Chapter 54 An Incomprehensible Deal

Chapter 54 An Incomprehensible Deal

"The weather has cleared up; I should take this opportunity to return to the hotel."

Why go back?

"If we don't figure some things out, we'll all suffer, just like right now—"

As Lia spoke, she gripped her cane tightly, countless eyes darting beneath her skin, seemingly eager to break through that thin "barrier."

At the entrance of the Baisheer Tavern, a woman dressed in a business suit with a white scarf hanging at her collar stood there in the pouring rain. This woman was Daisy, the room service girl from the previous inn.

“Mr. Kercha, it seems you’ve been away from the hotel for quite some time.”

"What, you even have to meddle with these things? It's raining so hard outside, it's not gentlemanly to let a lady stand in the rain. Would you like to come in and talk?"

"No need for that. I'm here to let you know you're back at the hotel. We've prepared a special gift for every guest..."

"How long are you going to keep pretending? Just tell me your purpose directly, that's the most straightforward thing to do."

Ria stepped forward, and Steyr also crossed his arms meaningfully: "This guy is definitely not here for anything good, not to mention that it is a female fish-man who is the main force in reproduction."

At this stage, they have probably already laid eggs and are just waiting to search for nutrients to provide vital energy for their offspring.

"Hey friend, you're not really planning to go with it, are you?"

Riah paused for a moment, then walked toward the door under Steyr's surprised gaze, but stopped just a hair's breadth away from the downpour, and drew a sun symbol on his heart in front of Daisy.

"Pregnant women shouldn't get too wet in the rain," but when the subject of this sentence becomes a fish-man, it becomes—pregnant women shouldn't stay in dry places for too long.

So, madam, you don't come in because this place would make you uncomfortable, but you haven't shown any of those signs at the hotel.

Have you gotten weaker? No way.

Is it because the due date came early? I don't think so.

Ria glanced at the other's flat stomach: "Since the first two possibilities have been ruled out, it means that you are currently just a split entity. Perhaps taking action against you will have unexpected results—"

Before he finished speaking, Ria suddenly swung her cane at the side of the other person's neck. The force of the blow was enough to sever a normal person's spine, but it only made a dull thud when it hit the other person's neck.

"Crack, click, click."

A few broken fish scales fell to the ground.

Daisy's body was quickly covered with fish scales, her gills opened and closed rapidly, and there were irregularly distributed bluish-green blood vessels in the diaphragm of her fins. If you looked closely, you could even see the blood pulsating inside them.

“Mr. Kelcha…” Daisy grinned, revealing one of her sharp, corrosive fangs, her voice still clear and sweet, “It’s time to go back to the hotel. We’ve prepared a lovely gift for each guest, and your room key will expire if you don’t return to the hotel for a long time.”

"Tsk, as expected of a split entity, all it does is repeat nonsense."

"The female fish are larger and much more aggressive than the males, so be careful!"

Seeing this, Steyr quickly took out a gun from his bag and fired a shot at the fishman. When he saw Ria turn around, he quickly explained, "I'm using this for self-defense! I don't usually shoot people."

Even if we admire the extraordinary, sometimes these things are more practical, aren't they?

Ria didn't deny it, taking a few steps back to distance herself from the fishman. Meanwhile, Steyr was still firing shots at the seaman fishmen. "At this point, put away your pity. Don't be polite to them. You know, most seaman fishmen are male, but when there's a lack of females, the males will automatically change sex and become female—"

Who knows what their original sex was?!

"I didn't pity them, but thanks for the reminder anyway."

Ria noticed that the parts of the fishman that were hit by the bullets were covered with a thick layer of scales. Compared to the male fish, it was indeed much larger, but its color was not as bright as the male fish's silver. Rather than silver, it was more like a grayish sand camouflage.

“Mr. Kercha, please come back with me. If you don’t, your room card will expire and you won’t be able to collect your gift.”

The merman maintained his professional smile, his body riddled with bullet holes, but even the bullets couldn't penetrate the defenses of his scales. Instead, they either got stuck in the scales or fell to the ground with a "thud" sound.

“This hardness is clearly abnormal!” Steyr pulled the trigger a few times, found that the magazine was completely empty, put down the gun and muttered, “If Gro were here, cleaning up this kind of thing would be a piece of cake.”

“We don’t need a doctor yet. Have you noticed? It hasn’t moved at all since the beginning. It just makes simple mechanical responses and says pretty much the same things.”

Ria leaned closer again, and sure enough, the merman smiled again, repeating her previous words.

"But what is the underlying principle?"

He raised his cane and poked the other man's stomach a few times; there seemed to be some round things inside the man's belly.

Furthermore, the merman showed no intention of attacking.

“There are fish eggs in Daisy’s belly. Little Swarth told me that there are signs of life in her belly. Could it be that the fish eggs are controlling her?”

Ria found out why the other person was able to move, and her mood immediately became visibly cheerful.

"What will it do if I don't respond?"

Thinking this, Ria returned to her seat in the Bayshall Tavern, sat down unhurriedly facing the sea merman, and even had time to pour herself a drink.

"Don't be nervous at times like this; it won't do anything significant."

Ria offered a word of comfort to Steyr, whose eyes remained fixed on the merman, his muscles still appearing somewhat tense.

"Their luck isn't great today either; they're a bunch of things that should just rot on the ground."

The "they" likely refers to the unborn fish eggs. It's surprising that Steyer would make a prediction even at a time like this, and he even spoke the word "things" with a distinctive accent, which is probably a local dialect.

"Then I'll accept your kind words."

Ria picked up her glass, remained silent for a moment, and unsurprisingly saw the fishman make a new move.

It looked up at the sky, chanting some incomprehensible words. At this moment, its belly began to swell wildly, like a soft-spined sea urchin doing extreme exercise inside its abdomen. Its grayish-white belly cracked, and red stretch marks appeared. The lines became more and more numerous. Ria realized that it wanted to hatch those fish eggs here.

In the moment of crisis, Ria quickly summoned the mythical creature from her body and uttered a sentence that made the creature's feathers bristle.

"I'll use this creature to trade for the unhatched fish eggs inside you."
