Chapter 4458 Dark Prelude (Forty-Three)
"boom!"

"Uh!"

Gunshots and screams rang out almost simultaneously. Everyone turned to look and saw that Dr. O'De had been shot and was lying on the ground.

"Damn it!" Amanda cursed and roared, "Ignore him, keep charging in!"

The others obeyed, leaving Dr. O'Deh behind. Schiller glanced back at him; the man was clutching his abdomen, his face contorted in pain, seemingly unable to cope with the gunshot wound.

Schiller turned to look ahead again. Amanda was now in the lead, Damian a little slower, roughly the same speed as Steve. The Allens were moving at about the same pace, while Bruce was at the very back.

In that brief moment of observation, Schiller heard a "whoosh, whoosh, whoosh" sound beside him. He instinctively rolled to the side, only to hear another scream: "Ah! My leg!!!"

He turned his head and saw Mrs. Allen lying on the ground, clutching her leg and convulsing in pain. Mr. Allen rushed to pull her away, but he was also shot and fell to the ground.

Schiller secretly shook his head; what a rabble.

Amanda, true to form, remained foolish, hoping to lead such a large group of people in—a pipe dream indeed.

There were too few true professionals in this team. The Allens were both scientists and had never received any military training. Although they could handle a pistol, they weren't very accurate.

Dr. Ode was a pure scholar, and also very frail. He had barely handled a gun in his life and knew absolutely nothing about power techniques. Even though his physical strength was better than before, his mobility was still very weak.

People who have never received military training may appear to be stunned when faced with danger, but in reality, they are simply aware of the danger but do not know how to avoid it, which is why they freeze in place.

As they ran inside, the leaders crouched low, taking small, quick steps, one hand holding a gun, the other gripping the wall, as if they were in a trench. Dr. O'De and the Allens, however, stood tall and straight, like they were exercising on a treadmill, constantly swinging their arms. They ran past the two hospital windows like that.

Sure enough, he was shot down twice by the police who were aiming at him from outside the window. Fortunately, the distance was relatively far, and the police weren't aiming very accurately, so they didn't hit his head, otherwise he would have died on the spot.

Damian is probably the most professional. He's been trained by Batman, has real combat experience, and is frequently involved in urban warfare. Whether it's assault or infiltration, he's a master.

Steve was no slouch either. Don't let his status as a pilot fool you; pilots in those days were selected from ordinary soldiers. Whether as a pilot or an infantryman, he excelled, his tactical maneuvers impeccable.

The problem was that both of them were distracted. Normally, when running through trenches or when a squad is moving in urban warfare, someone needs to clear the way, someone else needs to cover the rear, or someone else needs to observe or provide escort from a favorable position.

But their minds were completely blank. Amanda yelled "Charge!" and they charged straight in, ignoring their teammates behind them. Damian, taking advantage of his small size, slipped past along the wall. Steve, though stronger, was better at trench running and disappeared in a flash. Thus, the completely inexperienced Dr. O'Dee and the Allens were unlucky enough to be taken down.

It wasn't that Amanda couldn't lead new recruits in urban warfare, but rather that she had absolutely no experience in that area. In the past, when she led troops, every agent was a seasoned veteran; even the least skilled were at least graduates of military academies, and they had practiced those tactical maneuvers countless times. If all else failed, imitating her predecessors wouldn't have led to such a rapid collapse.

Therefore, Amanda thought that leading a team in a street fighting assault would be like playing a video game; you give a signal, and everyone goes. She never imagined that ordinary people with absolutely no experience wouldn't even get past the first hurdle.

Amanda had just reached the stairwell and looked back to find that half of her squad had already been wiped out. She was furious, wanting to blame someone, but unsure who to blame. She certainly wasn't to blame herself; she couldn't very well blame the officers lying in wait for their excellent marksmanship, could she?
She gritted her teeth and cursed again, then waved her hand and shouted, "Break in from the outside of the second floor!"

That's right, the stairwell was blocked off, and the door to the second floor was locked, so there was no way they could get in. Their only option was to break the second-floor windows and break in from the outside, which is a very common method of entry.

Amanda broke the glass first, leaned out to the side, grabbed the drainpipe support upstairs with her grappling hook, jumped out, and nimbly swung the grappling hook higher as she climbed. The police below missed her.

When she reached the second-floor window, she looked back and saw that many helicopters had already surrounded her, including military attack helicopters and television helicopters. Amanda snorted coldly, "These media people are like persistent ghosts."

She rushed into the second floor, followed by Damian. But he had no intention of bothering to dodge the bullets. He simply leaped out, then spun around in mid-air, launching a powerful grappling hook that grabbed the hospital rooftop, before quickly retrieving it and instantly soaring onto the roof.

Amanda jumped in and noticed Damian hadn't followed. She turned and looked out the window, only to see Damian disappear upstairs in a flash. She yelled, "You bastard, I told you to go up to the second floor!!!"

By this time, the police surrounding them had realized what they were planning to do and began to converge on them. Steve glanced outside, shook his head, and said, "No, we can't jump now, or we'll be riddled with bullets. Let's go the other way."

