Chapter 60 Mishi's Encounters

Chapter 60 Mishi's Encounters

"Gu..."

Tentacles crawled from the ground toward Vanessa.

When the massive body was only a few meters away from Vanessa, there was a "whoosh" sound, and two binding straps shot out from its shadow toward the ceiling, curving around Shoggoth.

Hector grabbed them with both hands, and the bent restraints immediately tightened.

"Shadow... gurgle..."

Before Shoggoth could shrink, Captain Reagan emerged from the darkness, his three binding straps working in tandem with Hector to entangle the roots of the tentacles, creating a tight knot.

"Ugh——!"

Shoggoth let out a high-decibel scream as its body was constricted. It was unclear whether it was still breathing; the only indication of its pain was the chaotic, frantic movement of its tentacles as it was tightly bound by the restraints.

The restraints tightened further, squeezing its flesh and skin until they turned a pale, explosive color. The dim, yellowish light that resembled an eyeball burst from the twisted organ and fell to the ground, shattering into invisible dust, scattering vicious, twisted, and disordered energy in all directions.

The tentacles pounded the floor and walls frantically, shaking the entire space like an earthquake. The ceiling lights shattered one after another, and glass clattered down.

But it had nowhere to escape. Vanessa used her floating hand to pull out more binding straps, reaching into the gaps between the dancing tentacles to wrap around Shoggoth's body.

"Crash..."

The sound of falling glass shards and gravel changed from dense to sparse, and Lin An, who was hiding behind Caroline, peeked out with half his face.

Shoggoth had been subdued by the three men. Some of its tentacles broke off, while others retracted. It shrank into a fleshy ball surrounded by restraints amidst the blood-soaked ground, its body trembling slightly with each breath.

During the battle, Lin An recognized Vanessa's mystery; a green panel appeared above her head.

[Name]: Fortaguya
[Rating]: Disaster Level E

Radiation level: 47.9%
[Pollution Level]: 38.4%
[Medium]: The seeker of knowledge

In mythology, Fthaggua is described as an unstable blue fireball with a group of servants called "Flame Spirits," which resemble bursting crimson lightning. They drain energy from all intelligent beings they capture, causing the bodies of those drained to quickly burn.

At the same time, the essence of fire will also gain the memories and knowledge of the dead. These thoughts will be aggregated into a nest-like collective will, with each individual being a component of that will.

As they accumulate and absorb knowledge, they become increasingly intelligent and cunning.

Vanessa and Lin An both belong to the "Seeker" medium. Under the projection of "Comers", her mysterious manifestations are two abilities: "touch cognition" and "burning absorption".

By touching the dead or the living, Vanessa obtained fragmented information about them.

Her identification ability was naturally not as intuitive and comprehensive as the system's, and due to her low mystery rating, she was also unable to digest most of the knowledge absorbed by the Flame Essence.

What a waste of the "Oath Angel" entry.

Currently, her level of contamination is less than 40%, and the image of the Flame Essence is still a relatively concrete "hand." As the level of contamination increases, they will become more abstract and difficult to describe in words.

Judging from her previous conversation with Cadernas, it seems that the higher the degree of corruption, the stronger the mystery of the Cthulhu system.
What an unconventional type...

Having successfully suppressed Hughes, the captain whispered a few words to the two men, then turned to Lin An, issuing orderly instructions from within the cold black mist.

"Caroline, please lock Gamma-012 in the isolation chamber. Newcomers, please assist with the re-controlling of Gamma-012. Lin, you also need to transport Delta-027. We will maintain communication."

“Yes, Captain,” Caroline replied absentmindedly.

Reagan sighed almost imperceptibly and summoned his two other companions to head to the next battlefield.

The Shoggoth, bound tightly by restraints, was about two meters tall and two and a half meters long. Caroline stretched out two hands covered in fine down and exerted force from the front. Two white wings with spots replaced her eyes, like a guide cane, and touched the obstacles behind her.

Mishi and Lin An, with a rabbit on his head, rolled behind Shugos to help carry the load.

Aside from the free mystics, the other out-of-control mystics weren't that terrifying. After all, not every mystic was sane, aggressive, or organized. With the efficient "recovery" by the defense and control teams, the Foundation's buildings were no longer in complete chaos.

No one spoke, and the three maintained a solemn atmosphere until Lin An broke the silence.

"Commander Caroline, are you alright?"

Mishi glanced at the silent blonde out of the corner of her eye, and after receiving her tacit approval, answered for her.

"She may not have recovered yet."

"what happened?"

"The story begins before the invasion of the Free Mystics. I was in the elevator on the basement level at that time."

If Cardenas knew this from beyond the grave, he would surely roar in fury: So it was you who hoarded the elevator!

All the bad luck tonight started because he failed to get on the evacuation elevator!

"You went to the basement?" Lin An asked in surprise.

