Chapter 458 Invading Lavala's Airspace?
"Pursue!" Borsalino gave it no chance to breathe and continued firing lasers.
Under the relentless attack, the abyssal crocodile finally succumbed to fear. It let out a final roar, then swiftly submerged, fleeing into the deep sea.
"It ran away?" Usopp asked incredulously.
"Uncle Kizaru is amazing!" Chopper cheered.
"Whew," Borsalino landed back on the ship, clearly exhausted. "Finally got it gone. But that thing was tenacious; my attacks didn't inflict a fatal wound."
"But at least it won't dare come back for the time being." Nami breathed a sigh of relief. "That means the people underwater are safe."
"By the way, how are they?" Borsalino thought of his companions who were still at the bottom of the sea.
Just then, bubbles began to rise from the sea, and several figures emerged from the water.
"They're back!" Luffy shouted excitedly, even though he was still weak.
Franky, Robin, Zoro, Sanji, and Tony surfaced one by one and swam toward the ship.
"How is it?" Nami asked quickly. "Have you collected enough pumice stones?"
"We've collected them!" Franky exclaimed excitedly, holding up a large net bag filled with pumice. "Three huge bags, all high-quality pumice!"
"Great!" everyone cheered.
They pulled the net bag onto the boat, opened it, and found it full of black pumice, shimmering with a mysterious luster in the sunlight.
“These pumice stones are of even better quality than what we collected before,” Tony inspected. “And there’s plenty—more than enough to get your ship flying into the sky!”
"Thank you all for your hard work." Borsalino looked at the pumice stones and smiled with satisfaction. "This mission was completed beautifully."
“Uncle Kizaru had it tough!” Chopper exclaimed. “He took on such a huge sea monster all by himself!”
“Indeed.” Sauron nodded in agreement. “If you hadn’t held it back, we wouldn’t have been able to collect the pumice so smoothly.”
“This is the result of teamwork,” Borsalino said modestly. “Everyone played an important role.”
"By the way, did you encounter any trouble at the bottom of the sea?" Nami asked.
“A few sharks bothered us, but Zoro and I took care of them.” Sanji lit a cigarette. “Everything else went smoothly.”
"What about that abyssal crocodile?" Wayne asked cautiously. "Was it really driven away?"
“Yes,” Borsalino confirmed. “It’s badly injured and won’t be back anytime soon. You can now safely operate in that area.”
"That's wonderful!" Wayne was so excited he almost cried. "The threat that has plagued this sea area for so many years is finally gone!"
"Let's hurry back to camp!" Franky exclaimed impatiently. "I'm going to start modifying the Thousand Sunny!"
The small boat returned to the pirate camp fully loaded. When the other pirates heard that the Abyss Crocodile had been defeated, they all cheered.
"That demon is finally gone!"
"We can go to the seabed to mine pumice!"
"These people are incredibly strong!"
The pirates looked at the Straw Hat Pirates with awe and gratitude in their eyes.
For the next two days, Franky devoted himself entirely to the refitting of the Thousand Sunny. With Tony's assistance, they meticulously designed a pumice stone installation plan.
“The pumice must be evenly distributed across the bottom of the boat,” Franky said as he drew the design plans. “And we need to leave room for controlling buoyancy.”
"How do you control it?" Robin asked.
“Use movable pumice chambers,” Franky explained. “By adjusting the position of the pumice chambers, you can control the ship’s ascent, descent, and direction.”
“I see.” Robin understood. “It’s like adjusting the airbags on an airship.”
“That’s right!” Franky exclaimed excitedly. “And I’m also going to install thrusters so I can maintain maneuverability in the air.”
Under Franky's command, the pirates helped with the modifications. They carefully installed pumice stones on the hull, making sure each one was securely fixed.
“This area needs reinforcement,” Franky said, pointing to a spot on the hull. “It experiences significant wind pressure when flying.”
"Understood!" The pirate craftsmen immediately sprang into action.
Luffy watched excitedly from the side. "Our ship can fly! That's so cool!"
"Once the renovation is complete, we can go to Sky Lavala!" Chopper was also looking forward to it.
