Chapter 457 Eight-foot Jade Ornament!
Chapter 457 Eight-Foot Jade Curved Jewel!
The seawater was crystal clear, and the vague outline of the seabed could be seen below. But deeper in, it was all darkness, and nothing could be seen at all.
“I’ll go down and scout ahead,” Borsalino said. “You all wait for my signal on the ship.”
"Be careful," Nami warned worriedly.
"Don't worry." Borsalino jumped into the sea.
The icy seawater instantly enveloped him, but he did not fully submerge. Instead, he used his light powers to create small platforms underwater, allowing him to move forward with leverage.
He quickly descended, his eyes adjusting to the darkness of the seabed. Only scattered rays of sunlight pierced through the water's surface, creating dreamlike pillars of light.
Fifty meters, forty meters, thirty meters.
Borsalino continued his descent. He could feel the increasing water pressure, and breathing was becoming increasingly difficult. But he gritted his teeth and persevered; he had to find out what was happening on the seabed.
As he approached the seabed, he finally saw the legendary pumice vein. It was a region of black rock, gleaming strangely in the dim light. The vein stretched far and wide, at least several hundred meters long.
"Such a huge vein!" Borsalino exclaimed. "No wonder the pirates said it was rich in reserves."
But the next second, his body suddenly stiffened.
Something enormous is moving in the trench next to the mine.
The thing slowly emerged in shape—an incredibly large creature.
Abyssal crocodile.
It was larger than Wayne had described, at least 120 meters long, and covered in black scales, each as large as a washbasin. Its eyes were dark red, gleaming with a bloodthirsty light.
The most terrifying thing about it is its mouth. When it opens its huge jaws, it reveals a dense array of sharp teeth, each one as sharp as a sword.
Borsalino held his breath, trying not to make a sound. But the abyssal crocodile seemed to have already sensed the intruder's presence.
It slowly turned its head, its dark red eyes staring straight at Borsalino.
The next second, the sea monster suddenly opened its huge mouth and let out a deafening roar!
The roar of the abyssal crocodile created a powerful shockwave in the water, making Borsalino's eardrums ache. The massive impact of the water nearly caused him to lose his balance.
"This guy is definitely not someone to mess with." Borsalino steadied himself and quickly assessed the situation.
The massive body of the abyssal crocodile began to move, its tail swaying in the water, creating huge whirlpools. Its speed was astonishing, completely unlike the agility expected of a creature of such a size.
"Flash Kick!"
Borsalino's feet glowed, and a golden beam of light streaked across the water. Although its power was greatly reduced due to water resistance, it still struck the side of the Abyss Crocodile.
However, the hard scales almost completely negated the damage from the attack. The beam of light struck the scales, causing only a few sparks and no real harm.
"The scales are so hard?" Borsalino asked, somewhat surprised.
Enraged by the attack, the abyssal crocodile whirled around and charged at Borsalino with its gaping maw wide open. That enormous mouth was large enough to swallow a small boat whole.
"The Yata Mirror!"
Borsalino transformed into light, refracting and moving through the seawater. Although his speed decreased significantly in the water, he still narrowly avoided the attack of the abyssal crocodile.
The enormous teeth make a terrifying sound when they bite down, and the consequences of being bitten are unimaginable.
“Good, their attention is all on me.” Borsalino dodged while observing the sea monster’s movements. “Now it’s time to lure it away.”
He began moving away from the pumice vein, occasionally firing beams of light to attract the attention of the abyssal crocodile.
On the ship, everyone waited anxiously.
"Uncle Kizaru has been down there for a long time," Chopper said worriedly, looking at the sea. "Will something happen to him?"
"I hope everything's alright," Nami said, a little uneasy.
Just then, the sea suddenly began to churn violently, and a huge column of water shot into the sky.
"What is that?!" Usopp pointed at the sea in horror.
The next second, the massive body of the abyssal crocodile burst out of the water! It leaped twenty meters high out of the sea, its black scales shimmering with a metallic luster in the sunlight.
"Wow, it's huge!" Everyone was stunned.
Wayne's face turned pale: "It's out. It did the same thing last time, dragging my men out of the water one by one."
The giant crocodile crashed heavily back into the sea, creating huge waves that violently rocked the small boat.
"Hold on!" Zoro gripped the gunwale tightly.
Immediately afterwards, Borsalino also leaped out of the water, transforming into a golden ray of light that sped across the sea.
