The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.

Chapter 535 Shocks Renault for a Whole Year

Four days passed quickly. Omsk's knights searched along the Swiftflow River, trying to find the orc army that might have "sneaked across." However, what Omsk didn't know was that an orc army had set off directly from Mordor, crossed the entire Lomanian Plain, and crossed the Swiftflow River hundreds of kilometers away from Lulong, while they had only just set out...

As a result of a series of unforeseen events, the first Battle of the North began in a rather haphazard and chaotic manner...

"Hmm~" Renault stretched leisurely in front of the morning sun after waking up. After vigorously moving his arms and legs, he revealed a happy smile: "Thank the Dragon God! Yesterday was another peaceful day. I hope today will be the same!"

"It seems His Majesty Omske and His Highness's Knights have done a good job; they have successfully intercepted the orc army! We haven't seen any of the orc vanguard scouts yet!" Luke Leopold laughed.

“Hey! General, brother, coffee? Tea? Or honey water?” Merck Leopold held up a glass of beverage and waved it at the two of them.

"Coffee with sugar, please!" Renault smiled and nodded.

"Orange juice!" Luke Leopold rolled his eyes at his younger brother, jokingly teasing him.

“Hey! Last year’s frozen oranges! Freshly squeezed juice!” As if by magic, Merck Leopold pulled a glass bottle from the bamboo basket he was carrying. The bright orange juice inside seemed to be mocking Luke Leopold’s intelligence.

"Thank you!" Luke Leopold accepted it, his lips twitching.

"By the way! Is the magical communication working properly? Has Stream City given any instructions?" Renault asked instinctively.

"No, everything is normal, everyone seems fine!" Luke looked up, ready to down his refreshing orange juice.

"Splat!" A crisp sound rang out, and Luke Leopold stood there stunned, the expensive orange juice already spilled all over the floor with the flying glass bottle.

"Brother, is your hand cramping? Look at how wasteful this is, it's a huge amount of money..." Then Merck Leopold was also petrified on the city wall.

"What kind of comedy are you two putting on? Hehehe!" Renault patted the two of them on the shoulder.

"What are you looking at? Let me see!" Renault looked at the two people who were standing there in a daze and poked his head out from between them.

"..." Renault felt his eyes sting after taking one look, rubbed them, and then looked again...

"Enemy attack!!!!!" A bloodcurdling scream, like a pig being slaughtered, echoed across half of the city wall. The soldiers who heard it looked up in surprise at the southern city wall.

"Enemy attack!!!" Luke Leopold and Merck Leopold belatedly screamed.

"Dragon God!" As more and more patrolling soldiers peeked out and looked southwest, they saw a thick war cloud drifting in from the distant horizon! This was a sign of the orc army's attack, since sunlight would weaken their fighting power, while the war cloud formed by black magic would block out the sun for them.

Like a surging black tide, an overwhelming horde of black orcs occupied the southern horizon.

"I'm going to kill Omske! This is his ***! How could he not react when the enemy was at the gates? Why? Why did I only find out when the orcs were almost at my doorstep! Where is the Knights? Even if they're all dead, there shouldn't be not a single messenger left alive!" Renault's mouth was like a torrent of water, hurling insults at Omske.

Unbeknownst to him, Omske was still searching south for possible crossing points for the orcs, completely unaware that a force of orcs from Mordor had slipped through the cracks... well, to be precise, they had swaggered in.

"Prepare for battle! Sound the alarm! The orcs are coming!" Renault roared. "Wake all soldiers! Prepare for battle!" Luke Leopold sprinted across the city walls.

"Get your gear on! Fight! Fight! The king is right behind us! The road ahead is clear! Defend the kingdom! Defend our homeland! Men of Lagrange! Hold the fortress to the death!" Luke Leopold's voice echoed throughout the fortress.

"Quick! Report to Swiftstream City! Orcs are at the city gates! The Knights and His Majesty Omske are nowhere to be found!" Renault gritted his teeth and reported Omske. He hadn't really expected Omske to stop the orcs, but at least let him know if something was wrong! Letting the orcs appear right under his nose without a word... who could stand that?
"Yes!" a Battanian archer quickly accepted the order.

……

"It's terrible, General! The communication array has collapsed due to years of disrepair!" The soldier who had just left returned not long after.

"...Damn it!" After a moment of silence, Renault went berserk, punching and kicking the wall in front of him, not caring that his hands were covered in blood.

"Where's the defensive magic circle!" Renault suddenly remembered something and grabbed the soldier, roaring.

"Um... the switch is working properly, it's still running..." the soldier said weakly.

"Phew~" Releasing his grip on the soldier's hand, Renault let out a long sigh. After all, no one had paid much attention to the communication array before, since there wasn't much communication between the two places, and military orders were delivered through the dragon riders. However, the defensive shield had been carefully inspected and repaired by Renault and Yunfeng, and now the repaired shield was finally ready to play its role! After all, the shield couldn't be used when the orcs first came here, but now... although the original mythical-level defensive magic array could now only function as an epic-level defensive magic array, it was still sufficient.

"Can you tell how many people there are?" Luke asked his younger brother beside him.

“The number has exceeded 10,000… I estimate it will be 20,000!” Merck said somewhat pessimistically.

“More than that…” Luke glanced at it quickly and agreed with Merck’s judgment.

“This isn’t right! Where did Dolgodo get so many soldiers? Are their orc clans all pigs? How can they reproduce so prolifically?” Merck gritted his teeth, feeling a sense of shattered reality.

“These aren’t the orcs of Dolgodo… Hah! They really think highly of me!” Renault shook his head with a wry smile, pointing to the orcs’ filthy banner, whose color was indistinguishable.

“That’s the banner of the Orc clan of Mordor! We’ve been targeted by the Dark Lord…” Renault chuckled and turned to leave the battlements.

"..." Luke and Merck looked at each other, their eyes filled with surprise and shock.

"Guys! Make sure you have enough arrows! There won't be anyone to supply you with arrows when the fighting starts!" Renault instructed the Battanian archers on each level as he moved through the arrow towers.

Apart from the eight Meteorite Dragon Towers, the entire Lulong Fortress has a hundred heavy crossbow towers, each of which is garrisoned by eight Battanian archers. These crossbow towers, arranged in rows of varying heights, are equipped with catapults, heavy crossbows, oil sprayers, and more. With sufficient manpower, these crossbow towers are generally operational. As for the eight Meteorite Dragon Crossbow Towers in the middle, they are garrisoned by all the Elnino Rangers. These rangers are already skilled in dragon slaying, and with the addition of the Meteorite Dragon Towers, their fun is doubled!
"Order the infantry into the hiding places! Leave enough reserves! We must prepare for a protracted war!" Luke commanded.

"The tower's defenders will be divided into two groups! They will take turns occupying it! Although we will lose half of our firepower, at least we will have the resources to wage a protracted war against them!"

"Damn! This has shocked me for a whole year!" Renault, busy giving orders, couldn't help but complain. This ridiculous situation would make even the Emperor cry!