Two days later, the renovation of the Thousand Sunny was finally completed. The entire hull was inlaid with a large amount of pumice, which shimmered with a black luster in the sunlight. Adjustable pumice chambers were installed on both sides of the hull, along with a new propulsion system.
"Modification complete!" Franky announced proudly. "Now it's time for testing!"
Everyone gathered at the dock, looking expectantly at the Thousand Sunny.
"Ready?" Franky stood on the ship, his hands on the controls.
“Anytime!” Nami replied.
"Then, take off!"
Franky activated the Light Stone System. Instantly, the hull began to vibrate slightly, and then slowly lifted off the water.
"It's flying!" Usopp exclaimed.
The Thousand Sunny rose steadily, one meter, two meters, five meters, ten meters. Soon it reached a height of twenty meters.
"Awesome!" Luffy jumped excitedly on the deck. "We're really flying!"
"Adjust the light stone chamber and continue rising!" Franky continued his operation.
As the ship continued to ascend, the scenery became increasingly expansive at 30 meters, 50 meters, and 100 meters, offering a panoramic view of the entire sea.
"The visibility is amazing!" Nami exclaimed, gazing at the distant horizon. "The ocean looks truly spectacular from this height!"
“And it was very smooth,” Robin commented. “You could barely feel any bumps.”
“That’s the magic of pumice,” Franky explained. “It not only reduces weight, but it also absorbs some of the vibrations.”
The Thousand Sunny continued to ascend, two hundred meters, three hundred meters, five hundred meters.
"The altitude is sufficient!" Nami said, looking at the altimeter. "Now let's test the mobility!"
Franky activated the thrusters, and the ship began to move through the air. Forward, backward, left, right—all movements were fluid.
“Perfect!” Franky exclaimed with satisfaction. “The Thousand Sunny is now a true spaceship!”
On the dock below, the pirates looked up at the Thousand Sunny in the sky, and everyone was amazed.
"That ship really was flying in the sky!"
“It’s incredible!”
"That's a real pirate ship!" Wayne exclaimed, his eyes filled with envy and admiration as he gazed at the ship in the sky. "With a ship like that, they'll definitely find Sky Lavala."
The test lasted for an hour, and after confirming that all systems were functioning properly, the Thousand Sunny slowly landed back at the dock.
"Test successful!" Franky announced excitedly. "We're ready to head to Sky Lavala at any time!"
"Great!" Luffy exclaimed eagerly. "Let's go now!"
"Don't rush," Nami stopped him. "We need to replenish our supplies and get a good night's rest. We'll set off early tomorrow morning."
“Nami is right,” Borsalino nodded. “Flying to Skyravara could take several hours; we must be fully prepared.”
"Alright then." Luffy was anxious, but he understood everyone's concerns.
That evening, Wayne prepared a grand banquet to send off the Straw Hat Pirates.
"Thank you for helping us eliminate the threat of the Abyssal Crocodile," Wayne raised his glass in a toast. "And best of luck on your journey to Sky Lavala."
"Thank you!" Luffy said, taking a big bite of meat. "You guys are good people too!"
“If you succeed, remember to come back and tell us,” Tony said. “I really want to know what Sky Lavala looks like.”
“Definitely!” Robin promised. “We will bring back detailed information.”
The banquet lasted until late at night, the atmosphere lively and warm. These pirates, once enemies, were now friends.
The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight shone on the sea, the Straw Hat Pirates were already fully prepared to set sail.
The Thousand Sunny was docked at the pier, fully loaded with supplies and provisions. Everyone stood on the deck, ready to begin a new adventure.
"Alright, let's go!" Luffy announced loudly.
"Good luck to you!" Wayne waved goodbye to the pirates on the dock.
"Take off!" Franky activated the Light Stone System.
The Thousand Sunny slowly rose into the air once more, flying towards the direction of Sky Lavala under the watchful eyes of the pirates.
"Next stop, Sky Island!" Luffy stood at the bow of the ship, his eyes filled with anticipation.
The Thousand Sunny soared higher and higher, the sea receding into the distance. Clouds drifted around them, and the sky grew even bluer.
The Thousand Sunny cruise ship traversed through the clouds, surrounded by a thick white fog. As it ascended, the air thinned and the temperature dropped noticeably.
