Chapter 4459 Dark Prelude (44)
Chapter 4459 Prelude to Darkness (Forty-Four)
The main building of the hospital was a short cross-shaped structure, and the explosion occurred on the right side. The entire right half of the hospital collapsed, and the right wall of the room they were in was also blown down.
This was clearly a calculated and precise demolition, because the room itself didn't collapse; only two walls fell, thus exposing the entire room.
The powerful blast wave slammed everyone against the wall, even Diana and Arthur were not spared. But it obviously didn't hurt them much, and they got up immediately.
Diana swung her sword at Amanda again, her attacks swift and deadly. Amanda had no time to spare, nor to think about why the explosion had suddenly occurred; she could only engage in combat with Diana once more.
Meanwhile, Arthur, who was fighting Damian and Steve, was showing signs of weakness; he clearly couldn't defeat the two. Since they were on land, his weapons were useless, and he was relying solely on the physical strength of an Atlantean to withstand the attacks. Damian's fighting skills were extremely high, and Arthur was being pushed back step by step.
"Hold on, Arthur! Hal and the others will be here soon!" Diana shouted towards Arthur.
Upon hearing this, Amanda tensed up. That Green Lantern was the toughest to deal with, so she immediately turned and yelled at Bruce, "Charge!"
After saying that, he punched Diana away and rushed towards the suite's bedroom. Damian also pushed Arthur out of the gap in the room, causing him to fall directly down. The group rushed into the ward and saw Superman sitting there, his face pale.
Amanda was shocked and couldn't help but shout, "Didn't they say he was about to die?!"
Damian scoffed dismissively, saying, "How do you know that a dying alien has to be bedridden like a human? You idiot!"
After saying that, he turned to look at Bruce, but Bruce was even more decisive, raising his gun and firing. With a "bang," a green-glowing bullet pierced Clark's body.
Clark was clearly prepared; he rolled to the side, preventing the bullet from hitting his head, and instead struck his right shoulder. Bruce immediately fired another shot, this time hitting him squarely in the chest.
Clark clearly still had energy left, and his laser swept across the room. Everyone scrambled to avoid it. Just then, with a loud "boom," the living room wall collapsed, and Hal, glowing green, floated in the air. A green energy cannonball blasted away Damian, who was approaching Clark.
Seeing the situation was bad, Amanda rolled away to avoid it. But Hal swooped down and kicked her in the butt, slamming her against the wall. Then he condensed the green light energy into a whip and lashed Steve away.
Hal swept through the crowd, providing Clark with impenetrable protection. Amanda, who had fallen from the wall, clutched her chest and coughed violently, practically gritting her teeth. So close, so very close!
If that damn green bastard hadn't come, they could have killed Superman!
Just as she got up, Victor arrived. His mechanical eyes suddenly lit up, and a laser beam pierced Amanda's chest.
Amanda let out a painful roar, but did not fall to the ground like a human. Suddenly, she let out a sharp, piercing scream, her skin began to lose its color, turning a zombie-like grayish-blue, her body covered in lividity, and her pupils glowed with a blood-red hue.
Schiller chuckled inwardly, "That's exactly what I've been waiting for!"
Amanda's hands transformed into icy claws, reaching directly for Hal. Hal dared not be careless, and in a flash, he flew into the air, only to find that Amanda followed suit.
Barry, who had just arrived, gasped. A flash of blue lightning appeared, and Barry and Hal instantly reappeared a dozen meters away.
“Something’s not right,” Hal said. “The air’s gotten cold.”
As he spoke, white mist began to rise from his mouth. Although it was winter, the hospital's heating was quite strong, and even after the explosion, the heat hadn't dissipated completely. But at this moment, the temperature had plummeted by more than ten degrees, making people shiver with cold.
Schiller sniffed lightly; he detected a putrid odor. This smell usually signified death, but it wasn't just the simple smell of decay; it carried a more ominous connotation.
At this moment, Schiller noticed that Damian's expression was also shocked, seemingly surprised by Amanda's change. The fleeting fear in his eyes did not escape Schiller's notice. Damian even took two steps back, not moving forward.
Steve stayed far away, almost jumping out through the gap next to the hospital. Only Amanda was acting crazy in the middle, chasing and scratching the people around her.
The Justice League members were extremely cautious, and no one dared to get close to her. But this couldn't continue, because Amanda was already heading towards Clark.
Clark remained motionless, still appearing weak. Diana gave Victor a wink. Victor took a deep breath, data swirling in his eyes, the power of the Mother Box slowly spreading out, displaying the world's data before him.
All of Amanda's data was recorded, though it wasn't understandable yet, but could be analyzed later. Victor first tried to change Amanda's position. A faint white light emanated from Amanda's body, and then she suddenly appeared in another location, like a piece of wallpaper peeled off a wall.
Diana breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, the Mother Box's power was effective against Amanda. This proved that the Mother Box's power level was likely equal to or higher than the power of death.
