Ke-style law enforcement officers
Chapter 91 The People Outside
Chapter 91 The People Outside
At this point, Milo finally figured out who those people outside, whom only Mogot could "see," were.
They must be members of the Delaman family, those who died by the axe.
But when Milo asked about the last remaining young man of the Delaman family, Mogot simply refused to answer.
Twenty-four years have passed, and he is still paying the price for what that young man did.
……
Inside the room, Mogot's voice gradually became softer, and his words became increasingly indistinct as his drunkenness intensified.
Finally, he slumped onto the table, clutching the bottle, and fell into a deep sleep.
Milo originally wanted to ask the old law enforcement officer for many more details, but the officer was already snoring and it seemed he wouldn't wake up anytime soon, so Milo had no choice but to give up.
Inside the room, the three people looked at each other in bewilderment.
Rebecca indicated to Milo that it was time for him to leave.
The group turned and walked out of the room, closing the door behind them.
...
Milo remained silent.
Judging from what I just saw and heard, Mogot isn't completely insane, but he definitely has some mental issues, otherwise he wouldn't be arguing and cursing at thin air...
"Has he always been like this? Always able to 'see' those cannibalistic killers?" Rebecca asked Walker thoughtfully.
“No, as far as I know, he only became like this in recent years. Before that, although he had always been stubborn and obsessive, he didn’t have these symptoms.” Walker shook his head.
“Symptoms,” Milo muttered.
He secretly made plans in his mind.
It's easy to see that the series of cases that occurred in 1814 left a deep enough shadow on Moggold that he still feels those "people" haunting him. The reason is that he let the young man from the Delaman family go, and he concealed this murder case.
Perhaps from Mogot's perspective, the crimes committed by the young members of the Delaman family that autumn were actually acts of justice.
Therefore, Moggot did not think he had done anything wrong. He may have broken his oath to the Judgment Scythe, but what he did was not against his conscience.
But why has he started seeing the dead members of the Dlaman family in recent years, and why is he constantly subjected to their insults and condemnations?
What caused him to start to go insane?
In recent years, has he discovered something?
For example, another disappearance in the town of Ikham, or perhaps he saw something in the wilderness.
……
The three walked along the stone streets of the residential area.
He has injuries.
Rebecca said calmly.
Milo nodded and quickly added, "And it's a new injury from the last two days. Mogot's rifle is clean, obviously it was cleaned recently, but his boots and coat, which he left in the corner, are very dirty, covered with dried mud and twigs. So the timing makes sense; he must have been 'hunting' not long ago, and the shoulder injury was most likely sustained in the wild."
“Didn’t they say there are no large wild animals in the mountains around Galid?” Rebecca turned to look at Walker.
Walker said with certainty:
"Indeed not."
"How did Mogot get his injury?" Rebecca frowned and stopped in her tracks. "No, I need to go back and check the wound."
“I saw it.” Milo called out to Rebecca, “I saw it when he came in. He didn’t have time to bandage it. The wound looks like a scratch, but it wasn’t caused by a sharp weapon. It’s a tear, maybe it was scraped by some sharp rock wall in the wilderness.”
"It's not impossible." Rebecca frowned slightly as she stared at the notebook in her palm.
“Should we keep an eye on him? I don’t think what he just did seemed fake. We might get something out of following Mogot. Of course, this is just a suggestion; he’s definitely got something wrong with his head,” Milo asked Rebecca.
“Who knows when he’ll wake up.” Rebecca shook her head, then turned to Walker: “Let’s go to Icam first. Your post is there, isn’t it? We’ll stay in town tonight.”
“Okay.” Walker glanced down at his watch. “It’s almost noon. How about we head back to the law enforcement office for a quick bite before we continue our journey?”
“Okay.” Milo patted his belly: “Goodness, I had almost forgotten about it. I’ve only eaten one fly so far today.”
The thought of the parasites living on that thing made Milo feel nauseous.
……
"By the way, Solo... no, tell us about that mining company too."
After boarding the carriage, Milo questioned Walker, the driver, about the Solomon gang. Although no clues had yet definitively linked the strange events in Icam to the Solomon gang, it was obvious even to a fool that Karl had died at their hands. From Milo's perspective, there was definitely something fishy about the Solomon and Icam. Milo's view was the clearest because he knew roughly what Karl had experienced before his death, though he couldn't openly discuss it with others.
