Chapter 4284 Heroes Strike! (Sixteen)

Most people have never had the experience of co-controlling a body with another person. Or rather, they may have had their bodies controlled by someone else, but they would never cooperate in controlling a body with another person. Schiller, or rather, most symbiote hosts, are experts in this area.

What might seem counterintuitive is that the symbiote hosts neither use the symbiote as a tool nor completely surrender their bodies to it. Their cooperative model is somewhat similar to that of "Cells at Work!" or "Overcooked!". Only, the cooking takes place on their own bodies.

Or, it could be likened to your heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys suddenly gaining sentience. They can communicate with you, and you can control them to perform actions that humans cannot. For example, you can have the symbiote adjust your heart rate, accelerate your blood circulation, adjust brain oxygen supply, make your skin more radiant, or help you grow more hair.

It sounds impressive, but it's not actually that simple. For example, hair regrowth requires nutrients, and if the host doesn't get enough, the symbiote can't do it because it would be harmful to the host. Most symbiotes won't sacrifice their own energy for the host, except for those that are extremely attached.

To use a more business analogy, the host is like Party A, and the symbiote is like Party B. The host is responsible for making demands, and the symbiote is responsible for carrying them out, but if the demands are unreasonable, they can only refuse.

If the host does not give any commands, the symbiote will basically be on standby, and the host will normally control the body itself.

In this situation, both the host and the symbiote have the authority to manipulate the body, which can easily lead to a conflict between their commands.

The host feels they should raise their arm, but the symbiote disagrees. In most cases, the host's command prevails. However, if it might endanger the host's life, the symbiote will forcibly press the arm down. The symbiote is perfectly capable of doing so.

There is an even better scenario: in extremely critical moments, the host and the symbiote each take charge of a portion of the limb movement. The host controls the torso's center of gravity, while the symbiote controls the limbs; or the host controls the lower limbs for running, while the symbiote controls the upper limbs for more complex movements.

This has obvious benefits: the symbiote and the host can perform more complex actions than ordinary people, and their reactions are also faster.

Of course, this is under the condition that the cooperation is good. But the symbiote and the host usually cooperate very well. If the cooperation is not good, the symbiote will not choose that host.

Take Venom and Stark, for example. These two just couldn't get along. Venom would try to drag Stark to the convenience store to buy junk food, but Stark would refuse. It was basically a power struggle between them. Although Stark eventually won, it was only a narrow victory.

Schiller and Gray Mist clearly had a good understanding of each other. Although Gray Mist didn't need to do much most of the time, Schiller still needed to use it to dodge attacks. And dodging required the two of them to cooperate.

Because of the existence of the Mind Tower, Gray Mist isn't on call 24/7; he spends most of his time inside. Therefore, if he needs to be used, Schiller has to summon him, and Gray Mist needs to immediately understand Schiller's intentions through his mind. So far, the two have worked together very well, without any mishaps.

Venom and Eddie are similar, except Venom doesn't reside in Eddie's subconscious. They both exist in his conscious mind and can even argue. Previously, Venom was only used in fights, and his body was mostly controlled by Venom. However, since Eddie learned the art of "typing," Eddie is basically responsible for thinking, while Venom handles typing. Their output in just a few hours is enough to ruin the reputations of every politician in the federal government.

Greedy watched the others stagger around, making no attempt to hide his schadenfreude, and even started circling around them.

"Tsk tsk tsk, isn't that Superman? Why is he lying in the snow? Isn't he cold? Get up and warm up..."

"Captain America, what are you doing lying next to him? Come on, get up! The fight isn't over yet!"

"Madam, I know you used to study acrobatics, but aren't your hands cold when you're on all fours like that?"

"I feel like someone's missing. To be precise, a mouse is missing. Where did he go?"

"Shut up, Schiller!" Stark roared through Steve's body. "Who told you to team up with your own symbiote?! That's cheating!!"

“Well, there’s nothing I can do about it,” Greed said, spreading his hands. “My symbiote can move independently. So the two of us can team up. Instead of cursing me, you should curse the administrator; he’s the one who suddenly changed the game mode.”

Stark certainly wanted to curse the administrator too, but Steve quickly advised him, "There's no use in being verbally aggressive now. You need to get used to my body quickly, otherwise how are we going to fight?"

"Bullshit! I wanted to curse you too! Why can I hear the sound of blood flowing in the blood vessels of my brain? Why do I feel like I can see my own eyeballs???"

"Uh, you're exaggerating a bit, Tony. I'm a cyborg, not an alien. Who can see their own eyeballs?"

"But...but...why do I feel like I'm seeing things from a fisheye perspective? Which level is this mode in?"

"Fisheye view? I don't think so." Steve was a little confused.

