Chapter 4269 Heroes Strike! (Part 1)

"Welcome to Battle Realm - New Earth! The brand-new player-versus-player mode 'Heroic Assault' has officially begun. System matching in progress... Matchmaking complete. Heroes, grab your weapons and prepare for this ultimate showdown!"

Above a blue planet, several figures gradually appeared inside a space capsule. With a flash of light, the space capsule shot towards Earth like a shooting star.

On the vast polar ice sheet, wisps of white mist rise from the ice. Penguins, belly to belly, slide down the iceberg one by one. A seal flips over and leaps out of an ice hole, slapping its tail. Like a meteorite, a silver space capsule crashes onto the Antarctic ice. After a hissing sound of deflation, a figure emerges from it.

"Hello, welcome to the Hero Attack matchmaking mode. Next, I will introduce the basic gameplay of this mode to you."

In Versus mode, your main enemies will be other players. Harsh natural conditions and wild beasts may also be your greatest adversaries. The presence of mysterious creatures will also pose a significant threat. You must carefully navigate the dangers posed by the environment while dealing with player attacks.

This battle mode adopts a turn-based strategy format. When you look down at your feet, you will see your current grid. Your action point is located in the upper right corner of your field of vision; you can only leave your current grid by spending action points. Performing normal attacks and using skill cards both require action points. Please allocate your action points wisely to avoid being unable to perform the actions you want due to insufficient action points.

The battlefield features a variety of terrains. You must avoid obstacles, but you can also use them to cause trouble for your opponents. Additionally, some of your actions may trigger random events. There will be no warning before an event occurs, so be prepared.

Your teammates are providing remote support from the nearest research station. Please press your headset and listen to their voices. Good teamwork is essential for your success.

"Zzzzz—" A noise came through the earpiece. Then, a female voice appeared in the earpiece: "Bruce, are you alright? I saw your spacecraft land. I'm already in position at the research station."

"I'm fine, Selena. It's really cold in here. I knew those supervisors were up to no good."

"Did you hear the rules that were just read out? I can see your surroundings from all angles through the monitor screen. However, I haven't spotted your opponents yet; they should be nearby."

"Oh, really? How far can you see?"

“Let me count… 16 squares in all directions. There’s an iceberg 6 squares to your left. Other than that, there are no other obstacles.”

Bruce glanced down at his feet. As his gaze focused on the ice, blue light began to appear. He noticed a wall of blue light about 5 meters away from him, extending to the same distance in all directions. In other words, each grid was approximately 100 square meters.

Compared to his size, 100 square meters is quite large. However, if a battle were to take place, the combined area of both sides would only be 200 square meters. That's not even enough space to maneuver. It seems this instance has very strict limitations.

Moreover, when Bruce looked up into the distance, his field of vision was only about three squares, meaning his visibility was only about 30 to 40 meters. Only Selena, who could see the monitoring screens inside the research station, could see what was happening more than 100 meters away.

"Which way should I go, darling?" Bruce looked around. Due to the limited field of vision, he couldn't even see the iceberg that Selena had mentioned, so he naturally had no way of determining the direction to go.

“I suggest you walk straight ahead,” Selena said. “I can see the temperature of each square here, and your area is in the cold zone. It will be a little warmer if you walk forward.”

Bruce glanced up at his action points again. He had five points in total. He tried to move forward one square to see how many points it would cost, but he couldn't break through the blue wall.

“Oh, wait, I have to do it.” Selena’s voice came through his earpiece. “Look ahead, there’s an arrow. Walk in that direction and you shouldn’t get stopped.”

Bruce looked up and noticed that the fog ahead had thinned slightly. He saw an arrow about five squares away, marking the next square. Only then did the blue wall disappear. But as soon as Bruce stepped onto the new square, the wall reappeared, proving that there was no free way to backtrack.

One action point is spent on each square. Bruce moved five squares and ran out of action points. But neither of them knew how to replenish their action points.

After a few dozen seconds, Selena said, "I'm seeing a countdown here, it should be the end of the round countdown. This proves that all the players are operating in real time. There might still be some players who haven't finished, we'll have to wait for them."

“You’re amazing, Selena. This round depends on you.” Bruce sat on the ground with his hands in his jacket pockets and said, “I don’t think it’s that easy. This round is just a tutorial. I’m afraid we’ll soon be facing some tough opponents.”

"Alright, don't try to slack off by praising me. It's not that complicated yet, I can barely manage. But I probably won't be able to later."

Looking at the countdown with over 20 seconds left on the screen, Selena scratched her hair in frustration and said, "Isn't the first round just walking? Why is it so slow? Can't you hurry up?"

