Chapter 4268 Island Holiday (Part 2)
"You mean you want to fight again?" Schiller asked while drinking his soy milk.
“That’s right. Before, we always felt like we won unfairly. We didn’t expect that it wasn’t us who beat Batman, but Constantine.” Stark shook his head and said, “I guess Batman is also very dissatisfied. Although he has also taken a lot of benefits, he must be furious to have run into such a scoundrel as Constantine.”
“I also think we can have another one,” Reed said, “but let’s not have this kind of freedom war. Too many elements mixed in isn’t a good thing. Although the reality may be more complicated than the exercise, aren’t we supposed to be doing specialized training now? Some limitations are best.”
"So what form do you think would be better?" Schiller asked.
Wanda thought for a moment and then said, "Do you remember the superhero game we played?"
You mean that card game?
"I think that format is good; it's a great way to exercise your intelligence."
“But then it would all come down to strategy,” Steve said, frowning. “A contest of brute force won’t work, and a contest of intelligence won’t work either. Isn’t there a way to combine them in a balanced way?”
After thinking for a moment, Schiller said, "I'll go and discuss it with them; perhaps we can develop a new model."
The day passed quickly. Palm trees swayed in the sunset. They finished dinner in the Blues hour, pitched their tents on the beach, and slept inside.
The next morning, Schiller pulled out a large amount of food supplies and borrowed the kitchen of a noodle shop to make breakfast. After eating, they prepared to go for a walk in the jungle. After fully equipping the children, the group set off towards the mountain in the middle of the island.
Although it's an artificial island, the jungle is remarkably well-made. There's a trail leading to the summit; while it lacks some challenge, it's perfect for family hikes.
The mountain wasn't high; it only took a little over an hour to climb to the top. Standing atop it, you could see almost the entire island. The sky was a pure, clear blue, and the seawater beneath the white sand had a jelly-like green hue. A warm breeze carried a faint, salty scent.
At noon that day, the absentees finally arrived. Strange arrived first, followed by Loki. Strange sighed and said, "I saw the diving video you posted. Good heavens, how could you dare to go so deep?"
“Just going to take a look, you’re not really expecting a giant octopus there, are you?” Schiller shrugged. “They said they want to fight another round…”
Strange didn't understand at first, but after realizing what he meant, he widened his eyes and said, "How long has it been? Are these guys crazy? Even if they are, Batman isn't. How can they come here every day for these kinds of exercises?"
“It’s not the kind of freedom war we had before,” Schiller said, shaking his head. “They want to establish more balanced rules, to conduct a game-like battle under certain restrictions.”
Strange frowned and said, "First of all, how can this be balanced? Can you lower Batman's IQ? Or restrict others from using superpowers?"
“It definitely can’t be that kind of restriction. I’m still thinking about it.” Before Schiller could finish speaking, Peter leaned in and said, “I have a good idea, would you like to hear it, Doctor?”
"What idea?"
“We can launch a brand new PVP mode in the Battle Arena, and then each person can form a team to participate.”
"That's what I was thinking too, but how should the combat be conducted within the game? Like on New Earth before, should we restrict the battles to a single area?"
"No, I think that's too much freedom, and restricting areas wouldn't be fair to some people. We can play strategy games."
"Strategy?"
"Yes, you've played chess, right? Turn these pieces into superheroes, with some fighting on the board and others directing from behind. If necessary, they can switch positions, and then add some other conditions, wouldn't that work?"
"Good heavens," Schiller thought, "a chess game with moving pieces? Isn't that just Wizards Chess? But it actually sounds quite promising. Because, you could combine Peter and Wanda's suggestions and create a superhero strategy game."
Superheroes' movement and combat are limited by points, but their abilities aren't weakened; instead, they're made into skills or cards. Which skill to use each turn, how to position oneself, and how to coordinate teamwork all heavily rely on teamwork. Direct confrontations can also lead to real-time battles, which also provides opportunities to hone combat skills.
Moreover, Peter's suggestion of one person fighting in front while another directs from behind is even more interesting. Schiller can already imagine that if this model were implemented, it would quickly shift from criticizing opponents to criticizing teammates.
If a role-switching mechanism were added, it would be even more chaotic. Schiller didn't even want to imagine what kind of mess Superman would cause if he commanded Batman. What if it were Reed and Stark?
Furthermore, superheroes are categorized into different types, including intelligence-based, naturally gifted, mutant, magical, and technologically advanced. We could easily add attributes and faction synergies to these types, making teamwork even more crucial.
Of course, if you add a terrain system, a resource system, and a certain amount of PVE system, you can play this game without making a sound.
