Chapter 10 Special Zombies
Seeing the bloodstains on the bathroom floor, everyone consciously slowed their pace. Their teamwork improved dramatically that day, and they could stand in their positions and prepare without saying a word.

Song Jinhe tapped the ground twice with a crowbar, and the zombie roared. The last compartment door opened, and the zombie that was gnawing on the limbs looked at them, its wide-open mouth showing its anger at being disturbed.

Cheng Yan was in charge of closing the door and wedging the zombie in the gap. Zhang Yi, suppressing her fear and nausea, gripped the knife and stabbed it into the zombie's chin.

Corpses and lively zombies are two different things, and putting them into practice requires extremely strong mental fortitude and courage.

Slippery black blood dripped down the knife, causing the entire door to shake.

Seeing that the zombies were impossible to kill and almost managed to escape through the door, Zhang Yi was at a loss. Her right hand trembled as she tried to pull out the knife, but it was stuck in her bone and she couldn't pull it out.

Song Jinhe braced herself against the door, and Cheng Yan grabbed Zhang Yi's hand to help her, causing the zombie to fall to the ground and remain motionless.

"I," Zhang Yi, held the kitchen knife, my face full of guilt, hesitant to speak.

Song Jinhe raised her hand and pushed open the door. "Take your time. It's normal to make mistakes."

When she first arrived, she saw zombies eating people and was equally terrified and at a loss.

There's no need to distinguish between men and women at times like this. They can go into the same restroom one after the other to take care of their business, and then return to the office together.

They moved the folding bed and blankets they found to the innermost private office, ate something simple, and then Song Jinhe hung a ceramic cup on the doorknob.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, it was pitch black. Only when lightning flashed could one see the dilapidated city. The wind and rain grew fiercer, and the sounds of tumbling metal sheets and heavy objects falling to the ground rose and fell, creating an unsettling atmosphere.

boom!
A sudden gust of wind, accompanied by cold rain and shards of glass, rushed into the office. A4 sheets of paper were flung into the air amidst the howling wind, and the sound of ceramic falling to the ground was completely drowned out.

Song Jinhe grabbed the flashlight beside her and sat up abruptly. Several windows in the office area were broken, and it was difficult to even stand still in the wind. She couldn't hear what Cheng Yan was saying at all.

"Go to the break room!"

When Song Jinhe opened her mouth, her entire respiratory tract was cold, and her face was almost distorted by the cold air.

The chair and computer by the window were blown out, and the folding bed overturned after they left.

As if the house was leaking on a rainy night, before they could move to the tea room, Song Jinhe vaguely heard a shrill roar and the sound of scratching at the door outside, and her expression suddenly changed.

Click-clack, the door panel spun wildly.

They had encountered zombies that could open doors before at the hospital, but this was the first time they had seen one with such a piercing scream.

Zhang Yi looked tense. "Are there zombies outside? What's with the noise?"

“It’s a zombie,” Song Jinhe said in a deep voice. “It’s likely to attract more zombies; we have to kill it.”

What she meant by "very likely" was definitely true—this was a special kind of zombie with even greater agility! Song Jinhe hadn't expected that this kind of zombie would appear so early, and that they would just happen to run into it.

Seeing the rickety wooden door, Song Jinhe made a quick decision, "Let it in, and you all guard the door."

Cheng Yan hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "I'll count to three, and you'd better be ready."

"one,"

"two,"

"Three!" As soon as the door opened, zombies and the howling cold wind rushed in at the same time. Several zombies entered, and Cheng Yan and Zhang Yi couldn't control them. They could only do their best to hold the door down.

The shadows of the two zombies were reflected on the wall, making them appear exceptionally tall and ferocious. They swiftly pounced towards Song Jinhe, who was standing directly in front of them.

Seeing this, Song Jinhe retreated to the floor-to-ceiling window, which was now just a dark hole, and dodged to the side. One of the zombies lost its footing and was swept away by the surging wind, crashing to pieces in the thick darkness of the night.

The remaining zombie was the special one. It changed direction and jumped at Song Jinhe. Song Jinhe quickly used a crowbar to block the rotting face that kept getting closer to her.

The nauseating stench of a corpse filled my nostrils, and the crisp, clattering sound of teeth chattering was right beside me.

If she takes a few more steps back, she will fall off the building with the zombie and be smashed into a bloody pulp. If she doesn't retreat, the zombie, enhanced by the nighttime buff, will surely bite off several pieces of flesh from her body.

Cheng Yan and Zhang Yi were too busy taking care of themselves to come and help.

She was already very close to the window.

A fierce, cold wind swept across his back, making the veins on Song Jinhe's forehead stand out.

The zombie's teeth almost touched the tip of her nose. She frantically flipped her body over to switch places with the zombie, pushing it forward until it retreated to the window and lost half its foot.

At this moment, Song Jinhe put the crowbar into her spatial storage, causing the zombie to lose its support. She then grabbed the steel frame of the window sill in time to stabilize herself and avoid being pulled down.

Before her lay terrifying darkness and raging wind and rain. She felt no warmth in her body, and her legs were trembling. Taking advantage of a brief lull in the wind, she quickly moved away from the window. Without even a moment to catch her breath, she took out a crowbar and cleared the zombies from the door crack, then helped Cheng Yan and Zhang Yi close the door.

When they entered the cramped tea room, the three of them were soaked to the bone. Luckily, they had brought waterproof and warm clothes with them, so they could just wipe themselves off with blankets. Otherwise, the night would have been unbearable.

Song Jinhe dismantled a wooden drawer to start a fire, and boiled old ginger in water, giving each person a cup to ward off the cold.

The slightly spicy hot water entered her mouth, and the fear in her heart eased a lot. She had almost died just now, and her head was still a little dizzy when she thought about that height. If it weren't for the weather and the fact that the floor-to-ceiling windows were gone, the three of them combined would not have been a match for this special zombie.

It can be said that fortune favors the bold.

Killing a special zombie expands the space available to you more than all the zombies you kill in a day combined.

The wind and rain continued to rage in the latter half of the night, and it even felt like the whole building was shaking. Song Jinhe didn't dare to close her eyes at all.

The next morning, when they came out of the break room, they saw a messy office; the carpet was soaked with water, and a cold wind was blowing in.

The situation outside the window was equally dire; the tin roof had been ripped off, and the glass sunroom was completely destroyed, leaving only a ruined city in sight.

"It's getting colder and colder. Let's grab our things and head back." As soon as Song Jinhe opened the door, a zombie with only bones left in its left arm lay by the door. She raised her hand and began to finish it off.

The three quickly packed the administrative district's supplies into travel bags, and on their way back, they stopped at a clothing store to put on a thick coat.

Inside the bathhouse, Peng Zhixue paced anxiously back and forth in the staff passageway.

He was afraid that no one would open the door when Cheng Yan and the others returned, so he stayed here all night wrapped in two quilts, but he still hasn't seen anyone.

"They haven't come back yet. Looks like they're in danger," someone said from the side, sounding rather gloating.

"It's best if they don't come back." Wu Dayong glanced at the silent iron gate. He was actually grateful to the zombies; it was best if they didn't eat all of those people. If they left half of them, they would have to crawl.
