Apocalyptic Disaster: Stockpile Supplies for Free and Make a Comeback
Chapter 11 Coming
Chapter 11 Return
"Don't worry, you managed to get here through the horde of zombies, so you'll definitely be fine," Yang Minghao reassured him. "By the way, where did you park the car? Is it still possible to get out from there?"
"We can't get out." Peng Zhixue sighed and shook his head. "The zombies are blocking the way."
Yang Minghao then subtly inquired about who had the car keys. After receiving the answer, he frowned. It didn't matter whether the three people came back or not, as long as they left their belongings behind.
"Do you think the zombies in that area might have already dispersed?"
As Yang Minghao spoke, he observed Peng Zhixue's expression, trying to find out where the car was parked. "Did they go back to where they parked, take the supplies, and drive away?"
People are all afraid of being left behind.
Peng Zhixue's heart skipped a beat. "No way."
"Hey, I was just guessing, don't overthink it."
Mingming was clearly wavering, yet still wouldn't reveal more information. Just as Yang Minghao was about to add fuel to the fire and continue speaking, the chain on the door inopportunely moved.
Upon hearing Cheng Yan's voice, Peng Zhixue quickly moved his things aside to open the door for them. Seeing that the three were safe and sound and were carrying two large bags of supplies, the expressions on everyone's faces were quite interesting.
Song Jinhe and the others returned to their room and divided their belongings. Peng Zhixue, holding the clothes his companions had specially brought for him, was filled with mixed emotions and recounted Yang Minghao's probing questions word for word.
"They want to go to the shelter. Should we go with them?" Zhang Yi asked Song Jinhe.
"I'm going to leave the city once the floodwaters recede," Song Jinhe said, pulling out a map.
The shelters in Minghai City didn't last long; once the city fell, it became difficult to get out.
Bathhouses cannot be used for long-term living. They still have rainwater now, but when drought comes, even basic survival needs will be a problem.
In the rest area, as the group talked, their eyes kept glancing back at the spot where Song Jinhe and the others had walked.
“They brought back so much stuff, and even asked for Sister Zhou’s noodles. They’re the only ones here who don’t lack food or clothing. In this cold weather, they didn’t even bring back some clothes for everyone. They only think about themselves.”
“It was normal for them to ask Sister Zhou for food before, but now they have so much food, and Sister Zhou has a child. I heard they don’t even need the medicine themselves, so this is just helping out.”
“You can’t just ask for the things you’ve given away back,” Sister Zhou said, looking troubled.
A passerby couldn't help but say, "Why didn't anyone help Sister Zhou find medicine at the pharmacy? It's a life-saving item. If someone really wanted to take advantage of her situation, they wouldn't have just asked for that little bit."
“What Xiao Li said makes sense.” Sister Zhou looked away sullenly.
She didn't think much of it at first, but seeing how many supplies they brought back, and thinking about how little she had left, it felt like a thorn was stuck in her heart, and the more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt.
-
Song Jinhe had only slept for a few hours when she was woken up by a knock on the door. When she opened it, she saw that in addition to Cheng Yan and the others, there were several other people standing outside, some of whom had brought their children.
"I heard you found a lot of food yesterday?"
Before the overly familiar woman could continue, Song Jinhe spoke up knowingly, "You want to know where you found them, right? There are quite a few in the mall next door. You'd better go as soon as possible."
Tian Hui's smile froze. Who would ask where she could find supplies? It's too dangerous to go out!
Originally, they weren't looking for Song Jinhe, but rather for Zhang Yi and Cheng Yan, who seemed easy to talk to, from next door.
Unexpectedly, the two people said that they had found the supplies together and couldn't make the decision, so they approached Song Jinhe again. The man next to Tian Hui cleared his throat, "Little Song, what we mean is, could you spare some food for us? There wasn't much left from the kitchen, and so many days have passed. If you're so capable, you can find food outside. We really have no other choice."
"We know it's not easy to find food. It's okay for us adults to eat less, but we have children to take care of. Otherwise, we wouldn't have felt comfortable asking you for this."
A hint of sneer flashed across Song Jinhe's eyes; she really didn't see any embarrassment in them.
"Look, how about this, we'll consider it a loan and pay you back when we find something to eat."
"You should be able to spare some food here," Sister Zhou said, her eyes darting away and her voice very soft.
She was initially embarrassed to come, but she was also afraid that others would take all the things and she would get nothing if she didn't come.
Seeing that Song Jinhe remained silent, Tian Hui took the young child's hand and whispered, "Xiao Han, why don't you go ask your older brother and sister if they'll share some food with you?"
"Don't ask anymore, it's not good."
Song Jinhe's cold tone startled everyone. They hadn't expected her to be so heartless, carrying two large bags of things but unwilling to share any with the children. Wu Dayong was right to scold them, saying these people might as well die outside.
"I've already told you where the supplies are. I need to rest."
If they wanted to work together to move the remaining supplies from the restaurant back to the bathhouse and then divide them equally, that would be fine. Four people couldn't carry that much stuff back, and her space was already full.
You can't get it for free.
Seeing Song Jinhe close the door with a cold face, everyone's expressions turned ugly. Tian Hui's son even went up and kicked the door twice as if to vent his anger.
Song Jinhe turned around and opened the door, her tone cold, "Keep an eye on him, or I won't be polite."
"How can she be so heartless? How can a grown woman have the nerve to argue with a child?" Tian Hui said irritably.
Having not gotten what they wanted from Song Jinhe, everyone turned their attention back to Zhang Yi and Cheng Yan.
"Please help me, Cheng Yan. My child calls you 'brother,' and you're a medical student. You must not be able to bear seeing my child suffer from hunger and cold."
Cheng Yan's palms faced forward, a sentence echoing in his mind: "Advising someone to study medicine will bring down a calamity."
"If you're looking for supplies, I can show you the route. We can't spare any food."
Once someone takes it, they'll take it a second time, a third time. In this apocalypse, everyone is living hand to mouth, and no one will tolerate someone who isn't related to them. His experience in the hospital showed him the wickedness of human nature.
After all that talking, they didn't even get a single grain of rice. As they left, they couldn't help but make some sarcastic remarks. Two hours earlier, some people had already set off with bags, as the weather was getting colder and they needed supplies.
Those who haven't left are either observing or still have supplies that can sustain them for a few more days.
In the evening, seeing that the people who went out had brought back food, Tian Hui and her group went out again with their families. Looking at the children with round eyes, Qiu Ling and the others felt embarrassed to refuse and took out a few pieces of handmade noodles.
"Thank you so much! You guys are so kind, unlike Xiao Song and his group. They not only didn't want to lend us food, but they also said they would be rude to the children!"
Tian Hui spoke enthusiastically until she closed the door, at which point the gratitude on her face vanished. "She brought back so much stuff, and all she got were two plates of noodles. Humph."
Everyone should be on holiday by now~
The male lead has appeared, but he hasn't met the female lead yet.