Schiller and Bruce had no objections. Steve went back out of the stairwell and, before the police could catch up, ran in another direction. The two of them followed behind.

Upon reaching the stairwell on the other side of the hall, they found it blocked off as well, but there was a ventilation duct above. Steve climbed onto the handrail, used it as a stepping stone to remove the door to the ventilation duct, and then crawled inside.

Pilots, though physically strong, are generally small in stature because they are too tall or bulky to fit into the plane. So Steve squeezed in without much effort. Only Schiller and Bruce remained in the stairwell.

“What do we do now?” Bruce asked. “I knew it would be chaotic, but I didn’t expect it to be this chaotic. Am I, the key figure, just going to be abandoned like this?”

Schiller was also somewhat exasperated. While this was exactly the effect he and Batman wanted, the effect was just too good!
They kept Damian on the run all night, not just to annoy him, but because they were worried that Damian was too professional and that the raid would go too smoothly.

Damian is the most experienced and professional among them. He'll know perfectly well that Amanda's approach won't work. So if he stays rational, he'll definitely argue his case and devise a more reasonable strategy—Amanda might not be able to win against him.

If Damian were to become the team leader, the police officers and agents involved in the hospital security operation might suffer casualties, while this team could arrive before the president almost unscathed, making the rest of the plan impossible.

Conversely, if Damian's soul had been eliminated first, giving Amanda absolute control, things would have turned out like this—two players fell right at the start, the rest fought their own battles, and before even a president could be seen, the team had already been scattered.

Schiller waved to Bruce and led him upstairs. When they reached the blocked stairwell, he knocked on the door and said, "It's me, open the door."

After a while, the door slowly opened a crack. The person on the other side, seeing it was Schiller, breathed a sigh of relief, opened the door to let them in, and then said, "That woman has already rushed to the door. The kid is rushing down from the top. The rest of the people are nowhere to be found."

"It's alright. Don't engage them in a firefight, and relax your defenses a little. It's best to avoid any casualties, otherwise the president will come after me."

"Don't worry, I've already told them. Just fire the guns without showing yourselves. Run if you can, hide if you can. Nothing will happen."

"According to the plan, you should retreat as soon as I give the signal. Don't forget."

"Do not worry."

Schiller nodded, and openly led Bruce, who was carrying a large gun, toward the entrance of the presidential ward.

After turning a corner, they finally arrived at the ward door. Gunshots rang out from the opposite corridor; Amanda was clearly about to break through the encirclement. At that moment, Steve also walked around the corner, and Damian pried open the elevator door and jumped out from the top of the car.

The group finally met up at the entrance. But they knew a fierce battle was yet to come, because the presidential ward was not the kind of ordinary ward where you could see people as soon as you opened the door; it was a luxury suite, and there was bound to be a much stronger security force inside.

Amanda came running up, panting. Schiller looked her over and saw no blood on her, which meant that although the fight sounded intense, it was mostly just for show.

Schiller glanced at his phone, frowned, stopped Amanda from rushing inside, and said, "Wait, the Justice League might be inside."

"What? Weren't they said they hadn't arrived yet?"

"We're a bit late, or rather, they're a bit faster. It seems the president is really important to them, otherwise they wouldn't have rushed back to protect him so quickly. We need to hurry, in case Batman arrives..."

Amanda's face also showed a solemn expression. Batman, when he made a move, instantly killed Steppenwolf; anyone who witnessed it would feel uneasy. Amanda took a deep breath and pushed open the door to the hospital room.

He expected there to be guards at the entrance, but when he pushed the door open, there was no one there. Schiller lowered his voice and said, "With the Justice League here, there's no need for so many ordinary people to stand guard."

Amanda nodded. This was a good thing, allowing him to quickly infiltrate to the nearest point, as long as the distance was close enough…

She turned to Bruce and said, "Damian and I will create an opportunity for you to fire later. Remember, it has to be a success, not a failure."

Bruce nodded and picked up his gun. The group walked inside together. Just as they passed the screen and entered the living room, they saw Wonder Woman and the others. Diana was startled and immediately grabbed her shield and Vulcan sword, while Arthur assumed a fighting stance.

Seeing the two of them, Amanda breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, these two were among the easiest to deal with in the Justice League. She charged straight at Diana, and Schiller raised an eyebrow.

Diana raised her shield to meet the attack. Unaware of the danger, she only made a token attempt to block, only to find herself being pushed back.

"Fine, fine, you're not pretending anymore, are you?" Diana sneered inwardly and immediately raised her sword to retaliate. But the moment she raised her hand, she was entangled by Damian's grappling hook. Arthur also stepped forward and engaged them in battle.

Schiller watched from the sidelines. No wonder these guys dared to charge at the Justice League; they really did have superpowers. It's just that they hadn't fully revealed them yet; it seemed they were just incredibly strong.

So, while they were locked in fierce combat, Schiller retreated to a corner and pressed a button on his phone. A short while later, with a deafening roar, half of the hospital collapsed.
