks and smoke billowing from the shipyard chimneys.
"Looks like a busy port," Sanji observed. "There should be a decent shipyard."
“We’ll go straight to the shipyard dock,” Franky said.
The Thousand Sunny slowly sailed into the port, attracting the attention of many people.
"That ship is so special!"
"The bow of the ship is shaped like a lion, how majestic!"
"But it seems to be somewhat damaged."
Guided by port staff, the Wanli Sunshine docked at the shipyard's dedicated pier.
“Welcome to Green Harbor!” A middle-aged man approached. He was wearing work clothes and appeared to be the shipyard manager. “I’m the manager of this shipyard, my name is Marco.”
“Hello.” Franky jumped off the boat. “Our boat was damaged during the voyage and needs repairs.”
“Let me see.” Marco walked to the side of the ship and carefully examined the hull.
When he saw the bottom of the boat, he whistled in surprise.
“This boat has a very unique design,” he said. “And it’s pumice? You’ve put pumice in the hull?”
“Yes.” Franky nodded. “We encountered some technical problems.”
“To be able to modify the ship like this, your skills are truly remarkable,” Marco said admiringly. “However, the damage is indeed quite significant. Repairs will take some time.”
"How long will it take?" Nami asked with concern.
“If all goes well, it should take about three days,” Marco estimated. “The main tasks are replacing some damaged planks and adjusting the pumice system.”
“Three days,” Luffy repeated. “Then let’s stay here for three days!”
“Then,” Marco said, “hand over the boat to us. I guarantee we’ll fix it up like new.”
“Please,” Franky said earnestly.
And so, the Straw Hat Pirates made a temporary stop at Green Port. Although they were forced to stop midway due to unforeseen circumstances, this might just be the beginning of a new adventure.
They were unaware of the stories hidden within this seemingly peaceful port town that awaited them.
That evening, the Straw Hat Pirates found an inn to stay at in Green Port. It was a small, clean inn near the port, and the price was reasonable.
"It's not as comfortable as Lavala, but it's not bad either," Nami commented.
“At least there’s a bed and hot water,” Sanji said. “I’ll go prepare dinner.”
"I want to eat meat!" Luffy immediately raised his hand.
At dinner, everyone sat together and chatted about what had happened that day.
“We were really lucky,” Robin said. “If there hadn’t been an island nearby, it would have been very dangerous for the ship to be adrift at sea after being damaged.”
“Yes,” Borsalino nodded. “Looks like luck is still on our side.”
“However, this experience has also taught us a lesson,” Franky said seriously. “In the future, when using new technologies or materials, we must take into account various environmental factors.”
“This is a good experience,” Zoro said. “Failure and setbacks are also part of growth.”
“That’s right!” Luffy grinned. “And with three days, we can thoroughly explore this island!”
"All you ever do is play around," Nami said helplessly, but her tone was full of affection.
Outside the window, night fell on Green Harbor, and lights gradually illuminated the town. The port city was especially lively at night, with laughter and singing echoing from the taverns. "This place seems interesting too," Chopper thought, peering out the window.
“Every place has its own story,” Robin said gently. “Perhaps we’ll encounter something interesting here.”
"Let's start exploring tomorrow!" Luffy said excitedly.
The next morning, the Straw Hat Pirates began their exploration in Green Port. Although their ship was still under repair, that didn't stop them from enjoying the port town.
The streets of Green Harbor are even more bustling than those of Lavala, brimming with vibrant life. The cries of vendors, the laughter of children, and the whistles of ships blend together to create a unique symphony of the harbor.
"It's so lively here!" Luffy looked around, full of curiosity about everything.
“It’s certainly a bustling place.” Robin observed the surrounding buildings and people. “It seems trade is very thriving here.”
They walked along the main street, which was lined with all sorts of shops and stalls. There were vendors selling seafood, fabrics, tools, and everything else imaginable.
"Sanji, I'm hungry!" Luffy pointed to a delicious-smelling food stall.
“You just ate breakfast,” Nami said helplessly.
"But that was half an hour ago!" Luffy said matter-of-factly.
Just as they were about to head to the food stall, a lively commotion arose ahead. A group of people were gathered around a stall, occasionally cheering or sighing.
"What are they doing over there?" Chopper asked curiously.
“Let’s go take a look,” Zoro said.
They squeezed through the crowd and spotted a unique game booth.
The stall was simply set up but eye-catching. The stall owner was a middle-aged man with a small mustache, wearing a flashy vest, and wearing a commercial smile. In front of the stall was a counter with a pile of thin wooden sticks, each about thirty centimeters long and as thick as a finger.
