Chapter 1648 Clues in the Deepest Part of the Northern Ice Plains (Long Chapter, Requesting Monthly Tickets)
The staff member glanced at He Ao blankly, gave him an apologetic smile, and answered the phone.
"Bob, what the hell do you do for a living?"
His headphones were external earpieces that hung on his ears; they were of poor quality and leaked sound badly. As soon as the call connected, a loud curse echoed through the empty hall.
He glanced awkwardly at He Ao, lowered his voice, and walked a little further away, repeatedly apologizing.
Even so, He Ao's hearing was still sharp enough to clearly hear the voice on the phone.
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to be the museum director. From his tirade against the staff, He Ao vaguely understood that it was the speaker of the Heikelan City Council who had just called him, woken him up from his bed, and ordered him to release the people.
He then called the staff and asked them to take Heo to see the 'special exhibition room,' which was the so-called hidden exhibition room.
However, it is clear that the curator's communication skills are not very good. What should have been a single sentence took him a full ten minutes to explain.
Moreover, it was clear that he really wanted to curse. After finishing his story, he continued to curse for several more minutes, and it seemed he had no intention of stopping.
The staff member kept nodding and apologizing, his back hunched over, sweat beading on his forehead.
Hearing this, He Ao slowly walked over.
The staff member looked at He Ao with alarm as he walked over, and was about to say something when He Ao gently raised his hand, signaling him to put the phone on speakerphone.
The staff member paused for a moment, glancing at He Ao with a hint of worry and fear, but still dared not disobey He Ao's order. He raised his hand and turned on the speakerphone.
Immediately, a series of rough but offensive insults rang out throughout the hall.
"Hello, may I come in?" He Ao asked calmly upon hearing the voice.
The insults stopped abruptly, as if someone had choked them, and the entire hall fell silent.
After a moment, the voice spoke again, this time in a gentle and slightly ingratiating tone, "Of course, you can come in. I'll have Bob open the door for you right away."
"Can I talk to him directly?" He asked slowly.
“Of course, of course,” the voice said immediately, “then I won’t bother you any longer.”
After saying that, he hung up the phone immediately, decisively and without the slightest hesitation, as if He Ao would hold him accountable if he said another word.
This even surprised He Ao.
He looked up at the staff member beside him and said slowly, "Can you take me there now?"
“Of course, of course,” the staff member nodded quickly. He looked at He Ao, paused, and said in a low voice, “Please come with me. The hidden exhibition room is underground. We have to go down through that small door over there.”
He Ao didn't say much, just nodded slightly and followed him through the hall. They soon arrived at a small door. The staff member raised his hand, unlocked the door, looked at He Ao, hesitated for a moment, and asked slowly, "Do you want to see everything?"
“Hmm,” He Ao nodded slightly, looking at him, “Is there anything I should be careful about?”
“We ordinary staff have rules and can’t go in. This is the key to the innermost room,” the staff member said, taking out a mechanical key and handing it to He Ao. Then he paused and whispered, “The further you go into the exhibition halls, the more dangerous it becomes. The things in the innermost part can even kill people. You must be careful.”
“Okay,” He Ao took the keys and nodded gently. “Thank you.”
He glanced down at the doll in his arms. The cracks on the doll had diminished considerably. He lifted his foot, passed through the open door, and descended the steps.
As He Ao appeared, the motion-sensor lights in front of him lit up, and soon a rather simple space came into He Ao's view.
The decoration of the entire space is far less beautiful than that of the ground floor. It's like a simple bare-bones room that has been roughly renovated, but there's a strange sense of mystery about it.
The spotlights hanging on the horizontal bar shone on the obsidian floor tiles, reflecting a dim glow.
Glass display cases of varying sizes emerged under the light.
At the end of the staircase, which is also the entrance to the entire hall, there is a prominent electronic tablet.
[You have entered a special exhibition room. Any exhibits in this area may carry unknown risks. Please view the exhibits with caution.]