"The mining company is located in Ickham. To be honest, I still don't know who the person in charge of the mining company is. Their management model is very strict, and the hierarchy is very clear. Not to mention me, even the miners in their company don't know the name of the person in charge..." Walker, who was driving in the front, paused halfway through his sentence, probably thinking hard for a while, and then added, "Oh right, I know the manager of the mine closest to the center of Ickham. I think his name is Marshall. I met him once. He seemed to be a very cultured person."
“Marshall,” Milo teased Rebecca, “the same name as your cat. Perhaps we could go and pay him a visit.”
It's no secret that the founders of Solomon came from the military, so it's normal and not surprising that their company has a strict management system.
"We'll see," Rebecca said noncommittally.
She did not forget Nero's instructions.
Although everything she had seen and heard since entering Galid City had been relatively normal, it was in this place that Karl died.
Rebecca reminded herself that she could not let her guard down at any time; she had to be responsible for the mission, and even more so for the safety of Milo, the newcomer.
……
When we returned to the law enforcement station, it was lunchtime.
Although the food here is far inferior to that of the Nanwei City Law Enforcement Office, it's still a free lunch, so why not take advantage of it?
In the cafeteria, Milo and Rebecca tacitly avoided the large platters of mushroom dishes; now they had something in common to avoid.
During lunch, Milo and Rebecca saw Walker pull out a rather "huge" metal lunchbox from his backpack and rummage through the various plates in the cafeteria, filling the box to the brim with bread, meat patties, bacon, fruits, and vegetables.
He stuffed the metal lunchbox, which contained enough food for about five or six people, back into his backpack before picking up the plate to serve himself some food.
"You're exploiting the organization's resources."
Milo ate very quickly. Walker had just finished serving his food and sat down when Milo had already finished his plate and started stuffing fruit into his mouth.
"The law enforcement office eats a lot of leftovers every day," Walker explained with a sheepish laugh.
"Are you taking Ikham back with you?" Milo asked, munching on an apple.
“Yes, I usually work in the town of Icam. I stay at the office during the day and stay in Icam at night.” Walker nodded. “I pack my lunch in advance so I don’t have to cook for myself in the evening.”
Milo's eyes flickered.
Walker was essentially the resident law enforcement officer of the town of Ickham.
If that's the case, then Milo can probably understand why Nero specifically asked Walker to be the contact person for this mission, but it doesn't seem to be that simple...
“You ate quite a lot tonight.” Milo tapped the heavy backpack on the table with his finger.
"I'm not the only one eating."
Walker quickly shoveled the food from his plate into his mouth, wiped his mouth a few times with a napkin, and stood up, saying:
"Do you two need to rest for a while? Or shall we get going?"
“I don’t need it,” Rebecca shook her head.
Milo took two more apples from the long table and put them in his pocket: "I don't need them either."
……
The journey from Galid city to Iqum takes more than an hour.
After leaving the city, Milo obediently put on his mask, because he was already full and didn't want to savor any more of the protein that nature had provided.
To be fair, we encountered quite a few flies and mosquitoes along the way, especially after the carriage left the city and entered the country roads, where we could always see a swarm of flies clustered together like smoke in the air.
Besides, the fields are still covered with large patches of purple copper grass flowers.
But these things were no longer surprising to Milo, who had been in Galid City for half a day. His gaze was now more focused on the low, gray-brown mountains in the distance.
Regardless of how much truth or falsehood Mogot had said, Milo was certain of one thing: deep within the desolate mountains shrouded in a light mist, lay an underground cave…
“I’ve already arranged a hotel for you two in Ickham. However, conditions in Ickham are limited. The hotel is actually a private residence and is basically not open for business, as it’s impossible to do business here. I only agreed to rent it out after specifically discussing it with the owner,” Walker explained as he drove.
"The conditions may be very basic, as these are all old rooms that have been vacant for many years, but this is the best place I could find in the town of Iqm. If you two feel uncomfortable with this place, we can go back to the city tomorrow."
“It doesn’t matter,” Milo replied simply.
Walker glanced at his watch and said with a smile, "I've never seen out-of-town law enforcement officers like you guys on any of their routine patrols to Galid before..."
"That's weird, isn't it?" Milo chuckled.