Next up was Hal, whose fist glowed with a dense green light before he slammed it into Amanda's vest. With a "bang," Amanda was sent flying, but unharmed.
"Suppress her!" Diana shouted.
Hal realized that a simple clash of forces was meaningless; he needed to invade Amanda's power. So he boldly leaned forward and hugged her from behind, and in an instant, a bright green light shone.
With a "bang," Hal flew backward. Diana immediately tensed up, but Hal waved her off and mouthed: "Success."
Sure enough, the temperature on the field rose slightly, and the putrid stench wasn't as strong. However, this didn't completely suppress Amanda, meaning that Green Lantern energy might be on par with this power.
With a "sizzle," a blue lightning bolt flashed. Amanda hadn't even reacted before she felt someone touch her shoulder. Then Barry appeared on the other side, shaking his head at the group.
Barry was unable to bring Amanda into the Speed Force, possibly because the two are incompatible, or perhaps because the Speed Force is not stronger than this death force, making it impossible to intervene.
“Almost there,” Batman’s voice came through Schiller’s phone. “Find a way to get her out of here.”
"Aren't you going to come and give it a try?" Schiller asked.
“There’s no need,” Batman said. “You might as well let your friend give it a try.”
"Right on my mind."
Schiller looked at Bruce. Bruce had already put his gun away. He glanced around and then said, "Not here. Find a way to get her out to sea."
“Victor!” Schiller called out.
Victor nodded, and his body once again emitted a white light. With a "sizzle," a sonic boom tunnel opened, and everyone, including Amanda, was transported to the nearby sea surface.
Reaching the sea meant returning to Arthur's territory. He raised his golden trident and launched the first attack, causing the sea to tremble and the waves to surge furiously.
An endless sea engulfed Amanda, completely enveloping her in a water sphere. The forces of life evolution began to take effect, and almost instantly, the coldness vanished. But the stench of decay remained, lingering without diminishing.
Suddenly, Arthur plummeted. Diana quickly flew over and caught him. He waved to Diana and said, "Indeed, the power of life can overcome the power of death. But this thing is too stubborn; I don't have that much energy."
As Arthur withdrew his power, the temperature began to drop again, and a thin layer of ice formed on the sea surface. The seawater was no longer as turbulent as before, and dead fish began to float to the surface one after another, emitting a strong, stench of decay that was terrifying.
Schiller looked at Bruce. Bruce raised his hand, and a dense dark power enveloped Amanda. But quickly, he gently shook his head and said, "No, completely incompatible. These are two different things."
"Can you suppress her?"
Bruce narrowed his eyes, seemingly adding a bit of force, then nodded and said, "Barely. But she doesn't possess primal power; if she did, it would be hard to say."
Then, the dark power dissipated. A glimmer flashed in Bruce's eyes, and for a moment, everyone seemed to vaguely see wings on his back. A beam of holy light descended upon the world, and Amanda finally let out a scream.
Bruce quickly withdrew his power. Amanda's skin, however, had already peeled off layer by layer, and the stench of decay had become even stronger, mixed with a bloody and burnt smell, making it look like a crematorium for a moment.
“Divine power can be restrained,” Bruce said. “Looks like I’ll have to be a workhorse too.”
Just then, Schiller frowned. He sensed something different again. Something seemed to surge within Amanda, an invisible force spreading out. Almost instantly, the sea turned black, and the sky dimmed.
“Stop him,” Schiller said. Everyone knew he wasn’t referring to Amanda, but to what was behind her. It seemed to want to break through the barrier and truly look directly at them.
Superman arrived late, but his attack was as swift and fierce as thunder. His laser beams were unleashed at full power, a massive beam of light crashing down on Amanda's head, the astonishing heat causing the seawater within a thousand meters to boil.
Amanda let out another scream. This time, her remaining flesh was completely peeled away, revealing her bare bones. She could no longer maintain her flying posture and plummeted into the sea.
Taking advantage of the moment, Arthur raised his trident again, and the seawater seemed to come alive, pulling her downwards. The underground, where a huge rift had been blasted by the laser, gradually closed under the pressure of the seawater, completely engulfing Amanda. The cold and decaying aura almost vanished.
"Is she dead?" Barry asked.
Arthur shook his head and said, "To be precise, she's already dead. This is just a moving corpse. We can't kill her again, we can only trap her for now."
Barry looked at Bruce again. He had clearly seen the white beam of light Bruce had summoned inflict significant damage on Amanda. Bruce shook his head and said, "Even if I get rid of this corpse, another one will crawl out."
The atmosphere became somewhat heavy, as everyone realized that the most difficult thing about this enemy was that he could not be killed.
No one knows how he resurrected the corpses, nor how many more he can resurrect. If every corpse he controls cannot be completely eliminated, the Earth will eventually be overwhelmed by these undead.