"Browsing the products in the redemption system is like organizing a shopping cart on an e-commerce website; it's very addictive. I was afraid you'd get impatient during the day, so I didn't get to see everything I wanted. At night, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, really wanting to go again, but I don't have the permissions of a full-time employee."

Mishi licked her lips awkwardly.

"So I went into Caroline's bedroom and begged her to take me there once."

“It’s a great relationship.”

“I wish she hadn’t agreed, so we wouldn’t have—” Mishi paused, her tone filled with frustration, “run into the Witch of Bavomet.”

"You saw the witch?!" Lin An's eyes widened. The witch was involved in the melee?
Why didn't anyone from the foundation mention her?
Mishi carefully considered her words and briefly recounted her experience from half an hour ago.

…………

Caroline was casually teasing X in the hallway.

Mishi's ten fingers flew across the keyboard, displaying square images of the items she was redeeming. These images flashed past her eyes, vibrant and colorful, like the dreams of the Eagle Kingdom deep within a young girl's heart.

"Should I buy a villa by the sea or by the mountains in the future?"

Mishi's gaze lingered on several land deeds. She rested her chin on her left hand and tapped the mouse with her right, checking their corresponding points. She couldn't help but gasp.

"So many! -- No problem, at my attendance rate, I can buy a house in Beverly Hills in another 83 years!"

The blinding electronic light danced on the walls of the exchange warehouse, reflecting a dazzling array of colors. The colorful refractions bounced around in the circular room, stinging Mishi's eyes.

She shook her head and looked away from the computer screen.

A strange young man appeared in a corner of the exchange warehouse, his back to her.

His skin was beeswax-colored, and his face was somewhat blurry; no matter how Mishi focused his pupils, he couldn't make out his features.

"Are you an employee here?" Mishi asked.

The boy didn't react at all, and a strange thing happened: he was clearly standing still, but Mishi could see both his "front" and "back" at the same time.

He raised his right hand, thumb and forefinger touching, hands level with his chest, arms slightly bent. He closed his eyes one by one from right to left, his tongue curled up, and a strange, obscure, and awkward buzzing sound flowed from his lips.

“Dharma…”

Just as Mishi took a step toward him, the sound of a light bulb exploding rang out, and the lights in the exchange warehouse went out all at once.

When the lights were restored to normal, the boy was gone.

Suddenly, an absolute silence fell over the surroundings.

"Ha ha……"

Immediately afterwards, a surging howl shattered the silence, and a strange figure appeared, replacing the boy's ethereal and serene face. Mishi quickly rubbed his eyes.

The creature that appeared this time was no longer an indistinct image, but a real creature.

The woman was half-human and half-goat, with three heads and four legs.

The head at the very center is vibrant and alluring, with pencil-thin eyebrows that droop gently over black beetle-leg eyelashes, and perfectly manicured gold-red nails that are languidly tucked into nougat-brown hair that falls gracefully and smoothly over her long swan neck.

Besides this movable head, her other two sheep heads were made of dyed metal and wood, with gilded paint simply outlining the facial features.

When she opened her mouth with calamine-coated lips, her alluring, husky voice was like a whispered pillow, kissing Mishi's earlobe.

"Hello dear."

“Uh, ma’am, are you also an employee of the Direct Facing Department?” Mishi snapped out of her daze and hesitantly extended her hand. “I’m Melissa Slaine, a new employee. It’s nice to be your colleague.”

The strange, mysterious figure chuckled in a low, hoarse voice.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Melissa Slaine,” she said. “My name is Eullary Isor, or, as you may call me, ‘The Witch of Bavomet’.”

"A witch!" Mishi was struck dumb, and immediately yelled into the communication device, "Caroline! Caroline! It's terrible, a witch has invaded the Foundation!"

However, there was silence on the other end of the communication device.

“I put her to sleep, hoping she can find true happiness in the illusion.” The witch maintained her pleasure.

Mishi glanced at the dark exit some distance away, then at the smiling witch, and knelt down with a thud, clasping her hands together in prayer.

"Blessed Virgin Mary, I am dying! How unfortunate my fate is!"

"Do you want to live?" the witch asked with a gentle smile.

Mishi nodded vigorously.

"Then, follow in my footsteps. Be a free and unrestrained mystery." The witch's velvety black eyelashes blinked lazily, as if inviting Mishi to come closer.

Poaching!
Mishi gasped, smelling the scent of cinnamon and rose petals emanating from the witch, and nervously fiddled with her fingers.

Do self-employed, free-spirited individuals receive the five social insurances and one housing fund?

"We have nothing but freedom. We have nothing to give you but your own freedom. We have no laws but the sole principle of mutual aid among individuals. We have no government but the sole principle of free association."

"What about the salary and benefits?"

“I am a sharer, not an owner. You must be alone, naked, like a child coming into the world, forgetting the past.”

Mishi stared blankly at the noble and strange witch, her lips moving.

"I'm sorry, Witch, but I still think the Foundation's work is better..."