He Ao walked past the electronic tablet and looked at the exhibits placed on the inside.
Near the entrance were some broken stones with incomplete patterns faintly engraved on them, resembling fragments of some kind of mystical magic array.
However, it is so badly damaged that its specific function cannot be identified.
Next to the stone stood a sign that read, "[Suspected ruins of a Northern Kingdom palace]"
It seems that everything displayed in this exhibition hall is genuine.
He Ao continued forward, looking at the exhibits displayed behind him.
Most of these exhibits are items with broken runes, but the items vary, including gold, mithril, and some beautiful gems.
He also saw a broken, slender gold bar inlaid with gemstones and engraved with special patterns.
Just seeing this piece of gold gives one a chilling feeling.
The display board next to it reads "[Possibly a fragment of the Queen of the North's crown]".
The display panel details the origin of the item, stating that it was unearthed by archaeologists from what is believed to be the ruins of the Heclairan Palace.
He stood beside the slender piece of gold for a moment.
Palace fragments, crown fragments, and all sorts of broken items.
These things don't look like they were left behind under normal circumstances; they look like they were dug out from the ruins of a brutal war.
The fall of the Northern Kingdom seems to have been more 'simple' than it appears.
He recalled the legend recorded in the adventure book: "The Queen of the North sacrificed herself to save the world."
If Kayla really is the legendary Queen of the North.
Given Kayla's strength, it's unlikely she wouldn't have a position in the current Federation, but until now, Heo hasn't come across any information about Kayla's 'existence'.
After a brief pause, He Ao continued forward.
There were some knight's swords and armor engraved with extraordinary patterns, but they were all damaged.
Beyond these remaining ruins and fragments, at the deepest part of the entire exhibition hall, lies a block of solid ice.
On this piece of solid ice, a camellia emblem is etched.
The display board next to it is filled with detailed accounts of the origin of this solid ice.
The solid ice was excavated from the ruins in the center of the palace. At first, researchers thought it was some kind of cold crystal, since everything in the palace had a slightly chilly feel to it.
Later tests revealed that it was pure ice.
But this piece of ice did not melt in the scorching sun and high temperatures. It had been buried in the ground for countless centuries, and when it was dug out, its edges remained sharp, showing no signs of melting.
To this day, there is no sign of the ice melting.
It was as if it had been permanently fixed in a solid state by some invisible force.
He stared at the camellia emblem on the ice block. The emblem was different from the other incomplete patterns in the exhibition hall. It was a complete camellia emblem, but it was not the same as the camellia emblem that Hickler was currently using.
Just by gazing at the emblem, faintly visible, He Ao felt a bone-chilling cold seep into his body.
The lower half of the display panel contains text detailing the research conducted by Hickland researchers on the ice block and the emblem.
They believe that the emblem may have some effect pointing to an unknown entity, or even to the Queen of the North herself. It is from the power of this 'unknown entity' that the ice has been able to remain unmelted.
However, after they used various methods to copy the emblem, no mystical phenomena appeared, as if the emblem itself had no power.
He Ao glanced again at the ice block with the camellia emblem.
Researchers believe the ice block is some kind of symbolic screen or wall decoration.
But to Heo, it looked like fragments of some kind of sled.
He looked away and gazed behind the ice block.
There was no wall there, but a heavy alloy door standing there.
The alloy door was marked in red lettering: [Dangerous exhibit area, do not open unless absolutely necessary]
He Ao stared at the red lettering, walked to the iron gate, took out the key the staff member had given him, and inserted it into the lock.
click -
With a crisp sound, the hidden mechanical structure inside the key popped up, lifting the lock cylinder of the alloy door.
click -
Immediately afterwards, He Ao turned the key, and with another soft click, the sound of the latch retracting came from inside the alloy door.
He Ao pulled slightly and opened the door.