"Absolutely! Your field of vision is as wide as a fucking movie theater screen, and you're telling me you didn't use a fisheye lens???"

"Huh? Isn't this your field of vision?" Steve thought for a moment and said, "It's been too long since the time when I was an ordinary person. I've forgotten what the field of vision of an ordinary person looks like. But this is probably because my eyes are more sensitive to light than others, and can absorb more light, so I can see farther."

"You're really illiterate! High light sensitivity should mean night vision, what does that have to do with the width of your field of vision? Besides, don't you think you can see a bit too many colors? Don't you find it dazzling?"

"Yes, but I think it's a good change. It allows me to paint with richer colors. I can hold exhibitions on Broadway, not just because I'm Captain America. They really like my paintings and call me a leading figure in modern impressionism."

"Can't these modes be turned off? I can't see anything!"

"No. And this is just a static image. When we move, you'll find that time seems to slow down. This is because my dynamic vision is far superior to that of ordinary people. Only in this way can I avoid falling flat on my face because I can't see the road clearly while running at high speed."

“Then you take over the vision system, and I’ll take care of the others.”

"That won't work either. You can't control your motor nerves at all. Jumping three meters high is not my limit."

Stark sighed heavily, knowing Steve was right. When he controlled his limbs just now, he had only used the force of normal walking to take a step forward, and he had jumped three meters high. If he were to actually control his body, Captain America would become Tigger.

But actually, he's not the worst off. The worst off is Lord Batman.

Allowing a human to control a Kryptonian's body is no different from forcing them to confront the Old Gods. The Kryptonians' entire sensory system constantly bombards them with vast amounts of information. This is akin to the mental pollution of being exposed to the Old Gods, capable of completely overwhelming an ordinary person's brain and driving them insane.

The moment Lord Batman took over Lord Superman's brain control, in addition to a massive influx of information, countless pop-up windows appeared in front of him. Control over the body was even broken down to the individual muscle fibers.

But for Kryptonians, this is normal, because they have super brains and can handle more things than humans. Or rather, while the human brain's fuzzy algorithms are so powerful, they are still underdeveloped, mainly due to insufficient energy. If they could truly supplement their energy through the yellow sun like the Kryptonians, then perhaps one day they could develop the ability to subtly sense every part of their own body and perform micro-manipulation.

Batman's brain development is already ahead of many ordinary people, but it's still not enough compared to a super brain. Fortunately, it's not like Batman's brain was put into Superman's body; he still uses a matching super brain, so he just needs to adapt to the operating method of this program.

Lord Batman quickly dealt with the pop-up window in front of him. Then, Lord Superman was heard ask in a low voice beside him, "What are you doing?"

"...Try to control your body."

"Yes, I know, but why are you dealing with those things?"

Lord Batman responded with a question mark through his consciousness.

“Look at the bottom left corner,” said Lord Superman.

Lord Batman's thoughts were drawn to the lower left corner, where he saw a blue button.

“Press it,” said Lord Superman.

Lord Batman didn't know what he was going to do, but he pressed the button anyway. And then, for a moment, the whole world became quiet.

Without those crazy pop-up windows, without the extremely complicated operation mode, without the massive amount of information, my mind went completely blank.

"What did you do?" Lord Batman asked. "Why did you erase your brain?"

“That’s the button to activate the simplified mode,” Lord Superman replied. “I don’t know why, but when your consciousness came in, the full operating system was activated. But I don’t know how to use that thing; I only know how to use this.”

Lord Batman was speechless for a moment.

“That’s not an operating system,” Lord Superman tried to explain. “You can think of it as a system used to develop operating systems, a system for editing operating systems. We don’t usually use this.”

"Why?" Lord Batman asked.

"Why?" Lord Superman was equally puzzled. He said, "The more advanced a race is, the simpler it is to control its body. Humans are so complicated because they are not fully evolved, like a rudimentary old computer program. We are already at the stage of strong artificial intelligence. Even if we only rely on instinct, we can perfectly control this body without having to exert effort."

"...Is this why you're not using your super brain?"

"My brain is only a super brain compared to humans, but it is just as advanced as my body, so it's not a matter of being super or not."

"I'm afraid it's not that simple."

"Are you Kryptonian, or am I Kryptonian???"

"You are. But you can't deny that you haven't been to school. I mean, you didn't receive a complete education on Krypton. I know there are many things ingrained in your genes, and some of them should be preserved in the spaceship you built. But I don't think that can replace a complete higher education on your home planet. I believe that education must have included teaching you how to use more complex development systems, but you didn't learn that, so you don't."

"Heh." Lord Superman scoffed, then said, "As if you could. Batman, the high-achieving student?"

"I can."

"Um???"
