You were made to farm, and now you're the emperor of an empire?

Chapter 3: The Loyal Knight Betrays His Lord

Chapter 3: The Loyal Knight Betrays His Lord
【Life and Life Story】is a management simulation game.

You need to master more than a dozen life skills.

In Roman's view, these life skills are very important.

These days, whoever masters various skills masters advanced productivity.

The way to gain experience points and improve skill levels is also very simple: participate in daily work and slowly gain experience points in the process.

Improve your [Construction] skill by building houses and decorating them;
Increase your [Planting] level by cultivating and harvesting crops;
Improve your Gathering skill by chopping down trees and mining veins...

Furthermore, the [Life Story] system includes milestone rewards—you can obtain Primogems after upgrading your skills.

Besides this, the only other way to obtain Primal Stones is through conversion using Extraordinary Resources. However, Roman was unaware of the effects of Primal Stones and did not act rashly—he also lacked the funds to recharge, as Extraordinary Resources were very rare.

The skill milestone resources that can be obtained for free are very important for Roman right now.

Upgrading a skill from level 1 to level 2 will earn you 500 Primogems, which is equivalent to instantly gaining five more days of login rewards.

However, based on Roman's personal experience, improving skill level is likely to be a rather lengthy process.

He spent most of the day working, but only gained 10 experience points in [Construction].

It takes 100 experience points to level up from level 1 to level 2.

These 10 experience points may seem like a small amount, but they are still somewhat useful.

With each experience point he gained, he acquired a little more knowledge about civil engineering and construction.

Innate Earth and Wood Sacred Body!

Although he worked for less than a day, Roman's final performance was like that of a skilled construction worker who had been in the business for several months. He was extremely efficient and could do the work of ten people, which surprised the slaves so much that they could hardly tell who the slaves were.

Otherwise, Roman might not have been able to build the five wooden houses before nightfall.

Although it was very simple—the four walls were built of logs, the roof was sloping, and finally thatch was placed on top, it could only keep out the wind, not the rain.

To the nobles, it was a terrible sight, so ugly that there was nowhere to step.

But in Roman's eyes, these wooden houses embodied the fruits of his labor, simple and unadorned, so he was satisfied with them no matter how he looked at them.

“My lord, if I may be so bold, your status is not suited for doing these things; it is not in accordance with noble etiquette.” A sigh came from behind Roman.

After accepting the investiture, Roman naturally brought a team from home to ensure he had someone to rely on when he got the fief.

However, the resources allocated to him were not very generous.

Two armored knights, one butler, two clerks, one cook, three kitchen helpers, five male slaves, and five female servants, totaling 19 people.

Finally, there were five fine horses, a carriage, and various daily necessities.

Including Roman himself, the number of people barely reached 20.

For an ordinary nobleman, these resources would be excessive.

But for the illegitimate son of the Cracked Armor, it seemed rather shabby.

Although there are many people, there are only two war knights and one deacon who are the true insiders. Only these three are people trained by the Rift Armor family.

The two clerks were civilian employees selected by Roman; their employment was on a contractual basis.

Cooks, male slaves, and female servants were of lowly status and could only be considered private property.

The speaker was Deacon Seth, who was responsible for assisting Roman in managing his fiefdom and property.

Sais, nearing forty, had a solemn expression, stood ramrod straight, and dressed impeccably in wrinkle-free clothes, appearing both clean and professional. He was also the only one present who didn't join Roman in carrying the logs.

Roman laughed and said, "If aristocratic etiquette can help me build an estate out of thin air, then I don't mind using it."

Seth had once served as a tutor in the Cracked Armor family, and was Roman's etiquette teacher. However, he was rigid, focused on elegance, and was not likable—otherwise, Roman wouldn't have picked him up. He valued the latter's rich management experience and didn't care about Seth's lectures at all.

This old fellow is a true gentleman, the kind you can bully like a saint. Roman then looked at the two knights chosen from his family for their conquest.

One was named Aaron, and the other was named Green.

Neither of them were officially knighted or granted any title, but they were incredibly strong and, being young, had a promising future and were considered to be among the most promising talents.

"Pack your things and get ready to check in," Roman said to the two.

Green found it unbelievable: "You really want to stay here?"

Roman scoffed, "Otherwise, why would I build the house before dark?"

Mohr wiped the sweat from his brow. After spending most of the day together, he sensed that Roman didn't intend to banish him to the pigsty, so he suggested, "Lord Roman, Sir Knight, if you don't mind, you can stay in Sgar Town tonight..."

“I find it unacceptable,” Roman interrupted, waving his hand.

Medieval market towns were practically pigsties; even dogs wouldn't stay there. It was better to sleep in the wild, where at least you could breathe clean and hygienic air.

When the knight named Aaron saw that Roman was determined, he turned around, drove the carriage up, and began to unload the luggage.

Green said quietly, "I don't mind."

Roman glanced at him sideways: "Then go ahead, but don't come back."

"As ordered!"

Green had a look of grim determination on his face, and then said loudly to Moore, "Lead the way."

"Huh?" Moore looked blankly at Roman and Green, then at Aaron who was unloading the luggage, and at Seth who looked like he couldn't bear to look at him.

One sentence led the knight to betray his lord.

Was I the one sowing discord?
Mohr was deeply shocked.

"This..." Moore looked troubled. Was he being tested for loyalty? If he really took Green there, Roman would immediately smash his cup as a signal, and five hundred axemen would jump out of the bushes and chop him into mincemeat.
But even the Knights of Conquest are considered to be of a high rank by him.

Green walked toward Moore, and then Roman kicked him.

He stumbled, turned around and looked at Roman with resentment. "It's one thing for you to suffer here, but you're also preventing me from finding another place to stay."
Roman glared at him.

Green is essentially a scion of the Cracked Armor family, having received special training from them since childhood. His chances of betraying them are far lower than if Roman pulled a six-star character from a single draw.

Roman is tolerant, but Green was corrupted by him – they grew up together and influenced each other, otherwise Green wouldn't have said such rebellious things.

Roman stopped Green from acting recklessly and turned to Moore, saying, "You can go now. Come early tomorrow; I have something to tell you."

Having said that, he waved his hand and dismissed Moore and the group of slaves.

Mohr hesitated, his life temporarily spared. But he harbored doubts about the future, feeling that this was not a proper nobleman.

After racking their brains without success, they had no choice but to leave with their men.

The slaves were also amazed, feeling that today was the most dreamlike episode yet.

Do you know the newly appointed lord? I carried logs with him.

Who would believe it?
……

After seeing Mohr off, Roman's chef had prepared dinner, which was not lavish, but it was passable.

There's not much to say about room allocation.

Roman was given a single room, the two knights and the butler each had a room, and the rest were assigned freely.

With the arrival of early spring, the earth has only recently begun to revive, and there are not many mosquitoes.

A few wooden planks were laid out to make a makeshift bed. Roman lay on the bed, studying the game interface and functions, and didn't fall asleep for a long time.