Behind the door was an empty space, dimly lit.
At the deepest level of the space, there stands only a display case that resembles a bookshelf.
A thick, gray cloth covered the display case, concealing everything inside.
He Ao slowly walked to the display case and stared at the long gray cloth.
The long cloth had the words "[Deadly Danger! Do Not Open!]" written in red ink.
He Ao raised his hand, grasped the long cloth, and with a little force, tore the entire cloth off.
At that moment, multiple spotlights located at the top of the display case were turned on, shining in front of He Ao and illuminating the 'glass display case' in front of him.
It was a display case made entirely of glass, and its overall shape resembled a giant vertical display shelf.
Large, yellowed, old pages were fixed vertically on the display shelf, as if a book had been taken apart and its pages laid out vertically in front of He Ao.
The display panel of the glass cabinet is fixed to the outside of the glass cabinet.
The names of the exhibits inside the glass case are listed above:
Original pages from Volumes 2 and 3 of *Super Explorers: The Search for the Queen of the North*, by Viscari Drake.
This is the sequel to the adventure story that He Ao had previously read in the Bounty Hunter Shop.
He had searched for the second and third volumes online before, but had not found them. He did not expect that this thing would actually be in the museum in Cichliland, and it was the original.
Although it appears to be only a partial original.
He lowered his gaze and quickly scanned the product descriptions on the display board.
The introduction is very simple, giving a brief overview of the contents of these pages.
This series of books was indeed written by the explorer named Viscali. He had written the first volume before the explorer set off, printed many copies, and sent them to many different people in an attempt to solicit sponsorship.
In the end, he did manage to secure some sponsorships and begin his journey.
The second and third volumes were written by the explorer himself after returning from the Arctic, and contain a large number of first-hand photos he took in the Arctic.
But for some reason, he did not print these two books, nor was he willing to make them public.
The two books were not found among the explorer's belongings until after his death, when his children discovered them.
The children sold the two books as junk to a scrap dealer. The scrap dealer discovered the value of the two books, but instead of contacting the museum, he disassembled the two books into pages and sold them little by little on the black market.
Later, a business minister in the Heccleland city cabinet discovered one of the pages and realized that the book might be helpful to Heccleland's tourism industry, so he began to collect the pages.
However, due to the long time interval, these pages were disassembled and sold, ending up in the hands of many people, and many of them have been lost. So even after that Minister of Commerce, the Heiclerland City Government and the Queen's Museum have been trying their best to collect these pages, but they have not been able to collect both books completely.
However, in the end, these pages were not 'unfolded' by the museum.
They discovered that anyone who had read these pages, even just incomplete ones, was later involved in various unexpected supernatural events and ultimately met a tragic end.
In as little as two years, or as long as five years, they will inevitably die tragically due to various extraordinary events, even those who are B-level extraordinary individuals are no exception.
Of all those who have read this book, the one who lived the longest was the explorer, who was still active in historical records ten years after he wrote it.
After discovering the incident, the Hecklerland city government abandoned the collection of the pages and sealed them away.
Researchers of the occult in Hiccleland believe that these pages contain some kind of 'curse of knowledge,' that some of the contents are not meant to be known and that they will take all who know them to the grave.
Researchers speculate that the explorers may have chosen to seal the two books for similar reasons.
The pages of this book were not handled by a human; there was a robot in the room specifically responsible for organizing this exhibit.
He looked up and, sure enough, saw a robot in the corner.
Of course, every now and then, fearless researchers would still come in to look at these pages, trying to know what was behind them and understand why the explorer hadn't suffered the 'curse' of this knowledge.
However, their endings were not good.
The display board concludes by reminding the 'visitor' that if they are the first to see the content on the display board and haven't yet looked at the pages of the book, they still have time to leave; this is their 'last chance'.
He Ao withdrew his gaze from the display board, his pupils covered by specks of purple light, and looked at the pages of books inside the display case.