"It's so cold," Chopper said, pulling his coat tighter. "And it's a little hard to breathe."
“That’s normal,” Nami explained. “The higher the altitude, the thinner the air and the lower the temperature.”
“According to the altimeter, we’ve reached 900 meters,” Franky reported. “We’ll be at target altitude soon.”
"Everyone, get ready!" Borsalino warned. "We don't know how the inhabitants of Sky Lavala will react. We need to be prepared for anything."
"Won't it be dangerous?" Usopp asked nervously.
“Probably not,” Robin reassured her. “According to ancient records, the inhabitants of Lavara are gentle and peace-loving.”
“But that’s a record from 800 years ago,” Sauron cautioned. “So many years have passed, who knows what they’ve become.”
"Anyway, let's greet them politely first," Luffy said optimistically. "If they're good people, we'll be friends. If they're bad people, we'll beat them up!"
"Luffy, stop thinking about fighting all the time," Nami said helplessly.
Just as they were talking, the Thousand Sunny broke through the last thick layer of clouds.
The sight before them stunned everyone.
A massive island floated in the air, radiating a dreamlike glow under the sunlight. The entire island was enveloped in a soft halo, as if shrouded in a thin veil.
"So beautiful," Nami murmured.
The island is vast, estimated to be at least several square kilometers in size. It is covered in lush green vegetation, with rolling mountains, verdant forests, and winding rivers. Most striking is a colossal structure in the center of the island—a city built of black stone, shimmering with a mysterious luster in the sunlight.
"That's Sky Lavala!" Robin's eyes welled up with tears. "We really found it!"
“That’s incredible!” Franky exclaimed. “The whole island is flying!”
"And it looks vibrant with life." Sanji observed the island's vegetation. "This means there are indeed humans living on this island."
"Let's get a closer look!" Luffy couldn't wait.
Franky carefully maneuvered the Thousand Sunny, slowly flying towards Lavala in the sky. As they approached, they could see the details of the island more clearly.
The city, built of black stone, was magnificent, with an ancient yet elegant architectural style, consistent with the style of the underwater Lavara Temple. Countless towers and spires could be seen throughout the city, and its crisscrossing streets were clearly meticulously planned.
"The building is so well preserved!" Robin exclaimed in amazement. "It hasn't decayed in 800 years."
“It’s probably due to the properties of pumice,” Borsalino speculated. “It reduces the weight of the building and also reduces wear and tear.”
"Look over there!" Zoro suddenly pointed to the edge of the island. "There are people there!"
Following his pointing finger, everyone looked and could indeed see some figures moving around on the edge of the island. These people were dressed in simple, ancient clothing and seemed to be engaged in some kind of work.
"Have they found us?" Chopper asked nervously.
They soon got their answer. A blinding light suddenly shone from the edge of the island, followed by a sharp whistle that echoed through the sky.
"An alarm?" Nami's expression changed.
The next second, more than a dozen small aircraft flew out from all directions of the island. These aircraft had a unique design, resembling giant birds with their wings flapping in the air, and were clearly manufactured using pumice technology.
"What are those?" Usopp asked, his eyes wide.
The aircraft rapidly approached the Thousand Sunny, forming an encirclement around it. Each aircraft was staffed by fully armed warriors, who held spears and bows and arrows, vigilantly watching the unfamiliar ship.
"Halt!" a loud voice boomed through a megaphone. "Who are you? Why have you intruded into Lavala's airspace?"
"We're not enemies!" Luffy shouted back. "We're just here for a visit!"
"A visitor?" The voice was full of skepticism. "Lavara has been isolated from the outside world for 800 years! Anyone who comes without permission is an intruder!"
“But we really meant no harm!” Nami shouted. “We’re here to find the history of Lavara!”
“All intruders say the same thing!” another voice shouted. “Land immediately and submit to inspection! Otherwise, we will use force!”
The soldiers on more than a dozen aircraft drew their bows, aiming the arrows at the Thousand Sunny.
"What should we do?" Chopper looked at everyone nervously.
“Let’s land,” Borsalino said calmly. “A fight here would cause a lot of misunderstandings.”
