Apocalyptic Disaster: Stockpile Supplies for Free and Make a Comeback
Chapter 40 Residential Building
Chapter 40 Residential Building
There were many cars parked outside the gas station, as well as many zombies, so their car couldn't get through.
Without electricity, the gas pumps at gas stations won't work; you have to go to the tanker area.
Seeing Song Jinhe find the right method so easily, a hint of surprise flashed in Jiang Shi'an's eyes.
"You don't look like you're doing this for the first time." What ordinary female college student would know how to steal oil?
This was her first time buying fuel for free; the memory wasn't there.
Song Jinhe screwed the lid on and put the bucket into her spatial storage, making up an excuse, "I used to read a lot of things like doomsday rules online."
When Zhuang Ting arrived with his men, Song Jinhe had already collected most of the supplies needed by the convenience store next to the gas station. She stood there watching them study the supplies for a while, looking like she didn't know who they were, where they were, or what had happened.
After they finished, I helped them load two small buckets of oil into the trunk.
It will be dark in less than two hours.
They don't plan to go back now. They've finally made it into the city, so they're definitely going to loot as much as possible.
Gas stations are prone to explosions and are not suitable for overnight stays.
Finally, they found an old residential building with a "Rooms for Rent" sign lying on the ground, the words covered in blood.
Before even reaching the top of the stairs, I saw a corpse on the ground with some rotting flesh hanging from it, and flies were still buzzing around it.
"Are you sure the place you found is okay?" someone in Zhuang Ting's team questioned Song Jinhe.
“There’s nowhere absolutely safe right now.” Song Jinhe’s expression remained unchanged. “Otherwise, where do you suggest we go?”
They couldn't even get into the residential houses with security doors, and there were no garages to park trucks, so the conditions here were considered good.
There are three floors in total. The zombies in the building need to be cleared out before dark, otherwise the zombies will clear them out.
As darkness fell, the glass at the corner of the stairs was broken, leaving only a peeling wooden frame. When the cold wind, carrying raindrops, blew in, the misaligned window frame would creak.
These old houses with this kind of structure don't get much natural light, giving people the feeling that even without zombies, there are ghosts.
The feeling was even more explosive when you opened the door and saw zombies.
Qi Sixing felt a chill run down his spine. To find a place like this, they must be incredibly talented.
On the third floor, Song Jinhe walked to the innermost part and saw a zombie squatting down, gnawing on a rat. The eerie chewing sound echoed in the corridor.
She handed the crowbar to Cheng Yan, took out a hammer from the backpack she had on her front, and struck him.
boom--
The zombie's head made a loud bang and fell to the ground. Before it could get up, her kitchen knife pierced into it.
Zhao Yanzhou's eye twitched, and for some reason, he felt a slight headache coming on.
Before nightfall, all the zombies in the building were cleared out. There was a rusty iron door on the second-floor staircase; closing it and locking the bolt made it safer.
Most of the rooms here are empty, and even the single rooms with beds are unusable.
Upon entering, an indescribable stench assaulted the nostrils, enough to make one vomit.
Song Jinhe turned on the bamboo hand lamp that she had charged before leaving the house. In the warm yellow light, on the messy single bed, lay a highly decomposed corpse, the sheets soaked with bodily fluids.
Black and white hair and scalp fell off, revealing the top of the head covered in black liquid. The skin on his hands was stuck tightly to the bed sheet, and when he lifted it up, the whole piece came off.
"It's alive!" Cheng Yan had never seen anything like it before, and instinctively jumped back.
Its upper body was raised, and a piece of its face was peeled off.
Finally, Jiang Shi'an calmly stepped forward and dealt with the zombie. He closed the door and went to the next room. Clothes and medical records were scattered all over the floor. There were no corpses or unbearable stench, only a broken window—enough to make do for the night.
Cheng Yan picked up the medical record from the ground and glanced at it in the dim light. His expression suddenly turned serious. "I've seen this patient before. He died in the hospital on the third day after the zombies appeared. He was a very kind old man who liked to practice Tai Chi. He was supposed to be discharged this weekend."
This disaster has changed the original trajectory of too many people.
Song Jinhe ate a mint candy, stared at the curtains swaying by the window, and said nothing.
They ate self-heating rice from the truck at night. There were still 10 hours until dawn. They were supposed to take turns keeping watch, but they couldn't sleep at all, even though they were exhausted from the day.
Song Jinhe found a clean blanket in the closet, wrapped herself in it, and sat on the old wooden sofa, waiting for dawn.
If you were alone in this environment, you would be terrified.
In the latter half of the night, there were crows cawing, crashing sounds, and a sobbing sound from the wind blowing through the buildings.
No one spoke, and after a long silence, I got sleepy. Just as I was about to fall asleep, my head drooped and I woke up with a start. This happened several times, and I finally fell asleep against a piece of soft fabric.
Just before dawn, Song Jinhe woke up, realized who she was leaning on, and quickly sat up straight.
"Awake?" A cool voice brushed past my ear on the wind.
Song Jinhe nodded. "Mm."
Fortunately, it was dark, so the guilty look on her face couldn't be seen.
"You've been awake the whole time?"
Jiang Shi'an responded softly.
It was past five o'clock. Song Jinhe stood by the window and looked outside. Everything seemed normal.
Less than an hour later, it was daylight outside.
As they were about to drive away, they noticed that in the building next to them with the word "demolish" written on it, half a body was hanging from the ceiling in the middle window on the fifth floor.
At first glance, it looks like there's a living person greeting them, but in reality, they've become zombies.
When a person dies in this way, their body decomposes and can no longer support itself, causing their lower body and internal organs to fall off.
The three cars slowly drove away, and the struggling faces in the rearview mirrors gradually disappeared from their sight.
After driving for half an hour towards the city, I could vaguely see cars stuck in traffic on the overpass, with mud, sand, and garbage left behind after the floodwaters receded, as well as living corpses below.
Song Jinhe saw that the terrace of a building was covered with solar panels. When she went up, she found that most of them had been damaged by things that had been blown in by the strong wind. Only a few panels remained in the corner. All of them were moved into the truck.
Zhuang Ting and his team searched another police station, but judging from their expressions, they probably didn't find anything.
"At that time, all the rescue teams that Wucheng could mobilize had been sent out, and so much time has passed, any remaining supplies would have been looted long ago," Jiang Shi'an said calmly.
Even if it's an armory that ordinary people can't find, the situation won't be good. The weapons he took out of the city were from the experimental zone. It's a pity he didn't meet Song Jinhe sooner.
Not long after, Song Jinhe killed a zombie on the road and looted a magazine and a grenade from its body. If it weren't for the fact that the level 3 helmet and clothes were stuck to the flesh and couldn't be removed, she would have taken them with her.
The expressions on the faces of Zhuang Ting's team members could no longer be kept up.
"No, we've cleared out several zombies that might be equipped with gear, but we couldn't find anything. How could she have found it?"
"They were lucky, they found the truck too. It can't be that she knew which zombie had supplies."
Zhuang Ting was also puzzled. The police station at the hospital hadn't gotten as much as she had from killing a single zombie. Who could she complain to?