Moreover, this model can also sell season passes, which initially only unlock the regular maps. If you want to play more maps, you have to buy a season pass. If you add a map lottery system, you can earn even more.
After the battle realm stabilized, revenue actually declined somewhat. Although the universe administrators didn't need the resources submitted by the superheroes, recycling these resources effectively curbed the increase in cosmic entropy, facilitating their balancing adjustments. Therefore, they didn't want revenue to decrease. Naturally, they needed to stimulate consumption.
While the PVE mode is decent, PVP has always been the main source of spending money, especially since this mode can hone some players' command skills, and those with spare cash will definitely not miss it.
However, Schiller wasn't in a hurry to implement it; he simply sent his ideas to Lucifer. After all, no matter how good the idea was, it still needed to be programmatically feasible. The biggest problem was limiting the abilities of extremely powerful superhumans; otherwise, if they got desperate and broke through the restrictions, they might just wipe everyone out.
Having come up with an idea, Schiller discussed and refined it with others. Adding more elements wasn't necessarily better; too many elements could make it difficult to manage. Therefore, they first listed the possibilities and then refined them.
“If we’re going to add real-time combat, we can’t turn abilities into skills, otherwise it’ll become turn-based. It’s best to keep the basic attack and one ability, and turn the rest into cards. That would be fairer,” Stark said.
"Even basic attacks can have different effects depending on the characteristics of different superheroes," Peter said, clearly very experienced. "For example, Iron Man can have two states: one without armor and one with armor..."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Stark said. "Do you think I can take a hit from someone without wearing a mech?"
“You might have less health, but not enough to be killed in one hit,” Peter said. “We can’t design instant-kill skills, otherwise it won’t be balanced. Those with weak physical defenses can be designed to be relatively fragile, and their cards can be stronger. And those with stronger physical defenses need to have restrictions on their cards.”
“What if you’re strong in both physique and ability?” Wanda asked.
"Then limit their movement or the number of attacks, or use some negative status effects to counter them," Peter said.
“I don’t think we should strive for balance,” Reed suggested. “Superheroes have different abilities, and their skill levels vary. If we restrict them all to the same level, we won’t achieve any training effect. Even if Stark is stupid, he wouldn’t go into battle without his suit, would he?”
“I think we can do it this way,” Schiller said. “We shouldn’t allow two too strong people to team up. Ideally, one should be strong and the other should be intelligent, with a forced switch at regular intervals. That way, even if one person is very strong, they will stumble when the other person comes on.”
This suggestion was accepted by most people. Natasha then asked, "Then how do we determine who is stronger and who is weaker?"
“I think everyone will do it spontaneously,” Peter said. “This game mode requires a leader. If it’s two physically strong but mentally weak people, they absolutely cannot win the game. So there must be an intellectual type. And to compensate for the intellectual type’s lack of physical strength, then naturally we need to pick someone who is good at fighting.”
"What if he's both smart and good at fighting?"
“I don’t think he’ll participate in this game,” Schiller said. “The rewards won’t be very high. He’s already all-around capable, so there’s no need for him to waste his time. Most people participate in this game to train their teammates and gather intelligence.”
“That’s right. These kinds of strategic games are the best way to see a person’s decision-making tendencies and are excellent samples for behavioral analysis. Batman will definitely not miss it,” Jarvis said. “Moreover, I believe he also intends to train the Justice League’s leadership skills. After all, through the previous war, he should have realized that multiverse wars are not something that can be handled by fighting alone, and improving the level of collective combat is of paramount importance.”
“Okay, so who will you be teaming up with?” Schiller asked.
“The two of us together,” Wanda said, pointing to Jarvis. “He’ll be in charge of the strategy, and I’ll be in charge of the fighting. That’s the best way.”
“As for me… although I think I’m the kind of all-around guy you guys talk about, if I really can’t put on my armor in the early game, then I have to find a defensive hero to help me absorb the early damage. I’ll choose Steve.” Stark snapped his fingers and said.
“Then I’ll go with Bucky,” Natasha said. “In this game, two people with balanced abilities are stronger than two people with one strength who is weak in one area.”
Schiller considered who he would choose, but after much thought, he realized he really didn't need to participate in this game. All of Schiller's personality traits were the same person, making it pointless to team up with them. And teaming up with anyone else seemed equally meaningless.
Suddenly, a name flashed through Schiller's mind: his combat abilities definitely needed some serious training.
Just then, Lucifer replied to him, saying, "It's technically feasible. Come over here now, and we'll discuss the specific rules."
"No problem, coming right away."
