Chapter 1614 Level 1 Anomaly (Seeking Monthly Tickets at the Beginning of the Month)
Chapter 1614 Level 1 Anomaly (Seeking Monthly Tickets at the Beginning of the Month)
A cold wind blew in through the window, seemingly lowering the temperature inside the SUV considerably, and the entire cabin fell into a state of silence.
"In the data you've seen, how significant was the impact of that Level 1 anomaly?" the mustachioed man behind the driver asked slowly.
“I haven’t seen all the data,” Reed said hoarsely, “but according to the association’s records, a lot of people died that time, and a third of the city where the outbreak occurred was involved.”
"The chemical plant explosion in Transdale 115 years ago?" Charn suddenly asked from the side.
“Yes.” Reed was somewhat surprised, but still answered softly.
"You're still paying attention to things that happened so long ago?" the man with the mustache next to him asked, somewhat puzzled.
“My family is from Ochre, right next to Transdale. Many of my classmates and relatives are from Transdale, and I’ve heard some news about it. Tens of thousands of people died in that disaster, and there are all sorts of speculations and strange tales online.”
Charn sighed. "And something as serious as a Level 1 anomaly can't be covered up. Following the FBI's usual practice, it will most likely be renamed some kind of accident."
“I had looked into this bombing case out of curiosity before, and found that even with my limited access, I couldn’t find any detailed information. At that time, I knew that it was probably some kind of large-scale, high-risk, supernatural event, and the bombing was just a cover-up.”
boom--
Just then, the sound of violent propellers filled the sky.
He looked up and saw a black helicopter speeding towards him.
He instinctively reached out and grasped the inside door handle of the SUV.
“They’re not here to kill us,” Reed said, slightly breaking the oppressive atmosphere in the carriage as he watched Heo’s movements. “I called them.”
He turned the steering wheel and pulled the vehicle to the side of the road.
"What are your plans?" The man with the mustache looked up at Reed.
“I need to go back again and see if I can get into the orphanage from the sky,” he turned to look at Heo. “I’ll have to trouble you to come back with me. I might not be able to resist the influence.”
“No problem,” He Ao nodded gently.
Then Reed looked at the two people in the back row, "Weiss, Charn, I need your help investigating the missing persons cases near Lorinser Street over the past five years."
“Every anomaly has an entry rule, and with an entry rule, there must be people who accidentally enter. If we can find the people who came out of the anomaly in these missing persons cases, it will greatly help our understanding of anomalies.”
"OK!" "No problem!"
The two people in the back row naturally responded.
hum-
With a whooshing sound, the helicopter hovered above them and dropped a rope ladder.
“That’s settled then,” Reed said, opening the car door and getting out. “You can drive the car away. Contact me when you have a result. We don’t have much time. Thanks for your hard work.”
He Ao also pushed open the car door and got out, taking down the large box containing the long gun from the roof.
The two quickly climbed onto the helicopter.
With the whistling wind, He Ao, standing inside the helicopter, watched the streets on both sides recede into the distance.
He turned to look at Reed beside him. "You seem a little anxious?"
"Remember our previous speculation?" Reed replied quickly, "The one about the Anomalous Cult shrinking its minions?"
“What are they waiting for?” Heo answered slowly, looking at Reed and asking in a low voice, “Do you think they are somehow ‘controlling’ this anomaly, waiting for an opportunity to ‘erupt’?”
“More or less,” Reed nodded. “It could also be a rule within the exception that requires a specific ‘triggering’ condition to take effect.”
He looked at Heo and said, "If this really is a 'Level 1 anomaly,' then no matter what, we must figure out what they're trying to do before they unleash the true power of this anomaly."
He Ao raised his head and looked ahead.
They weren't far from Lorraine Street to begin with, and the helicopter flew directly over from the sky, arriving very quickly.
From this vantage point, Heo could already see the rooftops of Lorinser Street.
The street is full of low-rise buildings. If the helicopter climbs up a little, you can see the whole neighborhood.
As Heo's gaze swept over, Reed also turned his gaze to the buildings on Lorraine Street.
"A little higher!" he shouted, turning to the helicopter pilot.
The helicopter then lifted up and continued to approach Lorraine Street, where the entire block came into view.
The helicopter did not actually approach Lorraine Street, just as Reed had initially instructed.
He worried that if he got too close, the unusual force would seriously affect his judgment.
"Is there a problem?"
He turned his gaze to He Ao.
“Look at those buildings over there, that used to be where the orphanage was.” He Ao raised his hand and pointed to several buildings in the middle of the block. “It seems like they moved each building a little bit towards the center, piecing them together to fill the entire area where the orphanage used to be.”
Reed listened to his words with some confusion, then lowered his head and carefully observed the neighborhood.
He took a long-lens camera out of the helicopter, aimed it at the location, and took several photos.
Then he turned to the helicopter pilot beside him and said, "Get out of here, increase altitude, and increase distance."
Soon, accompanied by a violent, howling wind.
The helicopter began to ascend.
Reed sat back inside the helicopter, pulled out a metal box next to Heo's rifle case, opened it, and revealed a large monitor.
He mounted the monitor on the side door of the helicopter, started it up, connected the camera, and opened the photos.
By this time, the helicopter was far enough away from Lorinser Street.
Reed turned to look at Heo and asked softly, "You just said there was a problem?"
He Ao reached out and touched the screen, discovering it was a touchscreen.
Then he zoomed in on the photo and circled a section near the center. "Here, all the buildings around here didn't originally extend into this area. I remember this area used to be roughly the orphanage area, but now you can't see the orphanage at all."
hum-
Just then, Reed's bracelet vibrated. He looked at it and then projected a photo onto the screen. "This is an aerial photograph that Riley found, taken seven years ago."
He looked at the photo on the screen, where a roughly circular building stood among the rows of buildings.
The building is surrounded by walls and electric fences. To the west is a courtyard that appears to be for outdoor activities, while to the east are rows of low-rise buildings.
The building deviates slightly from the circle drawn by He Ao, but not by much; it generally matches.
Reed placed the two photos together and said softly, "It seems that the entire orphanage has vanished."