The most eye-catching thing was a wooden board standing about five meters behind the stall. A small round hole, only about five centimeters in diameter, was cut out of the board, and concentric circles were drawn around it, like a target.
"Come on, everyone!" the stall owner shouted. "Try the 'Accuracy Throw' game! The rules are simple: just throw the stick into that little hole and you'll win a prize!"
"What kind of prize?" someone asked.
"See that?" The stall owner pointed to the display rack next to his stall. Hanging on it were various prizes—exquisite trinkets, rare seashells, specially made knives, and some handicrafts that looked very valuable.
“These are all prizes!” the stall owner continued. “And the prices are fair! Only one hundred Berries per try! And if you hit the target, you can choose one prize!”
"One hundred Berries." Luffy's eyes lit up. "That's not expensive!"
“And those prizes look really valuable,” Usopp assessed. “If I hit them, I’ll definitely make a profit.”
At this moment, a young man was trying it out. He picked up a wooden stick, aimed for a long time, and then threw it with all his might.
The stick spun through the air toward the plank, but missed its target and crashed into the edge of the plank with a thud before falling to the ground.
"Oh dear, so close!" the stall owner said regretfully. "Would you like to try again?"
The young man shook his head and left, somewhat dejected.
“It looks difficult,” Nami said. “That hole is so small, and it’s far away.”
“It’s certainly not easy,” Borsalino assessed the distance and the size of the hole. “It requires considerable precision.”
"I'll give it a try!" Luffy suddenly shouted, squeezing his way to the front of the stall.
"Oh? This customer wants to take on the challenge?" The stall owner smiled at Luffy. "Very good, very good. Young people should have this kind of courage!"
"How much?" Luffy asked.
"One hundred Berries at a time," the stall owner said.
Luffy took out 100 Berries from his pocket and handed them to the stall owner, then picked up a wooden stick.
"Luffy, are you really going to do this?" Nami asked, sounding worried. "It looks really difficult."
"It's alright!" Luffy said confidently. "My aim is excellent!"
He raised the stick and aimed at the small hole. The hole looked tiny, appearing as a small black dot from five meters away.
"That's it," Luffy muttered to himself, then threw it with all his might.
The stick traced an arc in the air, flying towards the wooden board—then slamming heavily onto the lower right corner of the board, at least twenty centimeters from its target.
"Wow, not bad strength!" the stall owner exclaimed exaggeratedly. "But the direction is slightly off. Want to try again?"
"Of course I'll try!" Luffy retorted, pulling out another 100 Berries.
The Straw Hat Pirates members who were watching looked at each other in bewilderment.
“Luffy is serious,” Sanji sighed.
“Once he gets serious, he won’t give up until he gets what he wants.” Sauron knew his captain.
The second time, Luffy adjusted the angle and force, and threw it again.
This time the stick flew more accurately, hitting the center of the wooden board—but it still missed the hole by about ten centimeters.
"You've improved! You've improved!" the stall owner encouraged. "You'll definitely do it again!"
"Again!" Luffy pulled out more money.
The third, fourth, and fifth times
Luffy tried again and again, but each time he was just a little short. Sometimes the direction was right, but the force wasn't strong enough; sometimes the force was enough, but the angle was off. The stick just kept spinning around the small hole, unable to go in.
"Damn it!" Luffy exclaimed in frustration. "Why can't I throw it in?"
"Luffy, how about we call it quits?" Nami said with concern. "You've already spent five hundred Berries."
"No!" Luffy said stubbornly. "I'm determined to throw it in!"
"Let me give it a try?" Zoro suddenly said.
"Huh? Zoro wants to play too?" Chopper looked at him in surprise.
"Seeing Luffy like this, I want to try out just how difficult this game really is." Zoro walked up to the stall and handed the stall owner one hundred Berries.
"Alright!" the stall owner happily accepted the money. "Good luck, my fellow swordsman!"
Zoro picked up a wooden stick, and instead of aiming for a long time like Luffy, he simply glanced at the target and then quickly threw it.
The stick flew straight toward the plank, maintaining a perfect spin in the air—
"Snapped!"
The stick was inserted precisely into the small hole! A third of the stick was inside!
"Wow!!!" the onlookers exclaimed in amazement.
"It's in! It's in!" the stall owner exclaimed in surprise. "This customer is really skilled! Please choose a prize!"
"What?!" Luffy's eyes widened. "Zoro, you actually made it on your first try?!"
"It's alright." Zoro calmly walked to the display shelf. "Just like swinging a sword, find the target, control the force and direction, and you're good to go."
He chose a delicate little knife as the prize.
