Apocalyptic Disaster: Stockpile Supplies for Free and Make a Comeback
Chapter 7 Time Management Master
Chapter 7 Time Management Master
"Should we discuss with them where to go?" Zhang Yi noticed Peng Zhixue's unusual mood and spoke cautiously in a softer tone, "It's going to rain heavily again."
The last sentence jolted Peng Zhixue awake. "Oh, okay."
That's right, half the city was flooded, and he couldn't go home alone, nor could he survive.
Song Jinhe rolled down the car window halfway, and the smell of decay, along with the dampness, swept into the car. Large shards of glass on the upper floor were shattered, and billboards hung in the air, swaying back and forth.
“There’s a plaza nearby. The supermarket on the basement level is probably flooded. There’s a parking lot on the third floor.” Cheng Yan looked at the tall buildings ahead.
Song Jinhe had no objection. The supplies she needed were there. What was terrifying at this time was not the floodwater, but the zombies in the water. Anyone who went into the flooded area was doomed.
Cheng Yan told the two people in the car next to him their destination and started the car first.
A cold wind swept through the quiet street.
Rumbling--
Thunder roared and raindrops fell from the clouds.
As the car drove into the dark parking lot driveway, the headlights turned a corner, and a row of rotting zombies came into view.
Cheng Yan felt a chill run down his spine, slammed on the brakes, and frantically flashed his turn signals to signal the cars behind him to back up.
A large group of zombies swarmed forward, pounding on the hood and desperately climbing up.
The car swayed left and right, its body screeching against the walls. After finally managing to get out of the parking lot, the zombies at the intersection of the two streets all rushed towards them.
"What to do, what to do?"
Peng Zhixue stared at the dense horde of corpses, his lips twitching, his face completely devoid of color.
They're stuck here, unable to move forward or backward; staying here means certain death! If he'd known he was going to die here, he would have stepped on the gas and sped away!
Song Jinhe grabbed the handle above to steady herself. "In places like this, there are unloading entrances in every area. Just circle around and look."
Upon hearing this, Cheng Yan paused, then quickly turned the steering wheel to avoid the zombies. "I roughly know where it is."
Lightning flashed across the churning black clouds, and the number of zombies gradually increased. Before being trapped and unable to move, Cheng Yan turned into the alley.
Song Jinhe got out of the car with a crowbar, lifted the half-open roller shutter door, and let them drive the car in.
The zombies were close behind. As soon as the car behind entered the gate, one of them ran in. Faced with a zombie whose mouth was full of blood, Song Jinhe had no choice but to retreat. With a 'plop', the tip of the crowbar sank into its body.
The horde of corpses surged in from outside the roller shutter door like a tidal wave.
"Close the door!" Song Jinhe shouted.
The zombie, held against the crowbar, took two frantic steps forward and nearly scratched her face with its claw.
She let go, allowing the zombie to skewer into the crowbar like a kebab. Then, suppressing her nausea, she went around to the back, pulled out the blood-soaked crowbar, and stabbed it into the brain through its eye socket.
Peng Zhixue panicked when he saw so many zombies running towards him. He only came to his senses when he heard Cheng Yan's urgent call. Together with Cheng Yan, they quickly pulled the door shut before the main force rushed in.
Bang, bang bang,
The thin metal door shook violently under the impact, and a section of it was even dented in the middle.
Song Jinhe was panting heavily, clearly feeling the warmth flash across her wrist.
"How are you?" Cheng Yan asked. She shook her head, took off her coat from the dead zombie, wiped the blood off the crowbar, and then took out a half-empty bottle of water that someone had left in the car to wash her hands.
This is the unloading area, which has clearly been ransacked. They only found a few iron bars, a multi-tool screwdriver, a wrench, and a chain, which is just enough to reinforce the roller shutter door.
Song Jinhe took out two boxes of self-heating rice and a cup of instant noodles from the trunk, and then took out a stainless steel lunchbox from her spatial storage to boil water. She also secretly put some of the supplies into her spatial storage.
The self-heating rice was divided in half among everyone. Everyone watched her put it into a bag. There were only two boxes, so it wasn't convenient to store them in her spatial storage. The zombies wouldn't be able to get in for a while, so it was better to eat them first, so that there wouldn't be a chance to eat them later.
Cheng Yan and his friends also took four sausages, juice, and a cup of instant noodles, and used some wood planks to start a fire.
Having not had a hot meal for several days, everyone was getting restless as they watched the steam rising from the vents.
Half a serving of self-heating rice wasn't enough to fill my stomach, and there was also instant noodles to go. After being hungry for so long, the satisfaction from the hot food, hot dishes, and drinks dispelled a lot of my anxiety and fear along the way.
After finishing their meal, they each stuffed some food into their pockets, grabbed crowbars and steel bars, and headed towards the exit through the employee passage.
"Why don't we stay where we were and wait for the zombies outside to leave?" Peng Zhixue asked nervously, looking around while holding the iron rod. "This place is winding and dark."
"The way in is blocked by zombies, so the car and everyone else have to get out." Cheng Yan's voice echoed in the quiet, dark environment. "If things get bad and you panic and frantically search for an exit, your chances of survival are even lower."
They didn't see a single window along the way; the only source of light was the nearly dead flashlight in Cheng Yan's hand. They were on tenterhooks the whole way until they finally saw the 'Emergency Exit' sign, pushed open the fire door, and arrived on the second floor of the mall.
Relieved not seeing any zombies, Zhang Yi excitedly walked towards the shelves. "Finally, I can change into some clean clothes. This feels a bit like having the whole place to myself. I never dared to imagine this before the apocalypse. I don't have to worry about money. I can take whatever I want from the mall."
"It's best to find some warm clothes, the temperature might drop later," Song Jinhe said casually.
While they were changing clothes, she packed hiking backpacks, waterproof and non-slip hiking boots, Doc Martens, windproof jackets, and outdoor down jackets and pants that could withstand temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius into her storage space, regardless of color or style, as long as the size was suitable.
In order to stockpile supplies, she became a master of time management.
While visiting the intimate apparel store, I also took the opportunity to visit a bedding store and bought a down comforter and a spring/autumn comforter that were on sale out of season, as well as two blankets and a small pillow.
I also found two bottles of mineral water, a few mints, and a solar-powered bamboo lantern in the cash register, and tested it to see if it could light up.
Seeing so many supplies made me realize how urgent the need to expand the space was!
Fearing that taking too much would be too obvious, Song Jinhe went to another underwear store. It didn't matter if her outer clothes were a little dirty, but underwear was related to her health. She took dozens of pieces at once, which didn't even take up as much space as a thick quilt.
Zhang Yi walked out of the fitting room and went to the back warehouse to see what supplies were still inside.
As soon as she opened the door, the stench of a corpse assaulted her senses. Before she could even call for help, the 'corpse' dressed in a saleswoman's uniform on the ground suddenly stood up, roared, and lunged at her.
"what!!!"
Zhang Yi screamed as she was pinned to the ground by a zombie.
The putrid mouth drew closer to her face, the sallow face magnified in her vision, and thick, black liquid dripped from between the zombie's teeth onto her collar.
With trembling hands, she used a baseball bat to desperately block the zombie's neck. She could clearly see that the skin on the zombie's neck had been torn open in its struggle to eat fresh food, and its throat was exposed.