"So what are we supposed to do? Why don't we end the turn?" A yellow figure hopped and skipped across the ice. Pikachu adjusted its goggles and asked.

“You don’t understand, it’s a tactic,” Peter replied. “I call it the ‘burning rope tactic.’ You leave one action point each round, but you don’t use it to end the action until the countdown ends. This stretches each round to its maximum, until they lose patience.”

“You’re definitely going to get beaten up,” Pikachu said. “Considering that I’m the one standing on the battlefield right now, do you want me to get ganged up on?”

“This tactic can’t be used all the time. Right now, no one’s running into anyone, and nobody knows who’s burning the rope, so we can stall for time like this. If we do run into each other, we can’t use this tactic,” Peter said. “Also, I’ve never seen you dressed before; it’s ridiculous!”

Pikachu looked down at his body. Only his head was sticking out, and he was wearing a winter coat that looked like it was made for him, along with a full set of boots, gloves, and a scarf.

The problem is, he's a neckless creature, looking almost like the seals nearby. Not only does he have no neck, but he also has no waist. This means the clothes wrapped around him have turned him into a ball. If he hadn't been careful and tripped, he might already be rolling into the Pacific Ocean.

"Who do you think we'll run into?" Pikachu asked again. "I have a feeling it'll be Batman. I've been wanting to electrocute him for ages."

After saying that, he stretched his tail hard, but no electric current appeared as usual. Peter said, "I also think there's Batman, but whether you can actually shock him depends on how this system is designed."

"Didn't you design this?"

“I only offered some suggestions, and it seems they’ve all come true. But you know, Dr. Schiller won’t let us off so easily.”

"I heard he participated too. Who do you think he'll team up with? He can't possibly team up with himself again, can he?"

“That’s hard to say,” Peter shook his head and said. “I don’t think so. Doctors have changed a lot lately. Nobody can guess what’s going on.”

Peter looked down at the screen. To his left, in his field of vision, was an iceberg. They hadn't moved at all this round in order to use the "burn the rope" tactic, so they were some distance from the iceberg, but he instinctively felt there must be enemies on the other side.

His speculation was only partially correct. There was indeed something on the other side of the iceberg, but it couldn't be considered a person. Because it was a cloud of gray fog.

At this moment, the fog lingered among piles of winter clothes, scarves, and gloves stacked on the ground, looking like a scene from a horror movie. It was as if someone had suddenly turned into formless fog, and all their clothes had fallen to the ground.

But he was actually innocent, because he didn't actually have a human form. The system was just forcibly generating clothes for him. Gray Mist sighed and said, "Maybe I should put on the clothes. Otherwise, they might think I killed the players and stole their clothes, wouldn't that be terrifying?"

"The problem is, you'd be even scarier dressed like this," Greed said in the earpiece. "Imagine seeing a clothed person walking towards you from afar, only to find they're just a cloud of fog up close. That's more like a horror movie, isn't it?"

"Sigh, I told you I didn't want to come, but you insisted. I wanted to go to Hawaii with the detectives to see if we saw Stitch."

"You really should work on your combat skills," Greed said irritably. "You can't just resort to gua sha every time you fight, can you? You're supposed to be an Outer God, after all."

“But I am an Outer God capable of taking care of myself, not one of those idiots.” The gray mist churned, then said, “I have never mentally corrupted humanity. I am a good Outer God.”

“Wait, it looks like someone’s coming,” Greed said. “You were right. The label says Batman. But we don’t know which Batman it is.”

"Could it be an arrogant student? I heard he participated too."

"It shouldn't be. Bruce isn't Batman anymore. He specifically went to Lucifer to correct his title, and now the Fighting World won't label him as Batman. This seems more like the traditional kind... Oh ho, you're doomed."

"what happened?"

"Lord Batman. The Batman who is the Lord of Justice and Superman."

"Then you're doomed. Because I'm up against Lord Superman Batman, but when the switch happens, you'll be up against Lord Superman."

"Oh, damn it, I forgot about that. But I don't think we necessarily have to replace everyone at the same time. Maybe I can choose not to go out."

“Avoidance is not the way to solve problems.”

"Then why didn't you want to come before?"

“I see them,” said Lord Batman. “I’ve never heard of a hero named Gray Mist… God! What is that?!”

Meanwhile, the Lord Superman in the research station immediately switched to a first-person perspective, and after seeing the gray mist floating on a pile of clothes, a whole bunch of horror movie scenes immediately popped into his head.

"Don't get me wrong!" Gray Mist shouted, "I'm a player! I'm not a monster, don't hit me!"

"Can't you use your brain?" Greed said into his earpiece. "I've already said this is a player-versus-player game. He'll only attack you if you say you're a player!"