“Now!” he shouted to the men on the boat. “I’ve lured it away! Go down and collect the pumice!”
"Understood!" Franky immediately put on his diving gear.
Robin, Zoro, and Sanji also put on their diving suits and checked the oxygen equipment.
"I want to go too!" Luffy exclaimed.
"No!" Nami stopped him. "You're a Devil Fruit user; going underwater will cause problems!"
"Damn it." Luffy could only stay on the ship unwillingly.
“I’ll stay here to provide backup,” Nami said. “Be careful!”
“Tony, lead the way,” Franky said to the pirate craftsman.
“Okay!” Although Tony was scared, he bravely put on his diving gear.
The five people jumped into the sea one by one and quickly dived. The cold water and pressure made them feel uncomfortable, but they gritted their teeth and persevered.
Tony led the way, with the others following closely behind. Underwater visibility was quite good; they could see beams of sunlight filtering through the sea.
“Stay close to me!” Tony said through the communicator on his diving gear. “The vein is down there!”
They continued their descent, and the surrounding light gradually dimmed. By the time they reached a depth of forty meters, it was already quite dark. But with the help of their waterproof lights, they finally saw the seabed.
A black rocky area came into view—that was the pumice vein. The vein stretched far and wide, and under the light, the unique textures on the rock surface could be seen.
"This is it!" Tony exclaimed excitedly. "Let's start collecting!"
Franky took out his special tools and began to chisel out the pumice. Although these stones were light, they were very hard and required special tools to mine.
Robin uses the power of the Flower Flower Fruit to grow multiple arms on the seabed to help collect broken pebbles.
Zoro and Sanji were responsible for keeping watch and preventing other dangerous creatures from getting close.
"We need to be quick!" Zoro warned. "I wonder how long Kizaru can hold off that sea monster."
Meanwhile, far from the mine, Borsalino is battling a giant abyssal crocodile.
The sea monster's speed was truly astonishing, moving through the water like a black arrow. It relentlessly pursued Borsalino, attempting to tear this tiny human to shreds.
"Tsk, this guy is really persistent." Borsalino dodged while thinking of a countermeasure.
Simply running away isn't a long-term solution. He needs to buy enough time for his companions to collect enough light stones. But in the water, his abilities are severely limited, making it difficult to inflict effective damage on the abyssal crocodile.
“Since the scales are so strong,” Borsalino’s eyes suddenly noticed the sea monster’s belly. “Then the weakness must be there.” The abyssal crocodile opened its blood-red maw and charged again. This time, Borsalino didn’t dodge completely but passed underneath it.
"laser!"
A powerful laser beam shot from his fingertip, striking the belly of the abyssal crocodile. Sure enough, the scales on its belly were much thinner, leaving a charred mark on the surface.
"Roar--!"
The giant crocodile of the abyss roared in pain and pursued Borsalino with even greater rage.
“Looks like we’ve found its weakness.” Borsalino smiled with satisfaction. “But we’ve also thoroughly enraged it.”
The sea monster's attacks became even more ferocious, its massive tail sweeping across the water and creating powerful currents. Borsalino had to concentrate fully to avoid these deadly attacks.
On the seabed, the collection work is in full swing.
“We’ve collected quite a bit!” Franky said, looking at the pile of pumice. “But it’s still not enough.”
“We need more,” Tony said. “At least three large bags.”
Robin's arms worked tirelessly, filling the mined pumice stones into specially designed net bags. These net bags were specially designed so that they wouldn't float away even when full of pumice stones.
"Something's getting closer!" Zoro suddenly shouted alertly.
Everyone immediately went on alert. In the dim water, several shadowy figures swam rapidly towards them.
"Sharks!" Sanji recognized the creatures. "And more than one!"
Five or six enormous sharks surrounded them. Each of these sharks was four or five meters long, with sharp teeth showing from their open mouths.
"Damn it!" Zoro drew his sword. "Drawing a sword underwater is very inconvenient."
"Let me do it!" Flames began to erupt from Sanji's legs. Even underwater, his Diable Jambe could still burn because of the high temperature generated by friction.
"Demon Wind Kick - Fireball!"
He kicked the nearest shark, sending it flying with tremendous force. However, in the water, Sanji's movements were noticeably slower, and the power of his attack was greatly reduced.
"Three-Sword Style - Demon Slash!"
Zoro swung his sword at another shark. The blade sliced through the water, encountering resistance, but still managed to strike its target. The shark let out a silent scream and tumbled away.
"Keep collecting!" Zoro shouted to the others. "Sanji and I will deal with these sharks!"
Franky and Robin continued mining the pumice, and Tony picked up tools to help. The remaining sharks were driven away by Zoro and Sanji, but more sharks gathered, drawn by the smell of blood.
"This is never going to end!" Sanji said, somewhat annoyed.
“This area is likely shark hunting grounds,” Robin said as he worked. “Our presence has startled them.”
"I can't worry about that anymore!" Zoro swung his sword again. "Anyone who dares to come near will be cut down!"
Time passed slowly, and they collected more and more pumice. But the depletion of oxygen began to worry them.
"How much longer can the oxygen last?" Franky asked Tony.
"About twenty minutes left." Tony glanced at the oxygen gauge. "We need to speed things up."
"Hang in there a little longer!" Robin encouraged. "We've already collected quite a lot."
In the distance, the situation in Borsalino was beginning to become dangerous.
The continuous fighting had exhausted him, and he was unable to breathe properly in the water, so he began to feel chest tightness.
"I can't go on like this." He realized he had to surface for air.
But just as he was preparing to surface, the abyssal crocodile suddenly changed its strategy. Instead of attacking directly, it began to swim around him, forming a huge whirlpool.
"Oh no!" Borsalino found himself trapped in the center of the vortex.
The powerful current trapped him, pulling him back with every attempt to escape. This was the hunting technique of the abyssal crocodile—trapping its prey in a whirlpool before delivering a fatal blow.
"Yata no Kagami - Full Power!"
Borsalino exerted all his strength, his body transforming into the most intense light, attempting to break free from the vortex's grasp. The light refracted in the water, forming a dazzling net of light.
Finally, after expending a tremendous amount of energy, he successfully broke through the whirlpool and burst out of the water.
"Haha." Borsalino gasped for breath, trying to catch his oxygen.
But the giant abyss crocodile followed closely behind, its enormous body bursting out of the water once more, its gaping maw opening wide in the air.
"Damn it!" Borsalino had nowhere to grab hold in mid-air and was about to be bitten.
"Rubber rubber—rocket!"
A figure suddenly flew from the ship next to them—it was Luffy! He grabbed the mast and used his rubber ability to launch himself forward, punching the Abyss Crocodile in the head.
Although the force of the punch wasn't fatal to the sea monster, it was enough to change its trajectory. The abyssal crocodile veered off course and crashed heavily into the sea, creating a huge splash.
"Luffy?!" Borsalino looked at Luffy in surprise as he fell through the air.
"Uncle Kizaru, watch out!" Luffy shouted from the air, then fell into the sea with a "plop".
"This idiot!" Borsalino immediately transformed into a beam of light and rushed over, grabbing Luffy before he sank.
Devil Fruit users lose their powers when they fall into water, and Luffy is currently completely unable to move. Borsalino drags him along, swimming quickly towards the ship.
"Pull him up quickly!" He pushed Luffy to the side of the ship.
Nami and Usopp quickly pulled Luffy onto the ship.
"Luffy, you idiot!" Nami yelled while trying to help. "You knew you were a Devil Fruit user and you still jumped!"
"Cough cough. I think Uncle Kizaru is in danger." Luffy coughed up a few mouthfuls of water and said weakly.
"Never mind, let's not talk about it now." Chopper checked Luffy over. "Luckily, he only swallowed a few mouthfuls of water."
The giant crocodile resurfaced, but this time it seemed more cautious. Luffy's punch, though not powerful, had made it realize that it wasn't alone in its fight.
"Listen up, everyone!" Borsalino shouted. "Change the plans! I'm ending this fight!"
He took a deep breath, and his body began to emit a dazzling golden light. Even in daylight, the light was blinding.
"The Eight-Foot Jade Ornament!"
Countless laser beams shot out from Borsalino's body, raining down like a shower of light. Although their power was reduced on the water's surface, such a dense attack was something even the Abyssal Crocodile could not completely defend against.
The laser struck the sea monster's body, particularly its weak point in the abdomen, causing numerous wounds.
"Roar--!"
The giant crocodile of the abyss let out a painful howl, blood gushing from multiple wounds on its body. It finally realized that this enemy was not easy to deal with and began to retreat.
